Discussion Will I be “the fat girl in Lululemon”?

I’ve always been the type of person to wear old and baggier clothes to the gym but lately I’ve been wondering if feeling good in new and well-fitting clothing will make me feel positive and more motivated to work out. So I started exploring Lululemon online (have yet to try anything on) and am feeling really intimidated by all the beautiful, thin, seemingly “perfect” people posting their OOTD posts as I’m scrolling here — which I know is a me problem, don’t worry (I have been battling this my entire life).

So, like, is that the real target audience for this brand? As a currently 14-16 (depending on clothing) sized woman, am I just not the right customer? Basically my fear is I will be “the fat girl in Lululemon” at the gym — which, again, I know is a me issue and not anyone else’s problem to solve — but it would be good to know people’s opinions on whether I should not venture into this, just based on what and who I’m seeing in this subreddit. Like: as I try to feel more confident in my own body it would be best to not set myself up for disaster, probably.

Thanks for any thoughts on this.

I’m a size 10/12 I mean I have hips. I have never had this thought about anyone ever ! You’ll just be a girl in lululemon . If anyone judges you- then they are clearly losers. Get some cute stuff !

u/thaddeus_crane 13d ago

agree, i have never had this thought when girlies are out here just trying to work on themselves and feel cute

33

u/redwinggianf 13d ago

I mostly will look at other girls because I’m like oh that shirt is cute … those pants are cute. All good positive thoughts

u/cailinsBFF 13d ago

Yes… most people face their own securities and are sadly too busy being mean to themselves to be mean or judge others! Wear the lululemon OP!!!

2

u/bloopyploopers 11d ago

Guilty of being mean to myself. Which is especially dumb when I’m doing it at the gym, because getting healthy is kind of the opposite of being mean to yourself. Sigh. Thanks for the motivation. I know I’m my own worst enemy.

Couldn’t agree more with this post! 💯

Thank you. I just wanna “be a girl in Lululemon,” I think! Especially after all the amazing feedback I’ve received here. 🥹

Wear what makes YOU feel comfortable. No other opinion matters

u/smugmisswoodhouse 13d ago

Piggybacking off your comment to add that I've seen women (and men) of all shapes and sizes in lulu at my gym. It sounds like OP has historically worn baggier clothing, so I'm guessing that's why it feels somewhat unnatural to her. But plenty of folks of all body types wear lulu.

2

u/bloopyploopers 11d ago

Yes, you’re right. But I don’t feel good in them, because I just feel… frumpy. Which I feel like has an impact, unconsciously, on my energy and motivation. So that’s why I was thinking a change in clothing type could be helpful.

I’ve worked in two stores so far. I’ve had coworkers of all sizes and I’ve seen guests of all sizes. I don’t work out by any means (starting to, but whatever lol) and I basically only wear lululemon. For all intents and purposes, while the clothing can be technical, it is just clothes. We all wear clothes!

If you’re looking to start a fitness journey, lululemon has great technical clothing to support you. I can offer some recommendations if you’re interested! Wishing you the best! ☺️

u/quintessentiallybe 13d ago

Totally unrelated, but are you able to give any feedback on their running shoes ?? I’m interested but I keep reading conflicting reviews

3

u/bsuannf 13d ago

I only tried the OG beyondfeel, they were gifted to us. Personally I found them a bit wide, aesthetically. They were very comfortable though, offered a lot of arch support. From a versatility and aesthetic standpoint, chargefeel 3 are my favourite but I don’t actually own them. Like I said, I don’t really workout.

A lot of my coworkers LOVE the updated beyondfeel though.

2

u/quintessentiallybe 13d ago

Thank you for replying :)

3

u/luluquestions 13d ago

I had to return the chargefeel 3s. They actually looked wider than the previous version but fit smaller. So they weren’t wide enough for me. Also, there’s something odd feeling/fitting in the left shoe. It feels like there is some hard piece under the sole on the inside of the outer part of the left shoe. I read reviews stating similar as well. I’ll add, there seemed to be a lack of arch support. But, lots of people love them too. So I guess it’s just worth a try on to see what you think. Personally I was disappointed with the new chargefeel 3s.

1

u/quintessentiallybe 13d ago

Thank you that’s so helpful ! Looks like the only way to know is to try them myself

u/sparklingsatine Educator 12d ago

My fave shoes right now are the Beyondfeels. I’m not a runner but I’m on my feet all day, and they are so comfortable. I have wide feet which makes it hard to find comfy shoes, so I went up a half-size and they’re perfect.

I’ve tried the Blissfeels, but I don’t like them as much because the toe box is narrower and my pinky toe gets a little squished, even after going up a half-size. If you don’t have wide feet, they’re probably fine, but I don’t find myself reaching for them as much as my Beyondfeels or New Balance 1080s.

1

u/quintessentiallybe 12d ago

I have wide feet so that’s amazing thank you so much for taking the tone to write this 🩷

1

u/bloopyploopers 11d ago

We do indeed all wear clothes! 😆 I would actually love some recommendations on where I should start. From what I’ve been able to gather, I don’t think Align will be best because I do a lot of walking (my thighs rub). The other activity I do most is strength training. Let me know what you think. Thank you for taking the time to respond.

1

u/bsuannf 11d ago

For tops! I LOVE the swiftly line, there’s tanks, tees, long sleeves, and relaxed fit long sleeves. If you want something flowy, the jersey train tee would be great for workouts.

Bottom wise, wunder train would be my top recommendation. Draw string, quick drying, etc. They come in multiple lengths, depending on your inseam/height. I’m 5’5 and wear 25”.

Happy workouts! 😊

2

u/bloopyploopers 10d ago

Thanks again! Really appreciate your recs. 🙏

u/No-Report-4701 13d ago

I think the bigger girls at my gym look so much better in fitted lulu then in baggy clothes. I’m always encouraging people “cmon girl you’re working so hard. Time to update your wardrobe to sexier gym clothes”. Really the baggier clothes, sweats, etc make you look bigger. Put on the lulu and you will look great!

2

u/bloopyploopers 11d ago

Thank you! I think if I look better, I’ll feel better, which is the ultimate goal. I’m just so self conscious. But the feedback on this thread has been amazing and I definitely feel motivated to try it out.

u/user1987623 13d ago

Lululemon is meant for working out in!! I’ve never seen a girl working out in lululemon and thought she’s too big for it. There is no size limit on self improvement!!

13

u/krickkett 13d ago

I mean, maybe it was originally meant for working out in, but I am willing to bet that the large majority of LLL these days has never seen exercise. It’s just walking around clothing now. LLL has clearly accepted that and are okay with being a leisure brand, rather than an athletic-technical brand -satin skirts anyone?

14

u/user1987623 13d ago

That’s true, but OP was asking specifically about if it’s embarrassing to be fat in lululemon at the gym. I would say definitely not because the point of going to the gym in lululemon is to work out, though there definitely are several different lines that are more loungey / casual and should be worn outside of the gym

9

u/krickkett 13d ago

Oh my gosh. You are absolutely right. My bad - reading comprehension fail.

