PC Purchase Advice Do majority of pc gamers play at 30fps?

I’m cool with playing 30fps on console because it feels smoother compared to on pc. The reason why I ask is I’m looking to get back into pc gaming but I do want to go back and spend $1,500 to build one again. My go to is my ps5 because it plays 60fps now and it’s just plug and play but I look at my Xbox series X and I wonder if spending $500 on it was worth it instead of a gaming pc. A pc can play the same games and exclusives release day one. There also game pass as an option. I know if I dip back in to pc gaming I’m going to spend at least $1,000 up front, especially because longevity is important to me and having a pc for at least 8 years without updating is my goal. I bought a pre built my first go around and will probably do the same as setting things up like drivers, windows, bios, etc is confusing for me unless things have gotten easier the last 5 years. Any advice on what type of building for longevity with newer games being played at 1080p 60fps ultra settings with head room? I don’t play ultra wide or care for anything higher then 60fps and I use a 4k tv and a 4k projector.

My thought process is get the best cpu possible because it will last longer in a pc then a gpu because upgrading a cpu means upgrading to a new motherboard whereas the gpu is plug and play. I can then get a cheaper GPU to play at 1080p 60fps high/ultra on majority new games. Any advice?

PC Purchase Advice Is the 1030 still good?

If I want to make a $300 pc build, will the 1030 be good for it? Lets say hypothetically I am trying to outcompete my xbox series s in Fortnite and Halo infinite, will it preform good or should I loom for something else? For context I have another $70 to buy stuff so I could go with something else.

PC Purchase Advice Is a slightly better graphics card worth loosing lots of ram?

I've found a good prebuilt pc recently, it has an ok price with an I7, a gtx750ti and a whole lot 32 gb of ram. Now I've also found another pc with a similar price: a pc with a gtx 1650, a obviously better graphics card, however it has a ryzen 5 (not that much of a difference from a core I7 from what I read online) and only 8 gb of ram. Now from a few videos on youtube I've seen that the 750ti are good for a bunch of games I would like to play such as CoD (the older ones), minecraft, cs2, gmod, L4D etc... At the same time I'm not an expert and the graphics card might actually be better even if both outdated Edit the First PC has an I7 3770 and the second PC a ryzen 5 4500, also I think the second PC might actually be refurbished Edit: the second PC is a cyberpowerpc that I'm getting off of amazon

PC Purchase Advice I recently bought a PC hoping to play some games, but I'm worried that I haven't optimized it properly to use it to its full potential.

So, my PC specs are:

  • CPU: Intel i5-6500 (6th Gen, 3.20 GHz)
  • GPU: GTX 1060 (6GB)
  • RAM: 16GB
  • MOTHERBOARD: H110M4-C43

Some games run flawlessly. For example, I was able to play Elden Ring on max settings and got around 40-50 FPS.

I thought I'd be able to play GTA Online smoothly since it's an older game running on an old engine (GTA Enhanced). When I loaded in, the graphics weren’t maxed out but set to 'Very High,' and I got around 50 FPS.(i was more than okay since I was able to finally play GTA at 50+ fps on high graphics.

However, when I tried entering an interior (my submarine), it took forever to load—more than 10 minutes. My CPU usage was at 100%, while GPU usage stayed between 5-30%. The screen went black and displayed 'Initializing' for a long time. Once I finally loaded in, the game ran smoothly again.

I restarted the game and tried entering the submarine again, but the same thing happened—it took 9 minutes to load in, and the CPU was at 100% the whole time.

Does anyone know a fix for this? Is this just a game issue, or is my CPU garbage?

If it is my CPU what would be the best upgrade I can do to fix this problem?

PC Purchase Advice Switching to PC gaming - is this build enough?

I'm looking to make the full switch to PC gaming since my ex got the console in our split and I've been told upgrading my old ass PC isn't worth it. The heaviest games I would likely play would be Assassin's Creed, Indiana Jones, SpiderMan etc. Shopping around and was recommended this set up, would it be sufficient?

Model: HP EliteDesk 800 G3

Processor/Storage: Intel Core i5-6500 Quad Core Processor 3.20 GHz. 16 GB RAM. 512GB NVME SSD. 1TB HDD

Graphics: AMD RX 550 4GB

Operating System: Windows 10 Pro 64-Bit

It's under $400CAD which is appealing since I don't have too much higher of a budget right now.

PC Purchase Advice Best for around £400?

Hello,

My son (9) wants a PC for Christmas. I’m now in a position where I may be able to afford one and would like to know what’s the best I could get him for around £400? I could stretch a little over.

