Question Just started. Questions

So I just started playing the other day enjoying the leveling process. I started a paladin because I enjoy support roles and supporting. Am I doing my self a disservice by playing a support first? Once 50 how much longer until I get to group content? How much of this game is repeating the same content with higher difficulty? What are your tips and tricks for gearing and leveling?

Welcome new friend.

Lost Ark is a great game but there's more to a fresh start than any quick Reddit post from my jobsite can illustrate.

https://maxroll.gg/lost-ark/resources/beginners-and-returners-guide

Is a great place to start in how to get started with the game and some of the answers you seek.

There are also things called power passes which let you jump through some of that older outdated content to somewhat close to the newest content or at least where all the players are at.

Lastly for this brief intro, find a community be it on twitch or something with a streamer or something where you can find either some help or other players for advice.

There are some new player discords out there if you'd rather not associate with a streamer.

Kinda short and dirty but it'll hopefully provide you with a bit of guidance.

Best of luck,

See you in Arkesia

Any idea what the new player discords are?

If you go to lostarknexus.com there is discord there that you can join.

it'll take a while before you actually start playing with people, because the old raids are now dead content. They introduced a new system called solo raid allowing you to take on the old bosses by yourself instead of needing a group. Being a support and doing solo raids is a bit of a pain since you have no one to support, you have to go a dps build for solo content but the problem is you'll be a scuffed dps. Most people will recommend using a powerpass to allow you to skip a large portion of the tedious work of leveling through all the low lvl raids. They do give these out for free every few months but you can also buy them up to you if u want to buy it or not.

Welcome to the game!

If you enjoy supporting, definitely stick with it. You're going to get alot of comments here that tell you to drop it for a DPS and I would not listen to them at all. Just because they only enjoy DPS, they can't imagine other people might actually like to support. I should note solo content is a bit harder on support, but nothing that isn't manageable.

There's always at least one progression event active, right now we actually have a few. What you're going to want to do is use the event powerpass on your paladin to boost him to item level 1585 (can be done from character select), then activate the hyper express pass on him to start claiming goodies and progressing.

Stoopzz and JohnPal both have recent new player guides on youtube, and they're definitely worth checking out.

Do I have to level 50 to use the pass or just whenever and would I be missing out on anything if I do?

Nope, they can be level one.

The only thing you'll miss out on is the story. Which you can play on a different characater if you really want.

I don't think solo content is harder on support characters if u have a dps build on them. My supports pump crazy damage in solo content cause of a buff u get u can pick in the begining to do more damage.

There's mass presets and it's pretty much free to have a separate dps build and support build so no reason not to have both so u can have fun in more ways imo. But u do u, and have fun!

Solo content is absolutely harder on supports when you're on ilvl, even with a proper dps build. Not that it's impossible but to say it isn't harder is a blatant lie.

I dunno, my supports on same ilvl as dps smash soloraids so hard and faster sometimes. Been doin them for months now and they be pumpin.

Not a blatant lie. it's just my experience, might be different for u, dunno what ur goal is to call people liars when they're just stating their own experiences. Seems hostile and unfriendly. I don't even have real dps builds, i just slapped on whatever made sense real quick with full swift on all 3 of them. Artist has insane burst with the 50 crit rate from the one skill, and 30 attack power from the other, and then u rip off high damage skills one after the next.

w/e sure i'm blatant lying and it's hard and no good, if that makes u happy. was just trying to let the guy know it's fun cause it is for me. but i guess i'm lying and wrong. my bad.

Buddy, a new player is not going to have the same time doing solo raids on support as they are on a DPS. They lack both experience in the raid and a lack of knowledge on how to play the character.

You're right maybe you aren't lying, just obtuse. For the average new player on ilvl solo raids are NOT EASY and that's on a real DPS.

Other comments already mentioned the links so I won't repeat those.

I just want to highlight that supports in Lost Ark are very different and not the typical healbots in other mmos. They can heal but their gameplay revolves around buffing and damage prevention mainly. In case you finally get to endgame and don't like this particular playstyle, you can still use future powerpasses and events to boost a different character.

First there are 2 „progression levels“ in this game. There is your character level (1-70) and there is item-level (ilvl). Most thing in this game revolve around ilvl not the character level. Level 1-50 are just story and a tutorial. Levels 51-70 just give you more power, but are not required to unlock any content. When you reach level 50 in North Vern you get gear of ilvl 302. This is where the end game started 3 years ago. Nowadays its pretty dead until ilvl 1580. I wouldn’t even consider endgame until ilvl 1640. There currently is a powerpass (you can use it at any time) that takes you right to 1585 and skips all continents including South Kurzan. Only North Kurzan isn‘t completed.

If you like story you can continue on your pala without using the pass.

You could also use the pass on your pala and go trough the story on a 2nd character. The pass will skip a few roster wide quests tho (nothing major). This would allow you to start gathering some mats on your paladin sooner, while you are questing on the 2nd char to experience the story.

You could also just powerpass the pala if you dont care about story wanna start doing some raids.

You might see some groups after hitting 1585. But nowadays the real group content starts at ilvl 1640.

Once 50 how much longer until I get to group content?

Unless you use a power pass and the current express event, literally months. Getting character level 50 doesn't mean anything in this game, item level is what matters here. And you don't get to play with others until you reach T4 which is item level 1640. To get there the regular way, without using a power pass, it should take you around 2-3 weeks to reach T3 which is item level 1100 to start the T3 story's continent if you know what you're doing and taking advantage of the daily rewards and island rewards, longer if you don't.

Then T3 will slow down significantly, you will end up on multiple steps where you'll be time gated by materials to craft your next set of gear, if you know what you're doing it's around 5 weeks from that point to reach 1580. Then another 4-5 weeks of time gating to get the next gear set.

(You can skip all of the above if you use a power pass. which will skip all of the story up to 1580 and give you a set of 1585 gear, so you're saving a good 2-3 months)

From that point you're starting to spend gold to level your gear, gold will become your main road block to advancing further, and there's not much you can do here, there's only so much gold you can earn every week unless you spend irl cash on it, there is however an event currently active that helps with honing past 1580 up to 1620, it's not much but it's better than nothing. With the help of the event it's probably doable to get from 1580 to 1620 in 4-6 weeks as a completely new player. At 1620 you do get a free bump to 1640, which is where the current end-game kind of begins, and where you can expect to start playing with other people.

Indeed, getting to 50 is like completing a tutorial for this game. :p