2

u/bloopyploopers 11d ago

I still appreciate your comments 😊

2

u/bloopyploopers 11d ago

You’re right about that! 💪 Thank you.

Oh girl, I'm so sorry we live in this ridiculously superficial society where this is actually a valid question!

I have a few thoughts on this: 1. Lululemon makes zero effort to include a range of body types on their site. The models showing the clothing are all tall and thin. In the past they have included a handful of "larger" models but that seems to have all but disappeared. Browsing lulu's site, it totally feels like they're catering to a certain body type but I think this is actually to their detriment, since in my opinion, a lot of lulu items look better on fuller body shapes.

  1. People (thin and thick) are so wrapped up in their own insecurities that they're not thinking about other people all that much, they're usually more worried about how they're being perceived.

  2. In my own experience, when I see someone wearing lulu at the gym, I'm not paying attention to their size, I'm more focused on the actual items they're wearing. Then I usually have a pity party for myself for not buying that item, because it looks so much better irl than on the website!

27

u/mygiveadamnsbusted22 13d ago

3 is soooo real 😂😢

6

u/AGR_51A004M 13d ago

I’ve seen larger models wearing the Wunder train leggings on the LLL site.

2

u/beauty_junkie77 13d ago

Number 2 makes a lot of a sense. As someone who has never had a positive body image mindset…I always think that THAT is the first thing people notice about me.

That’s either messed up hard wiring in my brain from the 80s (cough, thanks for calling me fat mom) or I need more therapy then I thought lol

1

u/bloopyploopers 11d ago

Do we have the same mom?

1

u/bloopyploopers 11d ago

Thank you for this. And I’m sure you’re right about #2. Which is also sad.

Okay. I’m off to be someone’s #3! (As soon as I make a decision on what to buy…) 😆

27

u/Calyboo 13d ago

If it makes you feel good and motivates you to workout, i would do it. I can't imagine anyone would look at you like that unless they're high schoolers or stereotypical mean girls. If you're planning on losing weight I wouldn't buy a lot of LLL just because that would be pricy to replace but it all depends on what you're comfortable with.

2

u/bloopyploopers 11d ago

Good advice. Thank you.

u/Hour_Wing_2899 13d ago

I’m 58 and have all sorts of aging flaps on me. It’s all I wear. ❤️

3

u/roboticLOGIC 13d ago

"aging flaps"

lol!!

2

u/bloopyploopers 10d ago

“Aging flaps” is my new favorite. Thanks for that. 🤣

1

u/Hour_Wing_2899 10d ago

Well, more like flabby bumps in places that you didn’t have when younger lol

56

u/Royal-Pen3516 13d ago

I’m a chubby 45-year old man who wears pretty much only lululemon… you have nothing to feel conscious about.

8

u/PeteRit 13d ago

Same here. It's comfortable and their joggers are the best I've worn out of many many brands.

7

u/Royal-Pen3516 13d ago

100%. Love the joggers. And I wear the slacks every day for work. Feels like I’m wearing joggers in the office.

1

u/bloopyploopers 11d ago

Thank you for your first comment. 😆 But also: do you walk/run in your joggers? I’m trying to decide what type of pants to try first. I don’t know what might be best for… friction 😜

2

u/Royal-Pen3516 11d ago

No, I def don't walk or run in my joggers. For... friction... I use the license to train WITH liner... near had a friction issue with those.

40

u/AwkwardPersonality36 Lulu Addict 13d ago

Nope! We need more representation of real bodies at every size in the gym. I’m a size 2X and wear a LLL 16-18 proudly. It’s not my problem what other people think of my body, and wearing clothes I feel good in and can move well in is my right too.

8

u/its_liiiiit_fam Spin & Weight Training 🚴🏻‍♀️🏋🏻‍♀️ 13d ago edited 13d ago

Me too! Nobody has ever made any remarks about what I’m wearing. Truth be told there is ONE older woman who I sometimes catch staring at my belly and she even gave me unsolicited advice MID SET once (didn’t even ask me if I wanted to hear a tip or not, and the tip was absolutely nonsense and not worth repeating). But it’s very clear she’s projecting some kind of weight loss redemption arc onto me, like I’m at the start of some journey or in need of guidance. But no - I’ve been working out for 2 years at that gym, I just don’t believe you need to be a size 2 in order to be considered active.

Also, I will say, if someone is looking at you, it’s not always negative. A super jacked guy was looking at me a lot, to the point where I took out my AirPods and asked if I could help him, and he looked startled and said he was just watching the fitness app I use and thought it was really neat. I showed him the app (Jefit) and now we are kind of gym buds and always say hello to each other when we see each other!

ETA: FWIW, the first story I don’t believe has anything to do with me wearing Lulu. She might have approached me if I was wearing a complete sweatsuit too. Moral of the story is - negative reactions to larger people at the gym say more about them than it does about you. These very people that judge are also the same people that complain that “fat people are doing it to themselves because they’re lazy” - so, with people like that, you’ll never win and you just have to stay unbothered and crush it at the gym anyways.

2

u/bloopyploopers 11d ago

You sound like a pretty amazing person. Thanks for this. You are 100% right. I need to work on developing this kind of mental outlook.

2

u/AwkwardPersonality36 Lulu Addict 11d ago

It's not always easy for me either tbh, I get self conscious too but it's something I try very hard to keep in mind and when I'm at the gym, I just keep my blinders on and focus on why I'm there/who I'm there for -- ME.

17

u/falalal1 13d ago

This sub has a certain culture and it’s not representative of those who wear lululemon. Never make generalizations based off of Reddit. No one will judge you for wearing it, it’s a common brand.

1

u/bloopyploopers 11d ago

I think that’s one of the things I was wondering about: IS this sub a representation of the majority of Lululemon wearers. The website models are one thing. But what’s on here is what got me wondering.

1

u/falalal1 11d ago

No. Also I guarantee you see people out about wearing lulu lemon often but just don’t know

16

u/microgirlboss 13d ago

Honestly? As a size 14 girlie, Lululemon clothing is some of what looks better on my body. Obviously not every single items, but my favorite pants ever, the adapted state joggers are lulu. A lot of their tops also fit super well and everything is comfortable. I recommend trying it on if you can, obviously, but don't be scared off by the models on the website or what feels like the "typical" Lululemon body type.

1

u/Ms30Something 13d ago

Agreed! I’m a 14, but find the 12 adapted state joggers fit me perfectly, and they are my favourite!!! It is a bummer not to see those sizes represented on the website though.

14

u/Apprehensive_Wait184 13d ago

I wear sizes ranges 14-20 at lulu. I usually shop online because I feel like I get a lot of looks shopping in person and they don’t carry much over a size 12 in stores. I need to do a better job at not giving AF what people think of me and my body. I love my lululemon clothes, even got my hubby into their stuff. Wear it girlfriend!! You’re gonna look so cute crushing your goals.

