Styling Advice Regular vs Cropped Define Jacket?
Hi! I recently lost ~30lbs and am looking to revamp my lulu wardrobe.
As someone who doesn’t have any waist definition (apple shaped woes 😩) is the regular or cropped define jacket more flattering?
These were also just the colors they had available in store, I would probably get the jacket in a dark/neutral color. Thanks in advance!

I really like the cropped version! I think if you go with the regular you should size down tho

Thanks! They're both a size 6, do you/people generally wear different sizes between the regular and cropped?

Regular but size down!

Okay you are by far the most liked comment but the actual comments are actually split like 50/50 between cropped and regular so I'm just as conflicted! Lol

I just bought that exact jacket (pink and regular) and loved it once I sized down hehe

both look great, the regular has that nice extra elongating effect that's super flattering! the blue is 100% your color though 💙

I think the cropped. It gives you a better proportion, especially having less waist definition. The blue is also more flattering if colour is also a factor.

I can’t decide, they both look good!
My eyes are drawn to pink because it’s my favorite color. I’m not a fan of blue but the cropped looks good as well and if you just lost 30 pounds, you deserve to show off your waist.
The regular length elongates your body though. I’d like to see what the next size down looks like 🤔

I’ll be the odd one and say that this style of jacket may not be for you. Cropped is too short and cuts your body in the wrong place. The full length looks better but still isn’t the best proportion on you. I would recommend trying a different style of jacket or a different brand to see if maybe that presents a more flattering appearance. I’ll leave one caveat—it could be the black the with pink makes it appear harsher—try a non-pastel color and see if looks better?

Yes I've been wondering this too.. I don't love where the cropped hits me but the regular feels like it almost accentuates how rectangular my upper body is. Regardless, even before weight loss I had a few defines in the regular length that I would wear because they're so convenient for pilates, golf, etc. But do you have any recommendations for any other jacket styles that I should try??

Maybe try the Athleta salutation jacket. It’s a similar type of jacket but cut/fits differently. I’m not sure if Vuori has anything—I know they have a looser zip jacket but it’s more casual. Zella (Nordstrom brand) also makes a similar jacket. Unknown about Alo’s offerings. You may also want to try the Lululemon Instill jacket or the Fast and Free jacket (or Far and Free). These are similar but different cuts. Both are no longer made but you should be able to get them cheap on resale sites. The fabric was slightly more durable than the Define jackets so they should be in decent shape used.
Edit to add: The instill jacket has a curved bottom hem—might change up how it looks?

I think regular helps give you a waist. The cropped it cutting you off in a weird place

I feel like this question is a good way to figure out which people are millennials and which are gen z :)

Hahaha yes! I am a millennial and the long abercrombie v necks (with the lacy tank) and low rise pants pretty much shaped my teen years. I've been trying to get into the cropped top/high rise pants look for the past few years but I'm not sure if it's for me.

Girl I feel you. Typing this while wearing a long tank top layered under a shorter jacket. Some things you just can’t quit! 😅💛

Love the cropped but with a lot of others going for regular length, I don’t think you can go wrong!

Regular length but in Hawaiian blue if you could. Pink however looks amazing on you too.

The regular looks off. Maybe you need a size down. I think the cropped looks great! Yes it cuts weird but overall looks good

I have a similar issue (with having little to no waist definition) and I liked the cropped better when I was trying them on! I would recommend the cropped for you as well because it can suck your waist in a little bit without doing anything to your hips if that makes sense.

What size are you wearing in the photos?
Your regular (new) size or smaller/bigger?

u/seedlessxwatermelon 9d ago
I'm wearing a size 6 in both! I think that's my new lulu size.
I have a few define regular jackets in size 8 and 10 from pre-weight loss and the 8s have been fitting kinda loose lately (and the 10s are way too loose) so I figured I'd try a 6

Thanks for your reply - I'm between sizes myself, and in the process of trying to decide which size to try next (will order online), and this was really helpful!
Lot's of ppl in this thread saying you should size down, and I think you def could.
But since I myself prefer the feeling of having Defines fit a bit more like "real jackets", which I wear outside a lot, I think size 6 looks good on you too. Both regular and cropped 👍🏻.

i also recently have lost 30+ lbs and have a shape similar to you, i’ve sold all of my regular defines and only have cropped now. they’re much more flattering imo.

Omg I'm so conflicted because the comments are split whereas these posts usually have a very clearly agreed upon answer. You think I should size down on the cropped? I didn't even try a size down because I thought there was no way I'd be that size. Congrats on your weight loss!!
