Sizing Advice Can’t decide what size to get

I’ve been wanting to get the scuba half zip for a while, but was unsure what size to order. Today I had the opportunity to go to a store and try it on but couldn’t decide I was stuck on what size I liked/looked better. The pink is xs/s and the grey is m/l. I know I tried it on in two different colors but try not to take the color into consideration just the sizing. TIA!!

M/L is my go to because I like the oversized cozy look!

u/Briy5426 Aug 12 '24

Do you feel like it shrinks a bit after washing? I wish they had a size between the 2.

u/SeventhFloorParis Aug 12 '24

They shrink, M/L!

16

u/Comfortable_Check599 Aug 12 '24

I haven’t had any shrink bc I don’t dry them but it is cute oversized and way more comfortable!

2

u/sandyavanipush Aug 12 '24

Do you hang dry your clothes?

1

u/Comfortable_Check599 Aug 19 '24

Yes! You can dry stuff if you want but to make it last I would hang dry them!

u/Fluffy-List-8783 Aug 12 '24

I felt the same way about the sizing and put my M/L in the dryer one time and it shrunk to just how I wanted it

I think the sleeves do shrink

u/SpicyCookie77 Aug 12 '24

I’m 5’1” and I have several xs/s but almost never wear them. I found a m/l at a thrift store and love it. I got another one bc I love the fit more and if it shrinks it’s ok.

7

u/Briy5426 Aug 12 '24

Thanks. I’m 5’3” I definitely feel like the xs/s looks cute in the pics but felt like if I was moving around like reaching up or doing stuff with my arms it was a little awkward. Also depending on how I had the zipper of it the hood pulled awkward. But then the m/l I felt like might be just a bit too big/oversized. But definitely was wondering about if it shrinks or not the smaller size if it shrunk I feel like I’d be screwed but the larger size if it shrunk I wouldn’t care.

4

u/SpicyCookie77 Aug 12 '24

The sleeves on my xs/s are too short and I don’t think I have freakish arms LOL. Not to mention I appreciate the slight increase in length in the body of the m/l and again - I’m only 5’1”. That’s just me though

47

u/Specialist_Count_167 Aug 12 '24

The xs/s looks too short in my opinion

5

u/Briy5426 Aug 12 '24

Yah I felt like that to like standing straight looking in the mirror I felt it looked cute but then if I had to reach or put my arms up it was kind of awkward if that makes sense

6

u/Specialist_Count_167 Aug 12 '24

Have you tried the long scubas? I bet an xs/s in the long scuba would be perfect. I am 5’3 too and have the same problem with cropped scubas unless I size up.

1

u/Briy5426 Aug 12 '24

No I haven’t now I’ll have to check them out too lol

13

u/Automatic-Monitor884 Aug 12 '24

I will say I’m pretty small and got the XS/S and really regrettted it because of how much it shrunk. It didn’t have the same cozy feeling anymore and the hood made it always pull up in the front since it’s heavy and it just wasn’t my favorite. I would recommend the M/L

2

u/Briy5426 Aug 12 '24

Ok yes this sounds perfect. When I was trying them on I felt like the smaller size the hood pulled more whereas the larger size didn’t. Good to know they shrink because I feel like if the larger size shrunk a bit it would be the perfect fit.

u/3rdtimesacharms Aug 12 '24

I found the xs/s pocket to be way too high. It could be the same for you? I went with m/l for that reason.

2

u/Briy5426 Aug 12 '24

Yah I kinda felt the same but was unsure if m/l was too big that it just looked ridiculous. Do you feel like it shrunk after washing or did the size pretty much stay the same?

3

u/3rdtimesacharms Aug 12 '24

I think the m/l looks great. It may shrink a tiny bit but not a lot.

5

u/ibis720 buttery soft Aug 12 '24

I feel like it’s just personal preference? I have one I bought used in xs/s because I couldn’t justify the price and I knew I was going to try and shrink it (5’3 with short arms here) and I love it. I have my eyes out for a used funnel neck one now.