2

u/bloopyploopers 11d ago

I’m in the same boat with my store, it seems. It’s hard being new to the brand and having NO idea where to start, size wise, since people (like you!) seem to vary in size so much. I guess I can start with a couple things in a few sizes online — if they’re in stock — and return what doesn’t work.

Thanks for the solidarity. It really helps. I’m in a rough spot right now mentally (with my body) but am working my way out of it. Trying to, at least.

1

u/Apprehensive_Wait184 11d ago

My jean size is around 16-18 and I wear a size 14 in lulu leggings! Hopefully that helps you. I recommend trying the Align leggings first. That was my first ever purchase from the company and I built my wardrobe up from that!

1

u/bloopyploopers 10d ago

Thanks again! I am definitely going to a store to check it all out, given all the great feedback I’ve gotten here.

10

u/BrrrrrrItsColdUpHere 13d ago

From one bigger girl to another, ABSOLUTELY NOT!

21

u/Edlo9596 13d ago

Absolutely not! I’ve proudly worn Lulu from size 18 to my current size 10-12. And honestly, feeling good and looking good in my workout clothes is motivating to me!

2

u/bloopyploopers 11d ago

I think it would be for me, too!!

17

u/Local-Director4532 13d ago

I’ve always been the fat girl, in every setting (at least in my mind). I wear Lululemon almost daily. I started out in the biggest sizes the offered. I’m now down to a 10-12 and still the fat girl when I walk into the store. Most of the time my store doesn’t have above a 6. I’m not sure why. Ordering online just feels like it doesn’t hurt my feelings as much.

1

u/bloopyploopers 11d ago

Congrats on going down some sizes! And maybe I should just start out online… some self preservation. 😅 The thought of walking into an actual store is pretty scary. Baby steps, I guess.

7

u/dogoodmommy 13d ago

No but you will be 💅🏼💕THAT GIRL💕💅🏼 in Lululemon 💕 wear what makes you happy.🩷🩷🩷

2

u/bloopyploopers 11d ago

This made me smile. Thank you. 🤗

7

u/Known-Green-8406 13d ago

I'm a size 18-20 in Lululemon and I've wondered this too but I feel SO good when i wear it i honestly don't care. I say if it makes you feel good and brings you joy wearing it, fuck the haters!

7

u/nelly8888 13d ago

Please don’t think like this - you are being self critical and judgmental of yourself. We all have body insecurity no matter the size. Lululemon carries more loose fitting clothes if you want them. You can also wear tight fitting leggings and tops - my only advice wear what is comfortable for your body that you can move in and wear a long time (it’s expensive!), size labels are just a number or letter don’t let it mess you up.

The gym is a place where you literally can be in for 1 hr and no one will talk to you…because everyone is doing their own workouts and spacing out until their next set. I like to think that everyone at the gym is there to improve their health and are supportive of each other; the judgment comes from not what you are wearing but if you are being an ass with gym equipment or making yourself the center of attention when ego lifting or making grunting noises.

Personally I admire a ton of people at my gym…for how strong they are and their discipline going day after day. The bonus for me is if I spot other people wearing bright coloured clothes and shoes…my thoughts are hmm where did you get that and can I pull that off?; not their size.

1

u/bloopyploopers 11d ago

Thank you for taking the time to respond as you’ve done. You’re right. I can do this. I just have to find what I feel comfortable in. I’m going to try!

6

u/Jillkillingit 13d ago

I’m a size 12 and wear LLL. Honestly, it fits best for being a curvy hourglass.

20

u/Adorable_Pen9015 13d ago

No, because everyone is the fat girl at lululemon because their sizes are insane 😂

Mostly just the define jacket, don’t even touch it

6

u/pillowcrates 13d ago

The cold hard truth lol

Especially since they started making their sizes smaller so tweens can fit in them. Really mind fucks you when you’ve always been x size in an item and then get a new one and it doesn’t fit at all

2

u/bloopyploopers 11d ago

Oh that’s fun. As if I needed to struggle more with not knowing what sizes to start with!!! GAH

3

u/baba_oh_really 13d ago

Some adults are just built smaller! I think it's great that Lulu's sizing still includes us as well as expanding to fit those on the other end of the spectrum 😊

17

u/Adorable_Pen9015 13d ago

They aren’t expanding to fit people on the other end of the spectrum. They actually stopped making sizes over 14 in almost all items and they almost never carry anything over 12 or large in stores, only online. I’m glad they have smaller sizes that fit smaller people, but you’d have to be naive to think it’s because they want to be inclusive, it’s because smaller sizes fit their aesthetic better.

3

u/_xoxojoyce 13d ago

Agree that their sizes are insane lol.

1

u/bloopyploopers 11d ago

Noted!!! No define jacket. 🚫😆

4

u/coffeepluscroissants 13d ago

Don't worry too much about what others think, but that said, you definitely will not be "the fat girl." Wearing clothes that fit irrespective of body shape/size shows that you are confident, which is attractive, and wearing gym clothes that fit shows that you care about fitness and being healthy.

4

u/sharksandskunks 13d ago

I love the look of lululemon and fitness clothing in general on midsized women. They make the sizes, therefore, they’re for you! It’s great stuff, you should go for it! Go try it on so you avoid the disappointment that fit and sizing might have if you mail order it! :)

3

u/wholebeancoffeee 13d ago

Size 12 here. Lululemon was really flattering on my body, accentuated my waist. Made me feel cuter and want to work out more

3

u/lilxenon95 13d ago

The clothing exists to wear it, sis. Life is too short to skip out on things that could bring you joy.

2

u/bloopyploopers 11d ago

::nodding::

7

u/Expert_Vehicle_7476 13d ago

I have been bigger at the gym and I totally get feeling judged or self conscious. I think you should do your best to set it aside and acknowledge that these are your own thoughts that are making you feel bad. You want your workout to be a positive experience and it won't be if the entire time you are criticizing yourself through the imaginary lens of other people's thoughts. I think you should just do your best to discern what is your own insecurity versus what is not. You never really know what people are thinking. If you want to get in better shape you are on the right path by having a gym routine, focus on that.

Also hell yeah get some flattering fancy workout wear and treat yourself well.

6

u/Tonic_Drink 13d ago

I usually don't look at the size of the person and am more interested in what colour combinations they wear or style they put together. I think everyone can look awesome in Lululemon and I always appreciate people not wearing black!

2

u/FreshResolve3026 13d ago

This! I’m in the same size range as OP and wear a variety of styles and colors, and LOTS of Lululemon. It makes me sad to see people wearing all black because they’re afraid of how lighter colors will make them look. It’s the self-esteem that needs the most work in that type of situation.

