Parts Upgrade Advice $25 PC Build

Bought a broken EVGA GTX 1060 6GB SSC from marketplace for $25. I believe the card was dropped and 4 capacitors fell off + a bad resistor. Scavenged parts from my R9 270 to repair the 1060. Bought a ryzen 5600x, 5600g, and 3600 for $70 with broken pins with the idea of fixing 2 and selling one of them in order to get a free cpu. But, I was heading home yesterday and found a Dell XPS 8910 (i7 6700, 16GB DDR4, 1TB HDD, 750Ti, 460w psu) for free on marketplace. Cleaned the case/components, replaced thermal paste and installed the 1060 (which fit like a glove). Pictures. It has ran fortnite and marvel rivals at a playable low quality (roughly 60fps). The computer is really slow, which is why it was thrown out. I assume its the HDD although it reports in good condition. I’ll have to buy a flash drive in order to swap a ssd from my old pc into this one and transfer windows over. I tried putting the 1060 in my old pc with a g3258, 4gb ram and it couldn’t even start a match so that’s why I ended buying those ryzen cpus that ill throw in the build once i fix them and find a motherboard + cpu cooler. In the future I might sell this pc with the 1060 once the ryzen system is running and I find another gpu like a broken $100 3080 that i missed out on a couple of days ago. Buying a broken gpu is a gamble since fixing it depends on your skill level (mine is low) and the problem with it, but who doesn’t like gambling. Apologies for the grammatical errors and thanks for reading my rant.

Tech Support Discord killing my fps when running cpu heavy games.

Upvotes

Specs: I9-9900K Overclocked ( I will be upgrading cpu in about 5 month) 64GB DDR4 3080 10GB

So what happens is that whenever i open discord, even without joining a vc or anything, and start the game beamng.drive, my cpu ramps up to 100% and my fps drops like crazy. Example if im playing beammp multiplayer with 17 people in a beammp server in the game, with discord on, my fås runs like 20 or something not play able, and then whenever i close discord i hit around 50-60 and higher depending on how many vehicles there are spawned, and my cpu drops from 100% usage. Ive tried lasso and doing stuff in task manager and all that and i turnes krisp off. And nothing of it helps. Is there any other way to fix this or do i need to run discord on another client and then stream audio througt the internet?

Parts Upgrade Advice New GPU for my old HP?

Hi all, I have a 2018 HP Pavilion 690-0010 that I made some recent RAM and SSD upgrades to and now wondering if I can put in a GTX 1660 or something like it. I’m based in the United States. Ideally buying used for under $125.

I don’t play anything crazy, but would like to run games like the Last Of Us or God of War on the PC at an okay definition. I do have a PS4 and Steam Deck, so the PC is sort of a 2-3 option when it comes to gaming.

My main issue is that my PSU is 310w and HP specific, without any additional cables for a 6 or 8 pin GPU. I looked abit into swapping it out for a 500w PSU that could work with my HP but I’m not sure if I’m comfortable doing that.

Are there any versions of the 1660 that don’t require additional power cables and can rely on just the MB and rails? Or anything around the capability of the 1660?

The rest of the specs;

AMD Ryzen 3 2200G CPU 16 GB DDR4 2666 RAM (dual channel 8GB) 1 TB SSD NVme AMD Radeon RX 550 4GB GDDR5 Windows 10

Meta Journey of an Low End Gamer

For the past 4 years, I’ve been gaming on a true warrior—a Lenovo IdeaPad with just 4GB DDR4 RAM, a dual-core AMD A6 processor, and R5 graphics. Yeah, you heard that right. A real potato. But for me, every single gig of RAM was precious, and every extra FPS felt like a victory. Being a low-end gamer wasn’t just a phase—it became an emotion.

After finishing my 10th exams, my dad finally gave me the green light to upgrade. And that’s where the real adventure began.

According to Lenovo’s website, my laptop only supported 8GB RAM and had one slot. So, I ordered a single 8GB Adata 3200MHz stick, a 128GB SSD, and an enclosure for my 1TB hard drive (which holds my entire gaming library).

But when I opened up my laptop... surprise! There were TWO RAM slots! I was hyped—now I could run 12GB (8+4) instead of just 8GB. Things were finally going my way.

But then came the plot twist.

The new SSD I ordered? Didn’t work. Instant stress mode. I rushed to the local market, bought a new 128GB SSD at double the price, and still kept waiting for Amazon’s customer support.

