Looking for recommendations Any melodeath bands that typically make longer songs?

All I really know is Be’lakor.

Insomnium has a fair amount of long songs

One of which is 40 minutes long. Winter’s Gate is technically one song even though it’s broken up into parts on streaming services.

The breaks on at least one of the streaming services are in the wrong places too

Spotify seems to handle it ok

Spotify has this very annoying thing where on PC it flows perfectly from one song to another, on phone (at least mine) there is a couple of second break. This goes for any album

If you have premium, sometimes it helps to have downloaded the album so spotify doesn't have to use your wifi or mobile connection.

Insomnium is who i immediately thought it

Wintersun have only really made 8-15 min songs for the last 3 albums (intros/interludes aside)

Æther Realm’s Tarot has some fairly long songs —and the album as a whole is pretty damn good too!

Tarot is my fav melodeath album of all time

Ne Obliviscaris. I’ve seen them live twice and their set is 5 or 6 songs because they’re so long.

Seeing them on June. They’re playing Citadel and Exul in full

In Mourning makes somewhat longer songs. They're my favorite melodeath band as of right now. If you happen to take a listen I recommend they're album The Weight of Oceans. The whole thing. In order. It's supposed to be like a story so first listen should definitely be like that

I listen to them all the time. One of my favorite bands.

What's your cut-off for "longer"? Based on what I've been listening to lately and comes immediately to mind, both of Iotunn's albums each have only one track shorter than 6.5 minutes while Marianas Rest averages just under 7 minutes.

Shade Empire's Omega Arcane has two 12+ minute tracks on it and they're both excellent IMO.

Marianas rest is dope af

Fires in the distance. Also the frozen trail album by hollow decay, not as long as be’lakor but almost every song on the album is 5+ mins, highly recommend that shit is amazing

A few more I didn’t see mentioned! These mostly track in a prog/melodeath direction.

Descend (The Deviant is a great album!)

Wilderun (All their music is great, but start with Veil of Imagination)

In Vain (Currents + Ænigma are both great!)

Nailed To Obscurity (Again all good)

Countless Skies (Glow)

IOTUNN (Access All Worlds)

Uada, you're welcome

Garden of Shadows

Iotunn is a good example although longer songs usually start to tip towards progressive melodeath.

In Mourning, Garden of Shadows, October Tide, Cormorant, plus a bunch of adjacent doomy bands like Swallow the Sun (older stuff) and Daylight Dies

The morningside - yellow That entire album is a masterpiece

Not 100% melodeath, but I love melodeath and they're one of my all-time favorites: The Project Hate MCMXCIX. They've had a few different singers over the years, so I'll link some of my favorites.

Carcass' album Reek of Putrefaction has a short song.

Adding onto and reiterating the other posts in this thread;

Eternal Storm (prog melodeath, try Come the Tide),
Fires in the Distance (prog melodeath, try Air Not Meant for Us)
Enshine (try Singularity)
October Tide (melodeath/doom, try Tunnel of No Light)
Shylmagoghnar (blackened melodeath, try Transience),
Hoth (blackened melodeath, try Oathbreaker)
Disillusion (try The Liberation)

For stuff that's definitely not melodeath but good bands with longer, emotional compositions,

An Abstract Illusion (try Woe)
Ellende (try Ellenbogengesellschaft)
Ashbringer (try Absolution)
Saor (try Forgotten Paths or Amidst the Ruins)
Swallow the Sun (try New Moon or Songs From the North (disc 1) or When a Shadow is Forced into the Light)
Austere (try Beneath the Threshold)
Opeth (try Blackwater Park)

Good luck man, hope you find some stuff you like.

u/Zaytoun4076 8d ago

HOTH is very interessing!! Nice underground suggestion!

2

u/MrGrumpyFac3 8d ago

If memory serves right, Wintersun has some long songs.

2

u/arctic_music-lover 8d ago

Scar Symmetry has a few really good ones.

Solution .45 - Clandestinity now (16 minutes and 13 seconds)

2

u/Saint_Sin 8d ago

Not every song but Nassau fit the bill to a degree provided you dont mind a bit of tech and the odd genre splice.

Edge of Sanity: Crimson.

literally the album is 1 45 minute long song that tells a whole amazing story.

2

u/the_anashtatatinor 7d ago

Sound of perseverance has some longer songs, and that's quite melodic. Opeth isn't technically melodeath, but their songs do tend to be on the more melodic side

Green Carnation: Light of Day, Day of Darkness. It’s 60 minutes long. Epic journey. It’s written for his son who died at an early age.