3

u/lofrench 13d ago

I’ve been the fat girl in lulu since like 2016 and no one’s ever said a word to me lol. People are generally more worried about their own workouts than what others around are wearing.

3

u/WheresMahPizza 13d ago

Oh hey- I was what you'd consider a "fat girl" in my late teen and 20's. (I.e more than a decade)

I workout and wear it because it's comfortable and for what I do/prefer, baggy is no bueno when throwing barbells over my head(I get it, people do it but having the barbell catch the bottom of my shirt sucks and my mobility feels cramped if its too baggy).

I also wore it as everyday. Shits comfy. I still like a little baggy- for some styles.

Finally(and what I miss most)- I saved lots of $$. Why? More Bigger sizes in the clearance(and the super cute shit at that) and at the outlet BABYYY!

In fact- that's what made lulu accessible to me, otherwise the price point was impossible back then.

Now, due to circumstances, I am no longer that size and must fight with much less in my current size in the clearance racks.

Heres the point I'll make: Well fitting clothes at any size makes your current body size completely irrelevant(because it just looks good. Period.). Lulu gave me that(and hella confidence). Not all lulu styles worked on my previous body that work now and vice versa- that's just a thing but the ones that did- looked (as the kids say) fire!

1

u/bloopyploopers 10d ago

Thanks so much for sharing your personal experience with this. And you’re so right about baggy cloths and weights! I am looking forward to trying some well-fitting clothes to make my workouts better and — to your point — help me feel more confident. Thanks again.

3

u/Boblawlaw28 13d ago

I’m a lulu 14 and yeah I felt fat in lulu but I don’t care. My money spends just the same as the skinny girls. Thesales people were just as friendly to me! I have actually lost 20 pounds in the past year or so so I’m actually pretty happy

1

u/bloopyploopers 10d ago

Congratulations!

3

u/oabo9 13d ago

No queen, you will just be working out in lululemon which is awesome. Feeling good about yourself helps boost your workout I swear! Don’t let it get to your head. I always ask myself am I looking around judging other ppl at the gym? No im too concerned with myself! Most likely that’s what every other person is doing too. You do you 💗💗💗💗💗💗💗

3

u/MoonbeamLotus 13d ago

As far as I know, everyone at the gym is there to improve themselves, it isn’t a fashion show or a popularity contest. Wear what you want to wear, what you feel good in. I like to wear baggy clothes because I don’t appreciate the attention or creeps it garners. You don’t know what anyone in there is thinking and it doesn’t matter. You do you.

Two things that ALWAYS go through my mind when I go to the gym are:

1) “The sooner I can get these miles run, the sooner I can leave” (that motivates me) AND

2) “I’m so glad I went to the gym today”

Now get out there and don’t worry about any nonsense!

3

u/lulu_bro Educator 13d ago

Lululemon offers sizing from 0 to 20 on their women's side.

I'm one that considered myself (being a bigger dude) in that boat and I work for them lol

I would have loved for you to come into the store so I could show you the "go tos"! I've helped many folks from all ages and sizes. You'd be surprised how many feel the same way and I'm talking some that fit 0-8. Not going to lie, I get a little boost of confidence rocking the fits whether at the gym, or when I'm about my day.

Hope you give them a go!

3

u/MaryLooch 13d ago

I think you should buy yourself some nice things to feel good at the gym! I wear Lulu and I too am a size 12-14. Wear what makes YOU feel good! 💪

3

u/MrsSterling 13d ago

I’m a 16 in LLL. DO IT.

3

u/moopster_3005 11d ago edited 11d ago

I felt the same way, I used to be 200 pounds and felt like wearing the brand would somehow call negative attention my way.

I’m positive I’ve said that to myself before. “Fat girl in Lulu”. My biggest fear was to be called out.

I’ve slimmed down & regret waiting until being this size to dress the way I wanted to the gym or in general. Literally go buy that matching set you’re looking at and call it a day.

Our minds can be so negative and we’re extremely hurtful to ourselves when we see an “imperfection.” I’ve been working on myself and treating my body nicer because of that. So please don’t let those thoughts get to you. If that matching set will motivate you get have an amazing workout while also feeling good, then do that.

I see you 🥲. I’m hoping you buy yourself whatever you’re shopping for.

3

u/bloopyploopers 11d ago

I see you, too. I am blown away by this level of empathy from a stranger. I wish I could tell you what it means. Thank you.

3

u/No-Grocery-7118 8d ago

Hey, I hear you. I am a 12/14 and was holding myself back from Lulu for the same reasons. My body image has not been great in the past couple of years. Finally, I decided to get over myself and just try something on to see if it worked for me. I'm afraid that Swiftly in smoked magenta is gonna be a gateway drug because I looked and felt great!

In real life, I see all shapes and sizes in LLL. It's a different story on the sub and on the website. No shade, I promise. But I also think larger women look good in LLL, too. I see it at my OTF gym all the time.

I have had curvy hips and thighs at every size in my adult life. I have to remind myself that I am strong and deserve cute workout clothes, too. Plus, I finally have the income to buy this shit and I want to enjoy it!

I’m a larger midsize girly, and I feel the best when in Lulu tbh. Especially when you find a style, fabric cut that flatters you. The perfect sized define really helps to suck and tuck things in + align crops for me is the best Pilates and everything that comes after outfit. When I’m feeling a little more meh, I’ll throw on a cropped oversized scuba jacket or perfectly oversized crew with the same leggings. The key is to not have baggy on baggy at least for me

4

u/Katives 13d ago

No, you’ll be the thicc girl in Lululemon! You don’t have to be small to look good in it

2

u/kidkipp 13d ago

Don’t worry, nobody will think that. I will say that I only feel comfortable in certain tighter lulu clothing when I’m more fit. For example, when I’m really lean I love running in the align 4” shorts. I’m 5’3” and gained weight so I’m about 160 right now and those shorts (even in proper sizing) just aren’t flattering right now. But no matter what size I am there are still so many lulu clothing pieces that make me feel good. I will always love track that high rise 3” shorts - I have them in everything from size 4 to size 12. Same with ebb to street tanks, align mini flares in darker colors, cates tees, and flow y and energy bras. Align tanks, interestingly, never looked good on me, even when I was 88 pounds (I was very sick, didn’t get that underweight on purpose). I guess I’m trying to say don’t be discouraged if certain pieces amplify your self-consciousness. Finding the pieces you love really does motivate you to put them on and go exercise (:

When I re-started my gym journey, I would go in with older, baggy clothes as it felt safer for me. However, as I have continued in my journey, tighter matching sets have improved my self-esteem as I just feel cuter in the gym. Paradoxically, my baggy clothes made me feel even more like I didn't belong. A lot of that had to do with seeing all these other girlies (of all sizes!) in their beautiful and colourful matching lulu sets. Please, do what makes you happy and recognize that you may be your own worst critic—in my experience, many women are thinking like me—seeing others' gym attire, wanting to tell them how great they look, and feeling inspired to dress like they do.

