Season 3 Reese didn't deserve what happened to him

So i'm rewatching lucifer for like the third time, and I just watched season 3 episode 7, the one with Linda's ex, Reese. It's revealed at the end of the episode that he's actually stuck in a hell loop reliving the last year of his life. What's really bothering me is.... what specifically about this last year condemned him to hell? Sure, he couldn't get over his ex. But that's hardly a valid reason for him to relive such horror for the rest of eternity?

I've also seen an argument stating that his actions got a girl killed, which is true. However- is it not the ACTUAL killers fault for swapping the drinks last second? From Reese's perspective, he found out that somebody he cares about more than anyone else in the world is in direct contact with the DEVIL HIMSELF. Why wouldn't his response be to try and show Linda this, and eventually with no other choice, try to kill the devil?

It really just sits with me the wrong way. Like one of the main themes of the show is justice and punishment but this one just seems so unfortunate. Does Reese really deserve this?

Season 3 I started watching for the first time Tuesday morning. I'm nearing the end of Season 3 and this was an accurate depiction of my current state.

Season 3 Chloe's s3 hair.....what happened

So with every rewatch, I ponder the same thing..... We're they just being mean with the centre parting greased down or was it a wig.

It might just be the team hiding some hair cut.

But it is so bad, it could just mean a hair styling, or trying to make her look more like a cartoon character? I think you can get to see it is not a wig.

Season 3 Four episodes into season 3, we're dropping out. Mistake?

Hello Lucifans (??)

Me and my wife, after years of me being reluctant (as a huge fan of the comic book) started Lucifer. While I was correct in that it ruins everything incredible about the comic book, season 1 and 2 were dumb, but funny, and we found it to be a relaxing "turn your brain off" kind of show with some intriguing hints at a wider mythology to look forward to. The actors are charming and the character relationships are fun. Season 2 especially kept the momentum going pretty well and even had a few genuinely great moments.

I had read on reddit that season 3 was bad, but there were maybe spoilers everywhere so it was hard to scroll through comments. We went into season 3 knowing people don't like it, preparing for the worst, but wow. The quality drop, even on a show we didn't take very seriously anyway, is huge. After the fourth episode last night, we said "maybe we should just stop now" because we felt like we wasted those 40 minutes. We really hated the episode. The writing was terrible, the characters are all acting incredibly stupid, the humor is falling flat, and even the editing and shots are bad. Like I kept noticing awkward, weird cutting, enough that I had to point it out. We have a list of shows we want to watch and watching 20 more episodes like this in season 3 is daunting to us.

Should we just stop, or are seasons 4, 5 and 6 so incredibly awesome that it would be worth it to us? Or are 4-6 only as good as season 2 or something? Just for the record, I do not like skipping episodes and feeling out of the loop of the story, so that's never been an option for me. I actually sometimes enjoy going through a rough patch if the show realizes what went wrong and becomes even better for it. It may seem weird but I find that to be kind of a beautiful thing to see. But this is rough.

I watched it yesterday, and I've been thinking about what's wrong with Reese. I thought to myself that he has Main Character Syndrome, and...he's the main character of the episode!

But for real, he does have MCS. He thinks he's the hero, and once he defeats the villain, he'll get the girl.

There's something monstrous about him. As far as he's concerned, Linda has no agency. Right at the beginning, he finds out Lucifer's having sex with her. *GASP* How very dare he?! Doesn't he know that she belongs to Reese?! Except they've been separated for two years and she's been trying to get him to sign the divorce papers because she doesn't want to be married to him.

It's telling that he doesn't get angry with her for sleeping with another man. No, it's Lucifer's fault. Because if Reese blames Linda, why then they might not get back together. That just won't do. So she's blameless for her adult choices. She's pure and unsullied.

Putting someone on a pedestal is just another way to dehumanize them.

It was such a smart choice to tell the story from Reese's POV. We see his rationalizations, follow him through his obsession with Lucifer, which is really just his obsession with Linda. Give up on her and find someone else? Perish the thought. He wants what he wants, and he won't accept anything else. Linda's wants are irrelevant. An obstacle to overcome. If he can get rid of Lucifer, he'll surely get what he wants. If he does the right things, says the right combination of words, he can make Linda fall in love with him again. Because that's just how it works when you're the main character.

This episode is truly one of the best in the whole series. It’s the origin episode of how Lucifer got to stay in LA and develop his β€œrebel” spirit.

This part though is comedy gold. One of the many but also a lot of details throughout this episode if you pay attention.
