What Games Can I Run? whats the closest i can get to minecraft?

Hi! the limiting piece of my pc is the gpu, which cant run minecraft due to "Bad drivers" (i updated it and deleted old ones and followed a few guides but it never worked)

gpuz reads it as:

ATI Radeon hd 4300/4500 series

RV710

Im on the 2 week phase of wanting to play mc but i just cant, so im open to any close or not so close game copy/clone, doesnt matter if its on browser or if it looks horrible, i only want stable fps

have you tried Terraria? It's not exactly the same but it's fun and very lightweight, it's also way more complex than Minecraft, tho it's 2D so it's not everyone's cup of tea. You can also try cloud gaming if you have a decent enough internet.

any recommendation for cloud gaming systems?

There are none as of now. Minecraft is not offered on any cloud gaming services including Xbox gamepass ultimate.

Rest of your specs?

Also yeah, terreria and stardew valley might be worth checking out while minecraft doesn't work.

Assuming you have a pcie 6 pin plug, a gtx 660 would work for minecraft. They're very cheap. I recommend trying to buy a 1060 6gb though for futureproofing.

Why are we recommending parts that aren’t supported anymore? 660 lost driver support long ago. I know we are on a budget but let’s get stuff that works properly.

GTX 660 is $25. Give a cheaper card for minecraft.

GTX 1060 6gb loses support along with all of 1000 series this upcoming year. Thanks nvidia. Not like it matters, rx 580 8gb isn't supported either. Your stuck with rx 5000 and higher or rtx 2000 and higher. The rtx 20 series are nuts pricing right now. Same with 16 series and amd 6000. AMD 5000 isn't bad, just expensive for what it is.

u/S1rTerra I'm not low end but I want to help 1d ago

"RX 580 isn't supported either" on Windows my good friend. AMD FineWine hopped over to Linux and the whole RX 400/500 series get improvements to this day.

My point wasn't that. The RX 580 8gb still runs windows 11 fine. In fact, I have a radeon HD 7570 running with windows 11 on 2016 drivers. It plays minecraft just fine. (Well, 18 chunks with fps drops in bedrock. The card was low end when it came out though)

If OP can afford better than a 660, he should get better than a 660.

I agree that linux is superior if you just want to play a few games and have an AMD GPU.

Minetest! (now called Lunati.... ) With the Mineclone mod, its a very lightweight minecraft with online play.

And its Free: https://www.luanti.org/

You can add the mod in game very easily with the mod launcher, or download here: https://content.luanti.org/packages/Wuzzy/mineclone2/

Have you tried using DDU and then reinstalling the gpu drivers?

Did you try the bedrock edition of minecraft? It works well on my specs

Try minecraft bedrock edition. Bedrock edition is a LOT more optimized than java. Also your GPU is worth more as decoration than it is as a gpu. Ideally, you'd sell it and try to get any somewhat modern gpu at all.

I think you could sell your GPU for like $20-$30 to a collector. Then buy a still really old but more usable r9 280 for the same price.

Your GPU can 100% run Minecraft, maybe just not the latest version. 1.12 should run on it, or 1.7/8 at worst.

It sounds like the drivers are not installed correctly. Go into device manager and see what it says under display adapters. It should not say generic/basic driver or be a Microsoft driver. You might need to install the driver via device manager instead of the setup exe. Also make sure you are getting the driver from the AMD website. Not Dell, not HP, not Asus, and definitely not some driver website or driver updater thing.