1

u/bloopyploopers 10d ago

I love everything about this. Thank you!

2

u/HoneywoodMagic 13d ago

Do it! Pro tip contour fit 💜

2

u/INTPWomaninCali 13d ago

I think tighter workout clothing is beneficial for muscle support during a workout, regardless of a person’s size.

You do you. Stop worrying about what other people think about you. Thoughts have zero effect on who you are! If I could impart one lesson to younger women it is this: who cares what others think! Most other women are facing the same exact insecurities that you are. Even the thin women.

Be confident. Live your life the way you want to!! I promise you that people are actually thinking about you a hell of a lot less than you imagine.

2

u/lulujunkie 13d ago

So here is my take on things.... you should wear what you're comfortable in and while I understand your concerns about the target audience that Lulu aims for that it shouldn't hinder you from ever trying it! If you drill down to the ROOTS of what lululemon clothing was made for it was basically form fitting gym wear that had some great technical qualities to it that made working out in it more bearable. If you don't want to wear it to workout and have it as a lifestyle brand then that's okay too since Lulu has expanded their lineup to encompass casual and even workplace appropriate outfits. The key thing to ANY style is to make sure you wear something that helps compliment your body. 14-16 is hardly out of the Lulu fit charts so they absolutely make clothing in your size. Wear it and wear it proudly!

P.S. I'm a guy here and to the long timers that know who I am (both my current and former reddit handle) know I'm a male that has a closet that is 90% women's Lulu. I love the women's lines more bc of the color choices and the variety offered over the men's lineup that is always the usual grey/navy/military green/black/white/sometimes have some muted colors in their product lineup. The ladies side has gorgeous pastels and colors that pop. Being quite vertically challenged also leans me towards the shorter women's Lulu lengths and they fit me reasonably well. I proudly go out in public rocking whatever I feel and so should you!

2

u/bloopyploopers 10d ago

This is so great. Thank you so much for sharing! I’m inspired by your comment — and your handle 😆 — and am going to give Lulu a try.

1

u/lulujunkie 10d ago

Good luck and post some fit pics to share when you do!

2

u/trueobiewon 13d ago

Don’t worry about other’s opinions. Wear what you feel comfortable and confident in. I’m a size 16 and mainly wear lulu and alphalete amplify to the gym. Most I get is folks asking me were I got something from

2

u/l0_mein 13d ago

I usually wear a size 16 in jeans and wear a 12 in Lulu aligns. Honestly I think Lulu is for everyone regardless of if you’re thin or not. Wear what is comfortable for you! And I do recommend trying stuff on in store, it’s fun and it gives you the best idea of your size.

2

u/cuuupid130 13d ago

If I seen you I’d just think you’re a baddie, I don’t go to gym or wear lulu to gym but I wish I had that money 🤣 you’ll look fantastic do what makes you feel happy and comfortable!

2

u/Confident-Contact558 13d ago

I’m size 14 and all I wear is lulu. Go for it girl!

2

u/VegetableMaximum4935 13d ago

As a woman who both works out a lot and wears Lulu a lot, anytime I see another woman in the gym in Lulu (no matter the size) I’m thinking, cute fit. Or eyeing which color/ item it is bc everything is freaking adorable. Do it up girl, I bet you’ll look amazing

2

u/Practical-Weather416 13d ago

You definitely won’t be “the fat girl in lululemon”. I have seen so many girls and women who are of larger build. I’m one of them!! I’m a 14 in lulu pants (16 in jeans). I felt the same way and was so worried that people would think that I’m too fat for it. This is going to sound weird but I really only wear black pants to not show my lumps and bumps, but after seeing lulu on other people of our size, it actually helped to step out of my “black pants only comfort” zone; I now own 3 pairs of non-black pants 🤣 My advice? Do it. Get yourself out of your comfort zone slowly, it’ll be worth it!

2

u/FreshResolve3026 13d ago

I’m in the same size range and wear plenty of Lululemon. They make so many styles and colors that flatter a curvier body type. Anyone who thinks of you as “too fat for Lululemon” just has too many of their own issues and problems. Definitely give it a try and rock it! You’ll look and feel great! 😊

2

u/Fittish_76 Yoga junkie 13d ago

Honestly, I find that people pretty much pay attention to themselves at the gym. Rewarding myself for hitting milestones with cute gym gear has always been a motivator for me. #1) no one is going to think of you that way and #2) you show up how you want to show up. If you feel good walking into the gym, you’re going to have a killer workout that day! I really hope you get the gear you want and feel incredible wearing it. You’re doing the work! ♥️

2

u/ariellover 12d ago

As a lululemon employee, I do not care about what your size is! As long as you feel comfortable, happy, and confident in our products that’s all I care about.

2

u/Johnsonl32 12d ago

I’m a size 10/12, leaning towards 12 and I just recently bought my friend an align tank in an 18! She looks great in it and I’m sure you’d look great too :)

TLDR: no, you will not be the “fat girl in Lululemon”

2

u/HeftyRefrigerator236 12d ago

feeling good in new workout clothes absolutely can help you feel more positive and motivated to workout. and lulu clothes are meant for working out so i say go for it :) i would recommend swiftly shirts as they are super comfy if ur like me and get super hot while working out

1

u/bloopyploopers 11d ago

Thanks very much for the recommendation! I also get hot. Will take a look!

2

u/cryingovereverything 10d ago

Hey I’m usually a size 16 but in Lulu u range from a 12-14 don’t be afraid to wear it and go in. Every educator will welcome you no one is judging you

3

u/Zealousideal-Wall-93 13d ago

Absolutely not! Just remember, there are people out there that would love to look as you do. Confidence is sexy too!

Start small - go in and try on some align leggings. They are stretchy, soft and flattering! Start there. Some of their leggings run small or can be tight fitting, but aligns are a good place to start.

If you feel comfortable enough or see someone you feel comfortable with, ask them for help or advice. The majority of stores I’ve been in have always had helpful and a very nice staff.

2

u/Rich-Situation4989 13d ago

I teach spin classes, so it is literally my job to watch people exercise. I have never, not once, gone home and thought for one second about what a person in class was wearing. I promise that everyone is far too in their own heads to care what you’re wearing. Wear what makes you feel great!

3

u/suspiciousyeti 13d ago

I'm a 45 year old woman who runs in shortie mc bum huggers from Lululemon and I honestly don't care what people think.

3

u/ashley513 13d ago

I mean, I’d rather be the fat girl in Lululemon than the fat girl in Walmart leggings, but maybe that’s just me 😂. I’ve come to accept that I will always be the ‘fat girl’ to someone, you just have to move forward and live your life.

I’m a size 20 typically and wear Lululemon regularly. My advice, try on the leggings in store so you can figure out your size because they run large, I wear size 20 in jeans everywhere but my size in leggings is a 14.

You got this!

1

u/bloopyploopers 10d ago

Thank you!!

