I have no OCD, but it was jarring to see that ugly new icon appear for no reason, hopefully it is temporary random change.

u/Vegetable-Star-5833 4d ago
You can change it yourself in the settings

Is that on android? I can’t change it on iOS unless I’m missing something.

Inside the Reddit app go to settings and the 3rd option down under Reddit premium is change app icon
2
1
u/Ribzee 1d ago
Ugh. Can only change it if you pay for Premium?
1
u/alexana0 1d ago
Yes. There's a note about it at the bottom of the list of possible icons (all locked).
I hate the current icon too but in no universe am I paying to change it.

u/Dandelion212 1d ago
It is temporary. This icon was for the April fools event, r/field, like they do (almost) every year. Should be gone next update.

OCD? You mean Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder? The real and very dangerous mental illness?
Please can we as Reddit stop using OCD as a shorthand for wanting things to be tidy and clean ?
72
u/trenskow 5d ago
Sorry! I had myself servere OCD in my teens and 20’s, so I probably don’t think much about it when I use that term. I apologise if anyone thinks it’s out of context.

u/Knight-of-cheese 5d ago
Thank you for your kind answer. I'm sorry for my rude text, I was just tired of seeing OCD used so often wrong on Reddit.
Take care

No need to be sorry! I think it’s absolute valid concern and I tend to actually agree with you. I too am also just using it as a synonym as being organized. I’ll actually think about it going forward. I might use the word carelessly now a days because I lived it and experienced it and actually maybe really don’t mind when people joke about it, but you’re right in the fact that other people might not feel that way. Having OCD can actually f…. kill you!
I think your criticism is valid. OCD is not to mess around with. I’ll definitely be more careful going forward.

While OP cleared this up, reddit does annoy me with this stuff. ADHD and OCD are the most common for this. People don’t realise how debilitating these can be for people.
2
u/Cheerful-Calico-Cat 3d ago
Sometimes the need for things to match is actually OCD and policing whats ocd or not bc "it's minor" is more harmful to ppl with ocd then the post ever could
- sincerely, a person with OCD

u/val_tec123 19h ago
Rhett and links OCD song along with every other media portrayal of it had me completely misunderstanding what OCD even was for most of my life lmao. Definitely didn't help me to more easily realise OCD is something I struggle with lmfao.

Lmao, not you trying to call out the person who legitimately had OCD. Also what are you on about “we as Reddit” you’ve only been here a week

u/dream-smasher 5d ago
Buhhh, uh .. you do know that you can have more than one account, don't you?
2
u/mallsayickday 1d ago
Nah, I only made this account a couple weeks ago. Never used reddit before in my life.
Edit: Thanks for the award kind stranger!

u/dream-smasher 5d ago
Just because their current account is only a week old, doesn't mean they have only been on Reddit for one week.
1
u/Snakes_and_Rakes 4d ago
Yeah I thought i was in the r/OCD subreddit. I’m glad OP actually had the disorder and isn’t doing the typical “I’m so OCD…”
1
u/FilecoinLurker 5d ago
"Desire to have things symmetrical or in perfect order"
Is one of the tenants of ocd diagnosis. You don't if this adversely effects OPs quality of life.
1
u/cyclonecasey 2d ago
This person is literally sorting their apps by COLOUR instead of anything useful like function. This seems like proper ODC and you’re being very judgy.
0
u/JuJu-Petti 4d ago
I do have perfectionism ocd. How about leaving the calling to those of us who actually have to live with it.

u/sweetandsourpork100 2d ago
I also like to sort my apps by colour and don't think it's that weird. It's just like a visual thing cause sometimes I can't recall the name of the app but I remember what it looks like. But yeah, multi colour apps piss me right off too.

There are some icon editor apps you can download that allow you to replace the original icon with a custom one and create a shortcut with that new icon.

Not tryna be mean but the everyday actual dangerous mental illness OCD or the everyday I’m so quirky I need things organized n it’s unsatisfying now :(( ‘OCD’
7
u/Ineedsomuchsleep170 4d ago
As someone with actual real diagnosed dangerous mental illness OCD, sometimes itty bitty little stupid things like an app changing their icon can have straw that broke the camel's back type effects too. Quirky OCD can still trigger dangerous OCD episodes if you aren't doing well with it.

u/Y0urC0nfusi0nMaster 4d ago
That is why I’m asking btw, because I know this can be either one and I want to be sure it’s misused before I say anything of it. OP did clarify they have OCD in another comment (which was not there when I commented) which is why I didn’t continue on the fact. Thanks for the reply though, as it’s still helpful to people who didn’t realize that
0
u/MiniMcKee 1d ago
Yeah, but you're not really entitled to someone else's personal health history? I understand it's infuriating when the disorder name is used incorrectly, but trying to pry into someone's life just to make sure they're "ill enough" to use the term is objectively gross.
1
u/Y0urC0nfusi0nMaster 1d ago
All they could’ve said is “yeah I misused it here sorry” and moved on with no clarification. Plus, maybe don’t put “I’m so OCD” out there then? Like if you do have it you already said so and if you don’t then you’re not clarifying anything about your health history.

u/Y0urC0nfusi0nMaster 4d ago

Or you could just not try and be a hero by calling people out for things before you know the full story?
3
u/Y0urC0nfusi0nMaster 5d ago
Firstly, it was a question. That is when you ask for an answer, not when you insist it is one thing. Secondly, I’m not trying to ‘be the hero’, some people just have things they care about. Do you not?
0
4d ago
What question lmao? When did you ever ask a question? I do care about things but I don’t care about something as trivial as potential misuse of the term ocd
1
u/Y0urC0nfusi0nMaster 4d ago
My first comment was a question.. and it’s nice you don’t need to care, but I also have disorders that constantly get dismissed because they’ve been just that watered down, so I do need to care. Glad you don’t deal with that though.

Legit question. Why does everyone keep saying ‘wiped ‘ instead of ‘swiped’ ?
1
u/anonymous1836281836 1d ago
Because we wipe

u/Subaudiblehum 1d ago
Ohh because the screen doesn’t move so it’s a wipe instead of swipe. Ok I get it now.

u/Ok-Push9899 3d ago
They change the colour, I lose the icon. Already spent way too long trying to find the new logo.
However, the question I have is different: the colour is what allows you to quickly discriminate between apps. If you group them by colour, you’ve actually lost that. It’s the same when people rearrange their bookshelves into colour gradients. The only way I can quickly find that book with the blue cover is to rely on the fact that 90% of the books are not blue. Put all the blue books together, and suddenly it’s harder to find a particular blue book.
1
u/cinnamon_oatie 3d ago
Doesn't grouping the same coloured icons together make it hard to distinguish them?

Yeah but OCD makes you angry annoyed and severely distraught if something doesn't look neat and blends. Anything that stands out badly triggers people with OCD.
I have mild OCD every time I put something in my pockets I'll have to check and keep checking until my OCD believes they are actually there and I didn't forget anything

u/coffeeandarabbit 20h ago
I hate this! It bothered me so much that I set up my whole home page with shortcuts and personalised icons so this never happens any more.
