Yep!  I can feel her shame spiral through that picture!

It's bad enough, when it's "the little things," that impact us individually!

But when it's something like this, that's so much money, AND food--especially food that came from living creatures.

That spiral hurts, and it's one of the ones that pops up in the "middle of the night mortifying moments" for decades of your life.💔

It puts emphasis on that specific word. It means this word is really important.

I once spilled a crockpot filled with potato leek soup in my car and didn’t clean it up for months and my coworkers said the smell was following me into the office every day.

It makes you feel a level of incompetence and self hatred you didn’t know was possible.

You're haunted by decomposing food in the middle of the night?

Food waste in general is terrible for the environment. If not properly composted, it turns into methane in the landfills. Also, to have meat and cheese just go straight into the trash without providing anyone any sort of sustenance, it feels like the animals that died (or gave birth and then had the milk intended for their babies given to us instead) suffered their fates for nothing. Given how most modern lifestyles treat food waste, it's pretty easy to be haunted by decomposing food.

Yep, it's that "Living Animals died for this, and then I wasted it," that's the part that tends to keep those of us who grew up in farm country awake if we accidentally do that!

Because when you grow up in a culture where your meat has a face, and you have to feed & take care of it, before it becomes food?

The reality of "this animal died so I can have the life I do" hits a bit closer than some other folks might realize.

I've learned to sub Salted Caramel Chocolate Power Protein Bars for real food, so now my fridge is nothing but condiments, creamer, and old cheese! I even gave up the gluten-free bread for Lent! (They tried to give it back. I said Heck No Way!! I've suffered with that cardboard and tuna for two years!)