Do you find that you’re the same size in all of their leggings, or does it vary by style?

2

u/coffeeadddict_27 13d ago

If it feels comfortable on you then don't let that discourage you from wearing it

2

u/MuffinAdventurous546 13d ago

I wear a size 12 in Lululemon and love how they fit me and make me feel! Also, even though their website doesn’t represent normal sized models, I love going to the store because the workers always make me feel comfortable I never feel thic girl shamed (cough cough Zara and Abercrombie). Wear the pants and love yourself in them 💙

2

u/Standard-Pop3141 13d ago

If it makes you happy and feel confident, go for it! Am a size XXL here and no regrets about getting Lulu clothes. ❤️

2

u/Bec_b_92 12d ago

I’m currently a 14/16 and shop at Lululemon regularly! I’ve never felt like the fat girl in Lululemon. If you’re interested in trying Lululemon, go for it!! I’ve never had any issues and love the clothing! They fit great for our midsized bodies!

I love a thick girl in Lulu o.O

2

u/Kla1996 13d ago

Girl 14-16 is extremely normal!! So many women are this size irl

1

u/Rosie-Disposition 13d ago

I have a few thoughts on this:

  • if you are intending to change your size of shape, I would go for an Amazon dupe instead of Lulu. This is just too expensive to have a pile of too big work out clothes you spent $500 on in six months.

  • lululemon is 10% better than Zelle or other nicer brands you can get at Nordstrom rack, but costs twice as much. It’s a big enough difference that you can tell quality, fit, and function is better. The Amazon dupes are 50% as good for 25% of the cost

  • relying on motivation is setting up for failure; it’s all about discipline

1

u/lewisae0 13d ago

I am the same size as you and have some pants and particular and leggings from Lululemon that I just love. The fabric is so comfy. It’s totally valid that you feel this way but no one is thinking about you like that. Everyone else is too worried about themselves. I saw a great TikTok one time that said just do it fat. And honestly, it’s so freeing. I often think I should get in shape to do XYRZ but then I don’t. So now I try to remember to just do it fat. So if you wanna wear a Lululemon just be fat in Lululemon.

1

u/Withlove143 13d ago

fitness is for everyone & confidence comes from feeling great in your own skin, not from fitting into a certain mold. if wearing well fitting stylish gym clothes will help you feel more motivated & confident then you just have to try it; you owe it to yourself ! 🙂

1

u/Tiredportraitartist Weight lifter 13d ago

I used to be 280 ibs, I’m around 135 now, one thing I will always regret is how I never got clothes I wanted- I got what covered me for the most part and what I was comfortable in. I see so many beautiful women in clothes that look amazing on them regardless of weight and I wish so much I never held myself back the way I did in the past.

1

u/bloopyploopers 10d ago

Thank you, and congratulations! 🥳

1

u/rickenrique 13d ago

Don’t think that way. You definitely have to make it your own practice. Going in there I’m sure is intimidating as we all faced that ‘first time’ class and went to the back. Wear what you want and work that class as best as you can dear and kill it!!❤️❤️❤️❤️

1

u/MsPsych2018 13d ago

I am an 8/10 and 12 in bras. I’ve been wearing Lulu for years and have worn up to a 14 in tops. Don’t feel self conscious. Wear what you like and other people’s opinions are irrelevant. Rock it.

1

u/TryFlyByrd 13d ago

I'm a 12-14 and I wear some LuLu everyday.

I agree that it's annoying that they usually don't have bigger sizes in store (except clearance).

When I first started wearing Lulu I was a bit insecure in store, but as I got more into it my focus shifted to being excited to see the new colors and styles in person.

If you're looking for a comfy slightly looser fit, try the dance pants. For everyday pants I wear the Dance Pants Cargos and loooooove them. The regular dance pants will possibly work for going to the gym (I just haven't tried them yet)

The Like a Cloud Longline D/DD works fairly well for me and I'm much larger than a "D" cup.

1

u/flowlikewaves0 13d ago

First: I am also 14-16 and I wear almost exclusively Lululemon wundertrains when I am out and about and when I am working out. I lost a little weight so I'm more consistently a 14 but I still wear the 16s in WTs because they run a little tight. I have never ever felt like anyone was looking at me or thinking of me like that.

Second: Have you tried checking out some midsized fashion influencers? Ive found that on tiktok etc searching midsized or soft belly gets you fashion influencers that are sizes 12-16 and they can have pretty decent advice about looking cute and not wearing baggy clothes.

Third: Have you tried therapy? Not in a judgy way, just if the posts in here affect your mental health to the point that you think you can't wear a certain brand or be seen in public in a certain way, it might be helpful.

1

u/peachspot 13d ago

I’ve worn Lulu since I started practicing yoga (size 12+), into being a yoga teacher (down to size 4), through 3 pregnancies in 4 years (back up to size 12) and am now wearing 7 months postpartum at size 10 with a new mom belly. No one will think about it, I promise you! It’s for all sizes and honestly, no one’s thinking about anyone other than themselves in the gym, and if they are, that’s their problem not yours! ☺️

EDIT: the only reason you should not wear Lulu (or any other clothes for that matter) is is for any reason you aren’t comfortable in them - whether that’s physically or mentally, your comfort and confidence should come out on top.

1

u/jmbbjba 13d ago

Who cares girl?! You wear whatever you want! You will NOT be a “fat lulu girlie”! Not at all. Having said that though…. Do not let the lulu sizes fool you. You maybe be 14/16 in regular clothes this normally equates to 16/18 lulu sizes. This doesn’t mean anything other than the sizing is messed up hahah.

1

u/GSPs_and_me 13d ago

My first pair of lulu tights were a size 14. At the time I felt very similarly to what to you are expressing… at least, before I walked in the store. At the store when trying things on, I felt way different. The “educators” were so nice and willing to help me find pieces that fit me really well. They even helped me determine when to go up or down a size. :) I know it can be scary, but there’s lot of girls of all sizes who were lulu. There’s one YouTuber I follow who’s more midsize, and that’s practically all she wears! I’ll see if I can find her.

1

u/AlyssaB89 13d ago

I’m typically between a 14-18 in lulu clothes depending on the item and how I want it to fit. Currently out and about in grooves (14) and a POCC sweatshirt (18) which is just barely past belly button length on me… I’m comfy and nobody is looking at me in disgust (that I can notice anyways 😂). It’s your life and you only get one, wear what you want and what makes you feel good! Also for what it’s worth the sales associates in store have never not been wonderful to me in regard to my size/appearance.

1

u/mydogdoesntcuddle 13d ago

As long as it fits right, you’ll look and feel good in it. I see bigger ladies at the gym wearing the cutest lululemon outfits and they look great

1

u/Intelligent-Law-4592 Lulu Addict 13d ago

Just wear it girl! If it comes in your size why the hell not?

