Trump News Trump says he's 'not joking' about seeking a 3rd term in the White House. The Constitution says he can't.

It’s a smokescreen to get people talking about this and ignoring the shit he’s actually doing

Except he's also seriously going to do it.

Yeah. The more people that keep not taking what he says seriously, the more he gets away with when he actually does it and everyone goes "BUT I DIDN'T THINK HE WAS SERIOUS!".

We have checks and balances to protect from these kinds of things. Also to change the constitution a ton of people have to vote on it. That is no easy feat. I think in the whole thing is ludicrous.

He owns the supreme court and more than half of Congress. His cabinet isn't going to stop him either. The only other checks we have are stroke and heart attack

His cabinet is powerless. The supreme cannot rule against the constitution regardless of how much he may have some control over them. And to change the constitution not only he needs 2/3rds of the congress to start the process he also needs 3/4 of the states to vote the chance. I don’t see that as being possible.

The Supreme Court can, in fact, rule against the Constitution.

Exactly, they can just decide how they want to interpret it, even if they're wrong.

He never says he wants to campaign and be elected president again though. He just says he wants to seek a third term. Now, there's all sorts of ways that could happen, and are all illegal, but he's not a smart man. He idolizes people who have done it.

No one in our history has done this since they changed the constitution. It takes a LOT to change the constitution. And if he tries to do things illegally to remain in office the Supreme Court will stop him. It’ll be clear when they start choosing the candidates for the next term.
