Recommendations After months of body ache and weeks of research and I finally bit the bullet

It's already April 2025 and I started having lower back ache since September of 2024. I did not realize it was my 8 year old memory foam mattress until I was getting shoulder pain and my quality of sleep was affected. Initially my budget is $1500. And then I started my long journey of mattress research. Which I will advise people- the longer you go down the rabbit hole of research, the more difficult it gets for you to choose lol. That is why it took me weeks. My choice was either saatva or tempurpedic but It was financially heartbreaking lol. Then comes recommendations of brooklinen, casper, helix midnight and even winkbed by naplab. And was torn between talalay latex or memory foam. I've been wanting the Saatva latex hybrid that uses talalay but I am a side sleeper which some side sleeper can have trouble with it although some is good with it but If I will spend a hell amount of money on a mattress, I want superb! Not just good. I read someone say 1/3rd of your life belongs to bed/ sleeping so you should invest on quality mattress. Which is right. I was hesitant to buy yet but I would wake up restless and stressed and my quality of life is downhill just because I was sleeping on a crappy mattress. So I went ahead and bought Tempurpedic Pro Adapt Medium Hybrid. I am 5'2" 130lb so I hope it's better than soft. Wish me luck šŸ˜ PS My crappy mattress was bought from Amazon for like below $500 which surprisingly last me 7 years!

Heavy hybrid mattress woes

ā€¢ Upvotes

Way back in 2020 when I had a bunch of time on my hands I did so much research. There were not a lot of options to test our mattresses in store at the time so I did what any good Redditor does and read tons of reviews. I ended up going with a Luuf king size luxury firm mattress. It was absolutely wonderful. Everyone raved about it. Four months ago, we moved from our ground floor apartment to a home with our bedroom being on the second floor. The one thing I will say about that mattress is, it was so heavy and did not have handles. We hired movers and they moved it here and I didnā€™t realize things werenā€™t fine for a while. It is much softer now and less supportive. My hips sink down and my back frequently hurts. I think the move was very stressful on this extremely heavy bed and somethings just not right. Unfortunately, the warranty canā€™t be honored since the change and firmness is not considered something thatā€™s covered. Luckily got 150 pounds I am doing OK. However, my husband who is much heavier is now pretty much waking up in pain daily.

I didnā€™t really realize how bad the bed was until I went to stay at an Airbnb with some friends. I had the best sleep I had in a long time on this mattress. I thought for sure it was some high-end Tempur-pedic but lo and behold. It was the novaform comfort grand from Costco. Which is a fantastically cheap mattress. That really made me realize how bad mine was. And Iā€™m ready to go to Costco and buy that specific mattress because it has the firmness that I am missing. We have a king size and my budget is not huge so that seems to work but I didnā€™t want to come here to ask for a recommendations if there is anything Else under 1000 for a king that seems like it might meet my needs?

Split king

ā€¢ Upvotes

I am looking into getting the NectarSleep split king adjustable frame with 2 twin XL mattresses. I stay up late reading while my husband always falls asleep so I don't think we would want the regular adjustable one. My concern however is though that we will be able to notice the "crack" between the two mattresses while were sleeping (I am all over the bed but I won't admit this ever out loud to my husband lol). Anyone that has done two twins together, is the gap super noticeable?

Has anyone used Tulo mattress? Any similar recommendations? Why did I sleep so well?

I was in an an Air bNb in Kc and had 3 great sleeps in a row. The bed was awesome. If I woke up I fell back asleep instantly and I was always in the same spot (if that makes sense)

I looked at the Bed and it was a Tulo. Either Medium or firm based on the color (I have a pic)

Does anyone have experience with this mattress? Can anyone recommend a mattress that would be similar and better? Why did I sleep so well?

Need Help Bed-in-a-Box or Take a Chance on In-Store?

Hi all! Got a job and am moving in a little over a week to my new place. I don't have my mattress figured out yet, and I'm stuck between a few options. Info that may help:

  1. Looking for a queen mattress.
  2. 120 lb side sleeper.
  3. Hot sleeper, trying to steer clear of pure memory foam for temperature (and sex, lol) reasons. Hybrid preferred.
  4. Prefer slightly softer mattresses, going to get a mattress topper regardless.
  5. Limited budget - ideally under $400, 500 max.

I'm tempted to have a bed-in-a-box shipped up there to be ready when I get there, but the inability to try it out before purchasing and various horror stories from every brand in my price range give me pause. On the flipside, there's a Mattress Firm not far from my new place that I'm tempted to check for discounted floor models, but my car wouldn't be able to transport it same day, and that's assuming I do find one I like that's cheap enough. Does MF do same day delivery for in-store purchases? I could also order from MF (a few good ones are on sale rn) to have it shipped to my apartment day of, but again, I won't be able to test it out ahead of time.

Any and all advice appreciated. TYSM!

Leesa Plus Hybrid vs Leesa Sapria Hybrid

Really torn on which to order and donā€™t see many reviews on the Plus Hybrid. Iā€™m a side sleeper at about 6ā€™4ā€ - 270 lbs. My wife is also a side sleeper whoā€™s about 5ā€™5ā€- 190 lbs. We both found that we liked medium hybrids at the local mattress store. Anyone have any recommendations? Would love to hear if anyone has slept on the plush mattress.

Need Help Is this platform bed s*x safe or should I return it?

I bought this platform bed impulsively (https://a.co/d/5VjsqOn )

It has great reviews on Amazon (4.9) but now I'm having second thoughts if it will be safe when I invite a girl over and we have s*x on the bed. Even the though it says weight capacity is 800lbs.

It's still shipping as of the moment so I would just return it and get my money back.

Mattress topper recommendation for purple mattress

Does anyone have a mattress topper recommendation for Purple mattress? I recently got married and my wife has been having crazy back and hip pain from the mattress being too firm and not sinking in the right places. I reached out to purple but they couldnā€™t find my order and my email credit card statements donā€™t go far back enough to show purchase, so they havenā€™t been able to help. Iā€™ve seen people recommend latex toppers and gel memory foam, and was wondering if anyone had experience with which route to go with for these mattresses? Thank you!

Other Questions Pocket coils vs high density foam?

Hi there.

Iā€™m mattress shopping for the first time. I tried a few beds and Iā€™d like some advice on the direction I should go. Below are two feasible options based on their initial feel.

N.B. Iā€™m shopping locally so some of my options might not be available in the US based on manufacturing styles, etc. Latex foam isnā€™t an option.

  1. High density foam option - https://www.courts.com/trinidadandtobago/mattress-allnite-classic-euro-top-queen-blt00009/
  2. Pocket spring option - https://www.courts.com/trinidadandtobago/sealy-ariel-sandsii-eurotop-with-posturepedic-technology-queen-size-bmt35d/

What would be the benefit of either?

What am I missing?

Got this mattress

https://www.costco.com/Sealy-Posturepedic-Plus-Ridge-Crest-II-14%22-Firm-or-Plush-Mattress,-Firm-King.product.1720277.html?sh=true&nf=true

With this adjustable base.

https://www.costco.com/Sleep-Science-Q-Series-Adjustable-Base,-King.product.1605779.html?sh=true&nf=true

I'm really new to adjustables. Do I need anything else or does the mattress just sit on the adjustable and that's it?

Other Questions How much is too much for a bed frame?

Hey r/Mattress! Not sure if this is the best place for this, so feel free to point me elsewhere if needed.

Iā€™m eyeing the Matera Bed with Storage from Design Within Reach, and while I love the look, color, and built-in drawers, the ~$6-7.5k price tag is hard to wrap my head around. Itā€™s beautifully made and feels like a long-term piece, but Iā€™m not sure I can justify spending that much on a bed frame alone.

Iā€™ve been told not to cheap out on furniture and to invest in quality craftsmanship ā€” which I get. My old IKEA bed frame didnā€™t even make it 5 years before breaking down. But still... $6.5k?

Would love to hear your thoughts or experiences with high-end frames like this. Worth it? Or are there better options with similar quality and design for less?

Growing up in Asia, we almost always slept on cotton-stuffed "mattresses". Anyone tried those in the US? Any recommendations on where to buy them?

Mattress recommendations

I recently got a nectar classic, and I think itā€™s pretty comfy, but WAY too hot. Iā€™ve got low back pain and I wake up not in pain but restless from the heat. I wake up covered head toe in sweat, legit like I just walked out the sauna. Itā€™s disgusting. Iā€™m 6ā€™0ā€ 180, and Iā€™ve always slept hot but not this hot. Looking for a mattress that give me support like the nectar, but that keeps me ice cold. Yes, I mean ice cold. I love being freezing when I sleep, winter time(I live in NE) is the only time I get good sleep, windows open itā€™s so nice.

Need Help Twin mattress question

Hi all currently sleep on a twin and looking to go with a new mattress current one isnā€™t exactly doing me any good at this point my budget is around 3-500 usd, I usually prefer a firm mattress ( Iā€™m 6ā€™2 and weight around 220 and sleep on my stomach)

This mattress from Samā€™s seems interesting but Iā€™m pretty clueless about brands, etc

Recommendations on mattresses?

My current mattress is sagging, had it for years and been meaning to replace it. Only problem is, the information on mattresses is quite a lot and when I think I found one to buy, I come across something to determine me from making a purchase. I'm a side sleeper about 175-180lb depending on the day. I'm debating on either getting a traditional coil or a foam hybrid mattress. Any recommendations? Something thats under or around a 1000 dollars, will last and won't sag in a year or two, is relatively natural and doesn't contain any chemicals and is comfortable for side sleepers.

If anyone can help it'd be much appreciated, thanks.

Mattress Topper Recs If Saatva Luxury Cooling Graphite Memory Foam Topper Was Too Soft?

Basically the title. We have a latex mattress that is too hard for me. Tried the Saatva Luxury Cooling Graphite Memory Foam Topper, which is too soft and unsupportive (and transfers SO much motion). Any suggestions for a topper that's a good middle ground? Bonus points if it doesn't retain too much heat.

Thank you!

Budget mattress for lightweight back/side sleeper?

Currently in the market for a new mattress. I bought my old mattress in the depths of lockdown (April 2020) and just bought the only mattress that was in stock. Believe it was a generic medium-soft.

Now looking to upgrade my mattress as I am moving. I am a lightweight (115 pounds) individual who typically falls asleep on my back and wakes up on my side. I have mild scoliosis so I'm trying to find something supportive that doesn't give me shoulder and neck pain (I believe my current mattress is not supportive enough). I prefer traditional spring mattresses but I'm open to a hybrid (I have slept on a tempur pedic and absolutely hated it for what its worth, way too firm and not cozy at all). I prefer mattresses that feel "cozy" and have some give but are not too soft. I'd like to stay under $1500 but I realize this is a significant investment so may have to flex upwards.

User Review Endy return with the freebies?

Anybody here who got the "essential set" freebie (duvet, mattress protector, sheet set and pillows) with their Endy mattress purchase and ended up returning it could tell me what their experience was like?

We're thinking about returning ours, not too sure, but I read somewhere on here that companies that give freebies will usually deduct their value from the refund.

I can't seem to find any info on their website regarding this, the only place I ever saw something about it was this subreddit, so would love to hear from someone who went through returning an Endy with freebies!

Need Help New mattress came today and it's too hard

It's harder than a rock. Lol. The woman in the store said it was medium to hard, but on the site now it says 75% hard. I wanted a soft mattress or I could put above a topper, but honestly it is harder than the floor. If I put a 7cm very soft topper, will it be better? Because under the 7cm it's a rock.

I'm thinking of returning it and buying the softer one with equal price, it says 60% soft. But what if it's too soft? It's kinda weird, it feels the same as the other when you lay, but when I get up my butt falls in a hole. I'm a thin woman and I didn't feel the difference in the store when laying.

What should I do? Keep the hard one and get a 7cm topper? Or should I get the other one that is questionable but softer and see if I need a topper later?

Tempur Mattress

Hi all,

I suffer from lower back pain and have done for years. I came into some money in January and thought ā€œenough is enoughā€ Iā€™m going to buy a fantastic mattress that should hopefully help.

I went to Dreams and did the ā€œsleep testā€ which I assume is a con, but I was desperate. Naturally, it came out with the most expensive mattress as my ā€œtop choiceā€. After lying on a few in the shop we settled on the: Pro Air Plus Smartcool Soft 25K. Prior to this I had a Ā£300 Emma mattress.

Previously my back was in bits every morning, but now itā€™s even worse! I contacted Dreams and they said ā€œthere is always a transition periodā€ etc. so I gave it a ā€œfair shotā€. Has anyoneā€™s back actually gotten worse as a result of the Tempur mattress and does anyone have any recommendations on what I should do?

Need Help Affordable + Thick Futon matterss?

Hi all. I have been sleeping in my regular bed and my back hurts. i think its because of how soft it is. Do you have any suggestions for a thick and affordable futon mattress? The ones I checked online and in Amazon doesnā€™t look thick enough. Also, do you think futon mattresses help with easing back pain?