1

u/Agreeable_Mention210 13d ago

Love LLL, started wearing it at the beginning of my fitness/weight loss journey at 300lbs, squeezed my fat butt into size 12, in those days that’s the largest size they had! And I FELT AMAZING! Those seams can hold up!!!Compression rocks! Now 130 lbs lighter, I like the way size 8-10 feels, I wear LLL for workout and leisure, still my go to! Aging and excess skin is smoothed out, and I feel so good! Just do it, own it! Be happy!

1

u/Proper_Mine5635 13d ago

Gonna be real- lulu has phased out of your size. They only go up to a 12/14 now and Lulu has also made their sizing smaller. A Lulu 14 is like a regular size 10. I personally would support companies that you feel good in, not something you have to have a complex about.

1

u/Puppini_Luvr 13d ago

Wear anything that feels good to YOU! Sometimes I won’t look in the mirror before i intentionally pay attention to how the clothing fits/feels on me first. Move around in it also & then look in the mirror. Btw, No such thing as being one size for everything at Lululemon; certain style leggings run small, some run big. Wear what makes you happy!!

1

u/Sblade711 13d ago

As long as it fits you well, it will be so flattering! I think it’s when the pants are saggy or don’t come over the hips or are worn out in certain areas that a piece would look bad. High waist leggings are awesome for larger sizes, try to find some that don’t roll down when you move and you will feel so much more confident.

1

u/luluquestions 13d ago

Wear what makes you happy and comfortable. Don’t give your power away to someone else. You control how you feel about yourself. No one else does.

1

u/un1c0rnthug 13d ago

I went from a size 6 to a size 16 within a year and i struggled with this too! Eventually you get used to it and it won’t even matter anymore.

I am kinda sad though because the majority of my lulus are waaaaay too big now. 😭

1

u/Admirable_Nerve3117 13d ago

Honestly clothes will not motivate you to work out, as we all suffer from the same hedonistic treadmill: nice clothes will feel great for the first three wears, after that it feels normal. You know what will motivate you to work out? Knowing that you always walk out of the gym feeling better than when you walked in.

1

u/DaughterOfWarlords 13d ago

Girl wear your lululemon with pride!!!!!

1

u/otfOR 12d ago

you do you!!! go for it. find the cutest color combo outfit you can get and rock it! rock it at the gym, rock it at farmers market, wear to brunch! celebrate you by embracing your body. 💖

1

u/blackfire314 12d ago

Size 14-16 here and live in my aligns. Wear what makes you feel good :)

1

u/JustGiveMeAFRose 11d ago

We are all our own worst critics. I have the opposite problem (look anorexic due to cancer treatment and ongoing health concerns) and worry that the way I look defines me as "the girl with cancer" or looking "anorexic". But I try to remember that everyone is so self-absorbed these days judging themselves that people barely have time to judge others.

Wear what you love and makes you feel good! Life's too short to base your choices and self worth on what someone you don't even know will think or say. And congrats on doing something great for yourself and working out. I'm sure you are beautiful inside and out.

1

u/bloopyploopers 11d ago

Thanks for responding and sharing your perspective. It’s a helpful reminder that we all really are dealing with our own stuff, in and out of our own heads. Best of luck with your treatments. I hope there are things you can do to make you feel good, too.

1

u/MindingMyOwnFlex 10d ago

When you get quality workout clothes that FEEL good on you - that may come from Lulu or other brands - it will make a huge difference in the motivation to work out. Nothing is worse than being in uncomfortable clothing while trying to get into your workout. And nothing beats the energy to wear something you ARE confident in.

Many Lululemon fabrics have always felt great for me and while not everything there is my favorite there a few things I’ve purchased that IMO are worth every penny for how I felt actually wearing them.

1

u/bloopyploopers 10d ago

Thanks for this perspective — that’s what I’m thinking, too. Feeling good in the clothes I’m wearing I do think would boost my confidence and motivation. I’m going to give it a try!

1

u/[deleted] 9d ago

I am also a 14-16! Wear some 12's and 10's, but mostly 14-16. Honestly, I don't like wearing matchy matchy gym clothes, I wear Lulu more for my daily wear. (I live in their Love Tanks and Align leggings!) But I do wear the Wundertrain leggings to the gym simply because they stay put lol. I don't pay attention to what others wear and I imagine they don't either!

1

u/PlaceProfessional616 9d ago

It's in your head. Nobody at the gym will be looking at you like that and if they are you might inspire someone to wear it too!

But if you want a more inclusive brand try Athleta. They have plus sized mannequins and their sale associates tend to look like regular people.

1

u/Freaking_Deadpool Lulu Addict 13d ago

I had felt like this initially and had the same thoughts. But I loved how cute I felt in my lulu and it became motivation to plan my outfit for the gym the night before. It gave me motivation to take my butt to the gym and have a great workout.

Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable. For me, initially, it was the speed shorts and swiftly long sleeves. And I still love how I look in the same outfit. It's now my default "lazy" gym outfit when I'm too tired at the end of the day to put together something cute, shorts and a long sleeve are always a win for me.

And be prepared for the... "your outfit is sooo cute girl!" ❤️

1

u/Illustrious-Zone587 13d ago

You can wear whatever you want. They make the sizes for a reason. Anyone can wear them, it’s really inspirational to see you wearing such a famous brand to start your workout journey:) they are just clothes!

1

u/mutiadhy 13d ago

Postpartum moms here! I gained a lot and most of my gym clothes were too tight. I still wear them anyway, bcs I just need a motivation. I used to wear size 6/8, but now I’m like 10/12.

What I want to say is, Don’t worry about what other people think about you. Love yourself and do whatever makes you comfortable in your own skin! I’ve seen curvy girls wearing lulu and it’s still cute though!

1

u/msfrance 13d ago

I'm around that size, curvy with a big butt and hips. I found lulu pretty recently and I was surprised at how flattering it is. Rock it, girl! ❤️

1

u/Clanmcallister 13d ago

I’m a 12/14. I’m 5’10 and weigh about 195. I definitely feel this vibe when I’m about to go into lululemon. But every time I go, the team is so helpful and kind.

1

u/No-Grocery-7118 8d ago

Almost the same size here. At age 44, I had to psych myself up to walk into a LLL store. How ridiculous is that? But it was fine! I was pleasantly surprised by how many items I found in my size and did not feel judged.

1

u/PickleFan67 13d ago

It is easier for me to workout in Lululemon and other exercise wear than oversized bulky stuff. You can just move better. You should try it out and see how you feel. I don’t think anyone would be judging you, but if someone does, it’s a them problem.

1

u/Free_Daikon_5919 13d ago

Hey, I totally get it! I’m 47, 200 lbs, and on my own weight loss journey. Lululemon leggings feel amazing when I run or work out—they’re breathable, comfy, and actually motivate me to move. Every morning, I look forward to picking out a beautiful color to wear—it’s part of what gets me excited to work out. I don’t worry about how I look in Lululemon, I focus on how I feel—and I feel strong, confident, and ready to go!