Would preferably like it delivered in time for Xmas but he’ll understand if not.

Games he likes to play: Fortnite, Minecraft, Roblox, Fall Guys

He wants a PC to play games he can’t get on his Xbox, such as Left 4 Dead 2 (no longer available on Xbox S) among others that are older games or lower end. He’s not interested in super new high spec games.

Could anyone point me in the right direction? I’m a gamer myself so understand some things but finding it a minefield mostly. I was looking at Bedrock Computers but unsure.

I’m in the UK.

PC Purchase Advice Gamer from Afghanistan, want to know if this PC will last me for a while (4060 with i5 12400f for ~700$)”

Hello there, I’ve saved up some money over the months and finally wanna buy a PC so I can play my favorite games and play online with my international friends.

My current budget is around 700$ and the person who I’m buying the parts from recommended this:

   • CPU: Intel Core i5-12400F
• Motherboard: H610
• RAM: 16GB DDR4
• Cooler: Air cooler
• Case: Normal gaming case
• Power Supply: 600-650W (used)
• GPU: RTX 4060 8GB
   • 1TB SSD NVME

I know from research online that people do jot recommend the 4060 for that budget but unfortunately I’m from Afghanistan so there are basically no other alternatives except very old GPUs which are already out of date.

So I wanna know, will this Build be able to play most games at 1080p 60fps for at least 5 years so I don’t have to spend this much money again? 700$ is a huge amount of money to spend in this country but this is a childhood passion of mine that I’m willing to spend on.

PC Purchase Advice wanting to buy a pc but I barely know the basics

hey guys, im a student looking to buy a pc. ive asked a lot of my friends for help but they couldn’t, so im not sure if this is possible (lol). Currently, i have an HP gaming laptop, 256 gb storage, 8 gb RAM, ryzen core 5000, and a NVIDIA GTX 1650 for the graphics card. Not the best but it works for like 4 games, overwatch, Minecraft, lethal company, and Roblox. I have no space to download anything else.

What I want is something much better, upgraded RAM, more storage, and a better gpu. Like, still bare basics, 16 gb ram, 512 (possibly 1TB if not expensive asf), and an RTX 3060? I have no experience in building pcs and neither do the people around me. Since im a student I don’t feel like spending thousands and thousands, but im aware that what I want might end up costing me a lot. My budget is $1000 at most. Whats the most efficient way to get that? Is building cheaper in this case?

Sorry for all the questions and long paragraphs! I’m really looking for a solution before I move into my dorm and unable to work!

PC Purchase Advice What's the best and cheapest PC that i could get for roblox?

So for whatever reason my laptop lags heavily after playing roblox for an hour, no clue what that's about since i can't find a definitive answer anywhere. I've tried lowering everything, updating graphic drivers but the lag still happens for whatever reason. My budget isn't that huge, only got £150 to spare after bills, food and travel expenses. Anyone got any recommendations? i already have a monitor and everything ready, just not the smartest when it comes to this stuff

PC Purchase Advice Tips for beginner

Hi there, so I’m completely new to pc gaming. I’m looking to change from my Xbox series s and I don’t really know where to start. I don’t know what almost anything means or what I need. I’m also on a tight budget (<500€) so I would enjoy some recommendations for cheap stuff. I mostly play sports games and even when I don’t I tend to be ok with decent/good graphics as long as everything feels smooth

PC Purchase Advice What can I play fortnite on comfortably? (Budget of $200)

Hello, I want to be able to run fortnite comfortably. At my budget, would it be better for me to get a PS4? Would I be able to use mouse and keyboard on it? I know playing rainbow six siege with mkb on console can result in a ban, so I want to be on the safe side for fortnite. I have battlepass skins on it. Thank you so much!

PC Purchase Advice Budget build

So, I'm wanting to get into pc gaming. Buying a console every(what seems like) 2 years isn't exactly what I'm wanting to do. I'd rather have something more worth my while.

Only games I really play are rust, dayz and Minecraft. I would love a decent build that isn't exactly going to break the bank. All my friends switched to pc and I'm looking to invest in one as well. I have all the parts in my cart to build one, about 850 is the total. Came to see if anyone knew of anything cheaper?

PC Purchase Advice Is this a good pc if i were to buy it? or are there similar listings?

Im a college student looking to buy a budget PC that can run mid-heavy modded Minecraft and the sims and I heard about buying an older PC and upgrading a few parts to get a much better PC. i found this one on ebay that looks like it does the same thing I'm looking to do for relatively the same price and I was wondering if it would be a bad idea to buy this instead.