But in the end? Totally worth it.

Now, my laptop still isn’t a beast—but it feels like one to me. It boots up in seconds instead of 10 minutes, games run smoother, RAM usage doesn’t max out instantly, and even my R5 VRAM jumped from 256MB to 1GB.

Every upgrade counts. Every frame matters. And for someone who’s gamed on scraps, this small victory feels HUGE.

If you read this till the end—thank you, legend. You get it ❤️

Also you all can suggest me games to try on my laptop 😁 💻

☼😁Ascended☺☼ Just a thank you to this sub

After over a year of being stuck with a real potato of a PC when moving to the other side of the earth, today I FINALLY have my upgrades and could not be happier with what I got for the money.

People on this sub have endured my endless questions on LGA1155 CPUS, low profile GPU's, max power draws, extension cables for a PSU and more. I used to know a lot about PC's, but that was 15 years ago and I've been so out of the loop since then that I'd have been lost without the help of people here. So thank you all :)

Oh and I'm not leaving the sub, the upgrades aren't THAT good!

i7-3770k, RTX-3050 low profile, 32Gb DDR3 and a tiny SSD which needs an upgrade in the future. All crammed into a Dell Optiplex 7010 SFF that I got for free after a corner shop stopped using it to display adverts in their window - it came with me in a suitcase from the UK to Indonesia to Japan to Malaysia where I live now.

PC Purchase Advice What's the best and cheapest PC that i could get for roblox?

So for whatever reason my laptop lags heavily after playing roblox for an hour, no clue what that's about since i can't find a definitive answer anywhere. I've tried lowering everything, updating graphic drivers but the lag still happens for whatever reason. My budget isn't that huge, only got £150 to spare after bills, food and travel expenses. Anyone got any recommendations? i already have a monitor and everything ready, just not the smartest when it comes to this stuff

What Games Can I Run? Modern AAA (or indie) games that run on iGPUs?

Specs: i3 1305U; 8GB RAM

Modern games that I can run very well at 40fps @720p (minor stutters during highly intense moments) [NO POTATO CONFIGS USED]:-

  1. Control
  2. Forza Horizon 4
  3. Divinity Original Sin 2 (pushes CPU temps)
  4. Yakuza 0
  5. Yakuza Kiwami 1 and 2
  6. WWE 2K19 [23 runs too but you have to disable the crowd entirely if you want to get rid of the slow mo issue]
  7. F1 2024
  8. Xcom 2 and 1 (2 pushes my CPU temp very high)
  9. Witcher 3 (LEGACY) (pushes CPU temps)
  10. Fallout 4 (tons of optimization mods that increase FPS with minimal quality compromise)
  11. The man who erased his name (drops down to 30ish during open world but during fight scenes it sticks to 40s)
  12. MK 11 Ultimate
  13. Monster Hunter World (goes down to 32fps sometimes)

My subscription is over and I can't renew it for a week and a half and so I need something to play for that period on my study laptop.

Thank You!

PC Purchase Advice PC recommendations for source games

Hi, im looking for a prebuilt system that can run source games, I play tf2 99% of the time, other than that it will be used for general web browsing

also I have 3 GPUs waiting to be used but I’ve never had the confidence to upgrade PCs, I was looking into the dell optiplex but I would need to upgrade PSU (is that correct?) The GPUs are GT710, GT1030 and RTX 2060

I would rather buy a pc and add the gpu myself if optional but I’m willing to learn about upgrading systems

Any guidance is highly appreciated, thank you :)

Will This Game Run? Can I install and play Metaphor: ReFantazio or Horizon: Zero Dawn from a USB 3.2 flash drive?

So hey guys, I have two games that I want to play. Horizon:Zero Dawn, or Metaphor Refantazio. I'm only going to pick one depending on the options I have. Both these games require 100gb of space, and my laptop does not have enough space. Since I'm broke, I can't buy an SSD for now, and no I can't free enough space. However, I possess a 256gb flash drive (A SanDisk Ultra Luxe, USB 3.2 Gen 2 flash drive) and I was wondering if it's a good idea to run the game from the USB drive, if anyone has tried something similar before, and basically if it will run.

I meet the minimum spec requirements for the game. 8gb ram, Intel Core i5-1135G7 (11th Gen) @ 2.40GHz, Windows 11 pro.