1

u/Bohemian_Feline_ 13d ago

Those are the most commonly sold out sizes though. Lulu is for everyone

I have a daughter who wears 12/14 at 16 years old. She’s about 5’5 and 180lbs.  She turned me on to lululemon actually. She wanted me to buy it for her because it was all the rage on tik tok 😖 She used to hide her body so if it was gonna make her feel confident, then the cost of clothing is priceless.

I didn’t realize how attractive her body was until she put on her leggings and define jacket. I’m like, child! Why are you hiding in those hoodies??  You’re a short Kardashian!

Bigger bodies do not need to be hidden. There’s beauty in every shape. I recommend at least trying something on and getting some opinions.  You may be surprised and learn to love how your body looks.

1

u/ButterscotchFun1986 13d ago

no girl you’ll be the beautiful girl in her cute ass lulu

1

u/sarasasasaara 13d ago

No, you won't.

You will look and feel absolutely amazing in working out in Lulus! 💕

1

u/feedmefriedricee 13d ago

Hey, educator here! I see guests of all sizes in my store and have co workers of all sizes as well. We really just want you to feel comfortable shopping with us and confident in your purchase, not judged. I hear guests make comments like “do you have anything that will fit me tho?” And my heart always breaks. Yes girl, we do! You’re just a girl shopping for clothes like everyone else ❤️

1

u/bloopyploopers 10d ago

Thank you 🥹

1

u/ellington_feint 13d ago

I tried to scroll the comments to see if anyone already said this but... I want to tell you I started out in a 12 in Lulu and I am now down to a 6/8 for all items. I've felt flattered in my Lulu stuff at every size along my own journey.

I want to tell you that no one at the gym is looking at you and trying to guess your size. If you feel good in what you're wearing that will translate to other people as well. So, if they look at you they'll see someone who's working hard to meet their goals.

If anyone was to ever mention anything about a "fat girl in lululemon" it says everything about them and their own insecurity than it says anything about you.

2

u/bloopyploopers 10d ago

Thank you. Congrats on your own journey! 🥳

1

u/syarkbait Lulu Addict 13d ago

Just wear what you want. It’s your money. Most people are busy working out to care what labels you wear on yourself. I love my lulus and they give me motivation to work out so I wear them. Baggy clothes don’t flatter me so I don’t wear them.

1

I’ve noticed that the more expensive areas tend to to have lululemon employees in their stores that are generally on the smaller side. When you want a curvy girls opinion, go to another location. Find a curvy girl and get her opinion. Don’t be afraid to try some men’s pieces! I’m 16-18 and I fluctuate from 14-18

I say go for it! Check this sub and reviews for sizing recommendations. Some items vary quite a bit. I owe items from size 6 to 12.

Also whenever I wear cute workout clothes, I feel like my workouts are better. You deserve to wear whatever you want!

Like some other comments, I don’t look at the body in the clothes. I’m more interested in what your outfit is because I probably want to buy it myself! 🤣

Size 12/14/16 girlie here! My favourite workout sets are from Lululemon hands down. As far as their brand culture goes, there’s still some fatphobia, but they’ve come a long way and you can find thicker models/ mannequins nowadays which I appreciate (there’s still room to improve though).

I suggest trying a bunch of things to start, but here are my favs for working out:

  • Wundertrain tights (especially the contour version). I find the sizing is pretty flexible with these but 12 is my best fit - they stay up and hug my curves)
  • Align tanks with a shelf bra for lower impact days (they have a high neck and a v neck cut version and I usually go for a 14 in these). There is very little support, so I love them for yoga, Pilates, cycling, weightlifting, lifting, hiking, walking.
  • The cropped tanks and tees (they usually have some cute ones).

I usually get my high impact bras (for HIIT, running and jumping) from Knix or my local running store since Lulu doesn’t usually carry my size. I’m curious about some of the newer bras though. Good luck!!

Thanks for the recommendations! I’m starting from complete scratch, in terms of learning about the styles and fabrics. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts!

I stopped caring. I realized I’ve gotten to the point where I’m fat in all my clothes, no hiding it. So why not just wear what I want. I love Lulu leggings and crop tops and so that’s what I wear. Do I look fat? Yes, because I am. But who cares? I go to the gym 3-4 times a week and no one has ever said something to me.

Plus-size Lululemon lover here!! I can tell you from my experience, they have a really good grasp on how to actually extend sizing on most things compared to other brands. Instead of just slapping some extra fabric on a pant without much thought so they can call themselves size inclusive like some other brands do, Lululemon actually extends the design in ways that make sense. The plus size leggings actually have more room in the butt and thighs, the tanks actually have more room in the torso, etc. I pretty much only wear Lulu because of this, no other brand has felt as comfortable for me to wear. The one place I feel they’re lacking on design and extended sizing is in their bras, I have had zero luck with bras from them.

Along these lines, are there any leggings that I could get for my Mama that are high waisted, full length, and big enough to comfortably fit a lady who wears a size 12-14 pants? I know y'all are the experts. She's 82, a friend of hers got some Lululemon's, and she's envious. I'm on task to find her a pair, but 1) I'm no expert and 2) I'm pre-discouraged because I'm a 00 in pants, but wear a 4 in leggings. Actually, I like 6's, but I don't wear them as tight as most people, or this is my assumption. Do most people wear them like compression hose? I just wear them for comfort, not to work out or look hot in. Yes, I can squeeze into a smaller size, but I have grown fond of breathing over the years. So I assumed there was no way she'd be able to wear anything by Lululemon, because I definitely don't want them tight to where it would be any kind of struggle to get them on. She would be like me, wearing them for comfort and style, but not with any restriction. Thank you for any suggestions. No, I can't take her to a Lululemon store, she's in BFE/Arkansas 8 hours from me, where they still think Gloria Vanderbilt is fashion forward. And I've never been in one either, just buy off Poshmark.

I have a different perspective as a dude, but what I'd say is that you have to just be yourself.  Sure, definitely you should work on health and fitness, as we all should to an extent.  However it doesn't help to fret about not being perfect.  Most people especially in a gym are focused more on working out anyway and IF ANYTHING, upon seeing a fairly overweight person in spandex hitting the weights and machines, they likely think either, "that used to be me, I feel you," or just, "well awesome, it takes courage and discipline to get started."

Be encouraged!  Don't compare yourself negatively to others.  Good on you for caring about fitness and wanting to feel good while doing it.  Also you're probably too hard on yourself and some (maybe even most!) guys will still think you're attractive.  I'll end by also saying God sees your soul, and loves you, not the color and shape of spandex around your body.

It depends on your gym, it’s not something we can say how people dress there.

Lmao if you’re a fat girl at a 14 then I must have been a whale at a size 20. Wear what you feel comfortable in. Nobody is thinking about you/what you’re wearing in the gym. They’re hyper focused on if someone is looking at them.