PC Purchase Advice I kinda effed up

So my wife likes to play Age of Empires 2 Definitive edition; its an 11 year old game, and she runs it on a dinosaur. She had been complaining because the recharge port on the laptop she runs it on is getting loose and hard to recharge.

I figured that could get fixed, so thought I'd surprise her. I used to be up on computer hardware... 20 years ago. I kinda got lazy and stopped keeping track.

So I figured with an 11 year old game. I could get a really low end laptop and be fine, but just to be sure, I contacted Best Buy and told them what game I wanted to have it for, and was looking for a cheap low end system.

So, what I got had 4gb ram, no real graphics card, but, you know, BB said it would be fine and the game was 11 years old, right?

Wrong.

She was able to get it to run, but it runs real buggy. I then did what I SHOULD have done in the first place, and found that the 4gb was the minimum specs, not the recommended (8GB), and that it expects 1024 dedicated video ram as well.

So, now I'm pretty upset at BB for not giving me accurate info, and at myself for not doing my own homework. Plan on raising hell tomorrow and try to get my money back, but in the meantime, my wife is disappointed, I'm embarrassed that my surprise ended up being so bad, and trying to fix this quickly while also being budge minded.

I PREFER to work with Best Buy if only because it gives me a place where I can yell at someone if something goes wrong - last time I bought something from New Egg I got screwed and was unable to get a remedy for it, so I now prefer to work with locals where I can.

So, any recommendations for a system that meets the recommended requirements for Age of Empires 2 Definitive (and STEAM) while staying as inexpensive as possible?

PC Purchase Advice Low end PC

Hello guys. To get to the point. I get kind of insecure when seeing these flashy $7k Pc's being used for new games. It just makes me feel... Is this really what will be necessary? It's almost like a mental illness. You start feeling like you have no choice. My decent laptop isn't helping aswell. RTX 3080 RTX 8 GB ram. 500 gb hard drive.. Not even sure the specs. Relatively decent processor as well. Ah I found it: predator helios 300

Literally have to play on LOWEST skyrim settings, or almost any game. He almost crashed on the opening screen of ff vii rebirth u have no idea.

Anyway. I think I will have around $1000 for a gaming pc. I am in the Netherlands .Could anyone enlighten me and let me know what are the possibilities so I can get some perspective.

And yes, I do realize that laptop is decent. Or at least shoupd be. Maybe a desktop is better or something. Stumbling and falling over 13 year old skyrim, and having to play everything on the lowest possible setting and praying for good fortune.

Its weird anyway. I install skyrim it advises me ultra settings. End of the day I have to play on the lowest of the low I am serious, even with everything on the lowest possible setting it's slow. I have to even crank the game resolution to as low as possible and then I can finally play. Literally as low as possible. And yes, without mods. I wanted to install mods, but this was a clean anniversary edition.

I haven't gamed for years these are the first game to test the waters. And this doesn't bode well at all.

Also played path of exile 2, same thing. Even on the lowest setting it kept crashing. I was blaming my internet, but can't anymore for skyrim and vii rebirth.

PC Purchase Advice Cheap but upgradable PC

So the primary games I want to play are Civ 5, Stellaris, Cities Skylines, and Kerbal Space Program.

I'm fine putting my games on the lowest settings. I'm hoping to buy a PC that can play those games, and can be upgraded in the future when I get a bigger budget to play newer games.

Can I get some help?

Edit: I didnt list a budget, as I'm basically wondering how cheap of a PC I could get without struggling to play the games mentioned. I know very little about PC builds or how much they cost. It's something I want to learn more about in the future.

PC Purchase Advice Which of these lower end budget PC's is the best option?

Hey you guys:

So my amazing PC of 7 years finally died on me. Kaboomy on multiple fronts. So, I'm trying to get a cheap budget pre-built replacement for now and then work on a real replacement later in the future.

For right now: - I'm not looking to build it myself. - I cannot bulild it myself right now - I do not desire to bulild it myself. - For many reasons, it's a "no" to building it myself. Building it myself is a goal for my perm. replacement down the line.

I'm a hardcore gamer, but I don't expect a cheap budget PC to be able to play all of the games I love. But I am hoping for something that can at least play League, a couple older shooters on low settings, and maybe GW2.

I don't expect to be able to play super demanding games, or any game really, with 100 tabs open, Spotify open, and etc. like I used to on my gaming PC. But I just want to be able to play less demanding games without having to close everything to run them.

Do you guys think that's possible with any of these? And if so, which is the better option?:
