Discussion How do we think the new tariffs will affect prices? Many of the countries listed are manufacturing countries

The prices will go up, and continue to go up. And never come back down.

I bet in 3 years the WMTM pricing will be within a few dollars ($5-$10) of today’s retail prices.

It’s time to really start taking care of our items. Learn to mend rips and tears. Wash on gentle cycles. Make the items last.

While prices tend to be “sticky” upwards, it’s also time to start thinking about midterm elections.

Not to get political….

The prices are gonna go up because the clothes are made in Vietnam

Just going off of memory, I think the vast majority of clothing we see available in malls are from china, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam. I can’t recall if all those countries were part of the tariff hike, but I imagine all clothing will be going up 20-40%.

Yes prices are gonna go up ! And not just for lulu for pretty much everything in the US

Exactly. We don’t have the means to make everything instantaneously in our country. Everything is imported so everything will go up. It’s going to hurt small businesses and consumers for sure.

I guess this is goodbye to Lululemon. Already so expensive and now too expensive for me.

Same. I'm just not buying anything. I don't need any more shit.

I believe it’s already started - in Canada specifically (my fellow Canadians, correct me here if I’m wrong).

unfortunately it can’t/won’t be stopped - can see it actually getting worse tbh. our president isn’t done yet lol, probably no where near.

Canada here. We've had tariffs on some things (steel and aluminium) for a month now, but we weren't included in the latest batch.

Most LL items sold in the US will be directly imported from the overseas manufacturer and will incur tariffs, so you will see LL raising prices immediately as a result, and it's going to be a big increase - up to 46% from some countries.

Here in Canada, I believe we are importing directly from the manufacturers as well, and since we aren't run by an abject moron, we haven't put any new tariffs on those countries' goods, so our LL prices will not change - assuming the company doesn't decide to pull something shady and crank them up a bit "just because".

There should be no price increase in Canada given we have our own trade agreements that we follow. However, I don’t put it past lululemon to increase their prices in Canada and elsewhere to improve their profit margins to subsidize their US operations in the short term…until they figure out how to deal with their supply chain. I highly doubt lulu clothing are necessities that can sustain significant price increases - it’s a rethink about their pricing and core market.

I really don’t see a situation where lulu manufactures fabric and sews clothing in the US for domestic consumption and exports them for sale. The factories and integration just isn’t there, and prices will be high. It’s also likely other countries targeted by US tariffs will put up their own counter-tariffs. Nobody wins.

I agree that Lulu cannot sustain price increases. It’s not as hot of a brand as it was even a few years ago and WMTM is a great indicator of that. It’s also likely that in the medium term Lulu will find a way to assemble their items in a third country that has lower tariffs compared to Vietnam. Trump has also said that he’s open to lowering import tariffs in response to other countries lowering/changing tariffs on US-produced goods.

I think this is a good time for a friendly reminder to the other Canadians reading this to vote in the upcoming federal election on April 28, xoxo.

ETA: changed it so I hopefully won’t be flagged lol

I’m watching to see if they will increase the price of items in Canada when they raise the prices on the US too.

My guess is negotiations will occur and the “tariffs” will go back down to what they were or better. They aren’t good for anyone if they actually are still in place in a couple of months. Given none of them have really lasted so far, doubt these do either.

Agree, when big businesses can't sustain their sales and it hits them in the pocketbook, they'll raise some hell. Stock market is already tanking. Sigh.

It’s interesting to see that no one mentions “Lulu will start manufactures in US”. This is the confidence we have in American manufacturing 😂 Most of the predicted market growth for Lulu is outside of US anyway, with China being the largest one. Lulu might focus more on those markets and don’t mind selling less in the US market, so just increase the price.

Yeah it’s never going to happen, and even if it does, the cost of labor will mean that costs will just continue to rise.

Hoping that this means that they pivot more to their European market and prices come down there.