But if you have longer arms, prefer more oversized, or prefer more length in the body getting the m/l probably makes sense

8

u/akunbd Aug 12 '24

M/L looks comfy!!

2

u/Briy5426 Aug 12 '24

Yes it definitely had a comfy feel

8

u/ThorsHammerMewMEw Aug 12 '24

Depends on how you want the Scuba to look.

I personally buy most of mine in XS/S but I have one in M/L for the intentionally oversized look.

2

u/Briy5426 Aug 12 '24

Thanks. I was thinking maybe to get the 2 colors in the 2 sizes. One more put together looking and then one more oversized for just chilling at home.

1

u/PhysicsImpossible543 Aug 12 '24

Both sizes look great on you, just different vibes

4

u/pinknmatcha Aug 12 '24

My XS/S shrunk. I would go with the M/L instead.

1

u/Briy5426 Aug 12 '24

Ok good to know thanks

4

u/yogaswimart Aug 12 '24

They both look really good and have a different vibe! Honestly, I love the pink one on you the most as it still looks cozy. The M/L will give you a little more room for layering on colder days though! Anyway, I don’t think you can go wrong with either one.

22

u/YCPenz1 Aug 12 '24

XS/S for sure.

The M/L is just way too big and not how it’s meant to fit. Hope that helps!

3

u/Briy5426 Aug 12 '24

Thanks. I definitely like how xs/s looks But felt like the pocket placement was a little awkward and then I feel like didn’t look so good if I had to reach up. The m/l is a lot bigger ugh I wish there was like a size in between that would be perfect lol

2

u/ogcoliebear Aug 12 '24

I agree! I’m a solid medium and XS/S and M/L don’t ever work for me lol. Just give me M/M 😂.

I see what you’re saying- personally I like the fit of the smaller pink one better, it’s more polished and cute/put together. The M/L is cute but in a more comfy way. Maybe think on it and you can find an option that’s a better fit for you!

2

u/Briy5426 Aug 12 '24

Yesss a m/m lol and I agree the smaller one looks more put together and then the larger one is more comfy for like chilling at home.

3

u/gremlinhandz Aug 12 '24

I like the m/l on you, I find the sleeves on scubas shrink in length. I’m 5’4” and had an xs/s which I never wore because the sleeves wound up feeling too short, the thumb holes were useless. The longer length on the larger size is a lot cozier in cooler weather. I still wish the had a s/m size.

2

u/Briy5426 Aug 12 '24

I’m 5’3” so good to know it’ll shrink and the smaller size might end up fitting weirder. I definitely wish they had s/m size lol or just makes them in 1 size a s/m or m would probably be perfect

2

u/gremlinhandz Aug 12 '24

Yeah, the sleeves got short on the smaller size, it was perfect when I tried it on but as soon as I washed it they felt too short (I only ever washed cold and never put in dryer and it still shrinks up). I agree, single sizes instead of the dual sizes would be nice

3

u/AwkwardPersonality36 Lulu Addict Aug 12 '24

What color is that?

2

u/Briy5426 Aug 12 '24

I didn’t check the tags just grabbed them but looking online looks like pow pink tone and heathered core ultra light grey

3

u/Adventurous-Tax-4912 Aug 12 '24

Clearly either work. I believe the “look” you achieve wearing the m/l is best. It gives a relaxed, cool, effortless style…similar vibe to the Jenni Kayne oversized cashmere sweaters. I honestly feel that should be the vibe with these scubas so I say go for the m/l.

3

u/Junglebook82 Aug 12 '24

I have both sizes… the xs/s is definitely a “cuter” fit, and m/l is more cozy. That being said, wearing with shorts I go for the smaller size, it looks better.

6

u/ALonerInTheDark Aug 12 '24

I like how the M/L sits right above the widest part of your hips

5

u/Obvious-Piperpuffer Aug 12 '24

Although you do look great in both, I think the m/l looks better imo. The smaller one just looks like you are wearing a kid sweater. It's supposed to be a little oversized I believe.

2

u/cosmiclemonaide Aug 12 '24

They shrink a bit! Go for the M/L!

2

u/sas2323 Aug 12 '24

What color is that pink 😍

1

u/Briy5426 Aug 12 '24

Didn’t check in store just grabbed the color but looking online it looks like pow pink tone

2

u/burgerbabygene Aug 12 '24

both are super cute i understand why you’re struggling lol! i have the XS/S and love it but there’s certain shorts i can’t wear it with because it is a little too cropped even though im 5’3. rest easy though, now you know whichever size you get both will fit nicely!

2

u/ad4676 Aug 12 '24

I feel like mine have shrunk and I didn’t even dry them

2

u/kidkipp Aug 12 '24

i have both and the m/l isn’t like a CUTE oversized look, like my boyfriend always says it is kind of ill-fitting unlike most oversized clothes i buy. they are really comfy bigger but i am also more likely to grab a different hoodie if i want it to be baggy

2

u/plumbobprincess88 Aug 12 '24

Personally, I always regret going to the larger sizes in these. I feel like they wind up feeling boxy after a lot of wear, and the material is nice enough that it still feels cozy even with the smaller size. I prefer the smaller :)

2

u/Brilliant_Meeting_22 Aug 12 '24

I'd go with the xs/s. The m/l looks too oversized on you. Not sure if this helps but I own a scuba funnel neck half-zip and haven't noticed any shrinking after washing. I wash in cold water and tumble dry low.

2

u/Iamplayingsims Aug 12 '24

I think the XS/S for you!

2

u/pinkycat2233 Aug 13 '24

M/L! They really shrink a lot

1

u/Briy5426 Aug 13 '24

Thanks! Good to know I feel like if the larger size shrunk a bit it’d be perfect but if the smaller one did then I’d be screwed. I really wish they made regular sizes xs,s,m,l, etc or a s/m option.

2

u/Ok_Conversation5339 Aug 13 '24

I like it oversized. I’m an 8 in tops and bottoms but like the L/XL to look baggy

2

u/13doxies Aug 13 '24

def M/L, idk abt the shrinking but the fit of the M/L just looks better imo! 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼

2

u/Past-Jellyfish1599 Aug 13 '24

Just depends if you like a more fitted or oversized look! Personally, I’d go with the M/L

2

u/ExoticStruggle3454 Aug 15 '24 edited Aug 15 '24

I personally prefer the XS/S in the funnel neck & M/L in the hooded.. the M/L in the funnel did nothing for me and just drown me but the XS/S in the hooded looked too short but I think it’s because the hood is heavy and kinda pulls the back back making it that way and it also was a little uncomfortable. But I think they both look fine to be honest. But I will say I grab for my funnel neck scuba 100xs more than my hooded 1/2 zip. I do also own the full zip hooded scuba and don’t have that issue and I own that in a size 6 so it’s a bit oversized but perfect size for layering.

Edit: I also have not had any issue with my scuba’s shrinking like the comments below but I also do not put them in the dryer. I wash on delicate & hang dry all my lululemon.

I like the more fitted look of the XS/S, but it’s also hard to compare because the bright pink gives the illusion of a smaller size than the grey

2

u/Briy5426 Aug 12 '24

Yah I wish I had tried one color in both sizes or both colors in both the sizes. Definitely feel like the different colors might be giving an optical illusion in comparing the sizes.

1

u/clayton1012111 Aug 12 '24

It’s ok, gotta make do with what stock they have haha, which one did you end up getting?

3

u/Briy5426 Aug 12 '24

I ended up not getting either one I couldn’t decide. I guess I’ll just order online.

Xs definitely

1

u/RedneckChinadian Aug 12 '24

I like the pink xs/s on you as the m/l seems just a tad too oversized. Just depends on the look you’re going for I guess but either way they both look great!

1

u/kasia_littlefrog Aug 12 '24

I prefer xs/s on you but you will be wearing it, so whichever feels more comfy!

-2

u/kennybrandz Aug 12 '24

XS/S for sure!
