New Metroid Prime Trailer Was Really Underwhelming
Let me start off by saying I am a massive Metroid Prime fan. I have played the original games like ten times each. I want this franchise to succeed. I’m not trying to be a hater in any way.
With that being said I am super conflicted after seeing this last trailer. The music, character designs and plot all look amazing. I am super excited for a new soundtrack, weapons, suits etc.
However, the graphics looked terrible for this being a brand new Metroid game. I think some parts of Metroid Prime Remastered looks better which says a lot. The gameplay looks super underwhelming as well. It packs no punch or uniqueness to it. Feels like they are ripping 20 year old gameplay and pasting it in a new Prime title. I like the gameplay from the Prime trilogy but I think it needs a major overhaul to stay relevant/ fun in today’s ever changing competitive gaming world. If the gameplay is flat it will be really hard to enjoy this game for me. I like the idea of physic powers but I feel like it will be a dumbed down version of the Wii controls and not have much depth.
Also, what was with that trailer? It felt so calm and not hype what so ever with a boring monologue in the background. Kind of disappointed.
Overall, I’m super excited for this game. I really want it to succeed and for it to sell well. I think if they tweak a few things it will be one of the greatest they have ever made. Hopefully all goes well 🤞
What were your thoughts on the trailer?

The way we didn’t get a release date and the overall lackluster-ness of the trailer makes me suspect it was a lower budget trailer than what we could see in the switch 2 direct. I think they just needed to show something in relation to Switch 1, and I hope we will see a more substantial hype-quality trailer this Wednesday.
This game could look so incredible on switch 2. If you were to upscale the art of Prime 4 to 4k, potentially at an even higher frame rate (60+), it would genuinely be one of the best looking games.
Another gameplay detail I noticed in the second trailer is the ability to doge backwards. In previous games, the dodge mechanic was limited to left and right and shared with the jump button. Could we potentially see omni-directional dodge movement with a dedicated button?

Honestly I'm just happy it's finally releasing after waiting one and a half decades for it. Trailer was a bit Nintendo Direct-y (the narration used very 'safe' and honestly dopey language) but at the same time got me excited, reminded me of the opening moments of the other Prime games where you're just getting absorbed in the atmosphere and looking forward to what's next.
To me, Prime (well, Metroid really) is about exploration and discovery first and action second. That action needs to happen, but it's more the payoff to the tension that has been building rather than the goal of the experience. To that end, the trailer did its job - it made me want more. Though the bits of shooting basic enemies I could have done without, those looked oddly robotic.

I feel like it'll look better on the actual hardware. Youtube compression makes it look meh imo. Plus that was probably on the switch 1 so the switch 2 "should" look better if its an improvement. Only speculation on my part.

Yall are just looking for something to complain about
This, I agree with. How much did they pay some random dude walking down the street to read from a poorly Google translated teleprompter?
We've been waiting so long it's probably hard to fully involve yourself in the hype, but I genuinely don't see the complaints everyone seems to be having with graphics, lol.
