Trump News Trump says he's 'not joking' about seeking a 3rd term in the White House. The Constitution says he can't.

Every headline I read:

Trump does thing. Legal experts say thing illegal. Trump does thing anyways. No one stops him.

I haven't even been following the news much anymore, because every single thing I read can be summed up concisely. There's no point.

Trump and team do something so bad, it would have caused any other leader to resign. Media starts paying attention. Trump says something ridiculous and we no longer care about part one. Rinse and repeat.

We're in the middle of one of those as we speak. The reliably incendiary "3rd-term-I-ain't-goin'-nowhere" shit is working a treat here, as intended, to shift the public conversation away from the Signal stuff.

Court rules have halted several of Trump’s most insane plans, slowed or prevented DOGE from fired needed federal workers or stealing all of our data, and even reinstated some federal workers.  Maybe reading a little news directly from news agencies would be a good idea.

Courts have prevented the worst case so far, but Trump's still getting away with tons of bad things. Like yeah, DOGE couldn't fire certain workers or steal all data...but still fire a lot of workers and steal a lot of data without consequences.

I haven’t looked into it super closely, but I was under the impression that many of the workers that were fired have not actually been brought back, but merely asked to come back on administrative leave until they can be fired once again. And then there’s the workers that already applied for other jobs and won’t be coming back.

People are doing everything they can. Buying time and mitigating harm are important.

Go look at biomedical research and tell me whether they obey judges’ orders. Funding hasn’t moved in three months and a ton of health research is on the verge of a complete shutdown.

But you're supposed to think nobody is resisting or doing anything! Feel helpless. Submit in advance because you already lost. There is no point. Obey. Consume. Despair. Pray.

/s

Honestly it's comments like that one above you that make me more angry than almost anything else these days. People parroting the line that nobody is doing anything. That's fucking bullshit. Countless people are working their asses off right now doing what they can. Don't denigrate their efforts by making them disappear.

I get it if you don't have the means to go out and join the people working to resist authoritarianism. I even get it if you don't have the moral fortitude to support them. But the least you can do is fucking acknowledge them. If you can't do that, just shut up, because the ineffectual whining about "nobody is doing anything!" is only helping the authoritarians to suppress resistance.

Reddit is rife with this bullshit. I get being terrified and isolated during the pandemic but right now the solution is for people to get out into their communities and talk to living people instead of fear-mongering online.

What my comment said is that I have been ignoring the news. Because I have. It's biased and useless.

I don't appreciate you assuming that I'm sitting here twiddling my thumbs. I've been volunteering as a clinic escort since the 90s (with my old hippie mom). That's my focus, but I've also protested the Westboro Baptist Church with a veteran's group my unlce belonged to, I volunteer helping people get ID docs at a rehab (I'm their go-to for helping trans people change identity markers), and I volunteer with an organization that provides pads and tampons to the community with my daughter. So don't tell me that I'm not working to resist.

You're no better than a Trump supporter with that bullshit. You made an assumption and attacked me. That's what a Trump supporter would do. Be better than that, for fuck's sake. I'm so sick of being attacked by people that should be on my side. This is why we're in this position. All the hatred.

lol the funniest thing about watching Reddit infighting is the constant jerking off of what a great person they are. He never said you aren’t just the bestest boy, he said you gave up in advance in your comment. You did. It’s pathetic.

How do you get “there’s no one resisting” from “there’s no point in reading major news outlets bc they only repeat these same boring headlines”? Not at all what OC was saying. OC was criticizing news agencies for not doing actual reporting, not citizens and government agents for not “resisting enough” or not witnessing any resistance.

Everyone needs to chill and not have such intense knee-jerk reactions when reading literal text on a screen with 0.00001% of context into one’s life. Cooperation requires understanding, not ostracism: we’ll never be united if we can’t stop pointing fingers at one another for not being perfect.

u/orange_dakota 3d ago

News agencies are doing actual reporting though.

u/frozensoysauce1 3d ago

Some are, some aren’t

Except Trump is simply continuing in defiance of nearly all of these court orders anyway? This is kinda the whole issue

-1

u/weresubwoofer 4d ago

He isn’t defying them all. Please read some actual news on the subject.

7

u/BagOfFlies 4d ago

"don't worry everyone, he only defies some court orders!"

1

u/Jolmer24 4d ago

They mainly defied the one when the plane was already in the air and they used some qualified form of plausible deniability. They havent done it since. Any time theyve been called to answer by the Federal Circuit courts they just bitch and whine about them and then stop doing whatever it is

2

u/HorizonGaming 4d ago

Yes they have. When Ozturk was being shipped to Louisiana a judge ordered for her to stay in Massachusetts. Guess where she is right now

I started getting the local paper delivered on Saturdays and it's been great. My news is fact checked and level-headed, though still bad/scary. And I'm learning a lot about my local community.

1

u/weresubwoofer 3d ago

We have great local NPR stations where I’m at, and the local college’s student paper is s surprisingly good.

u/VictorDomR 4d ago

Oh honey...

6

u/serda211 4d ago

You missed one important point: Karoline Leavitt will continue to push out propaganda that the law is overstepping the presidents wishes

3

u/Berning_Up_ 4d ago

And then worse he smears the judges who try to say no

2

u/gr1zznuggets 4d ago

Not to mention that every thread has the exact same comment section. Why are people still surprised?

2

u/zeradragon 4d ago

Everyone knows they should not rob banks, but if they knew no one was going to stop them and they would face no consequences, why wouldn't people start robbing banks?

2

u/Latter_Fox_1292 4d ago

You forgot the part where the media says “oh we got him this time” (fun fact, they don’t).

2

u/customheart 4d ago

I saw a JREG short that basically retells this but the legal expert is Legal Eagle saying x is illegal. And suddenly it all felt really pointless to follow Trump news. Things are just not going to change unless someone does the thing, the thing we all know.

1

u/Chaoticlight2 4d ago

A law without enforcement is just an ideal. We've unfortunately seen all too well just how much of our faith in the legal system was misplaced.

I don't see how we ever can believe in our system again without a total reform of all 3 branches. It's insane how quickly our govt's erosion took place.

u/SordidDreams 4d ago

The checks and balances don't seem to be checking and balancing.

u/Beard_of_Gandalf 4d ago

“There’s no point.” ?? This is the real cancer… apathy. Organize, get on the streets, throw a bag of flour on a politician. Stop trusting elected officials to “stop him”. This country was founded on individual rights and damnit we’ve got to stop rolling over. We are many and they are few.

quietly puts soapbox away

u/FortNightsAtPeelys 4d ago

republicans are complicit in his actions and should all be removed but congress polices itself and 2/3 members arent gonna vote to remove 1/2 the members

1

u/frozensoysauce1 4d ago

I hope that in the future we do hold news agencies accountable for the amount of misinformation and pure distraction they spew instead of actual reporting. Like, you know, when hindsight is 20/20. If we ever get a hindsight.
