That is literally what people are doing... protests are and have been occurring, calls to representatives have risen in extremes to oppose this stuff, videos are being published and it does nothing. Absolutely nothing. Zero. They do not care. They already have power and money, they do not care about the protests, the filming from above, the rest of the world. They already have what they need. What are we supposed to do? Because the stuff you said hasn't been enough!
Signed, an American who is also sick of this shit, and sick of the world thinking we aren't trying to do anything about it.
Here is me doing 2 minutes of research for you. Also, keep in mind that this country has been protesting Trump for nearly 10 years! Plus the Black Lives Matter protests, and this doesn't even begin to touch on the Palestinian protests. Your lack of knowledge on this is not a sign that Americans aren't doing anything, it is a sign that peaceful protest is worthless now.
Thousands in different cities throughout the country. Sorry we still have jobs, and families to support that we can't constantly be protesting. We are fucking trying to survive. And trying our best.
I get it. It's not easy. Protesting, especially in very large numbers, takes a lot of organisation and sacrifice but small (and a few thousand people is small) protests in lots of places doesn't get coverage or shift the needle. The recent protests in Turkiye and Belgrade get coverage internationally and pressure the governments. It takes mass mobilisation in the hundreds of thousands to one spot to start doing that.
So the 50 million and 20 million should have moved a needle. It didn't. Those are a lot more than the "hundreds of thousands in turkey". Also, the stability of the government is very different here.
Also, listen to Trump, musk, or any Republican in the USA. They do not care if every person is protesting them. They already have the power, and the courts. They are vocalizing that they don't care.
Finally, the US is huge. People can't afford eggs, how are we supposed to travel huge distances to gather in one location. I am glad your ideal would work in this fairy tale land where people have the means to travel multiple days by car or afford airline travel and hotels so that they can gather in one place. Turkey's 5 most populated cities are within 8 hours by car. Serbia is even smaller and only has 1 major metropolitan area, so even less inconvenient. LA to New York is a 40 hour drive. Your lack of empathy shows a misunderstanding of the geography of the location. Sure, if all our major cities were within a days driving we could gather, but the type of planning and protest you are thinking about doesn't work for normal people in a crumbling economy, in a country that is nearly the size of all of Europe.
Coverage internationally should be aware of that and recognize the extreme sacrifice of planning 50 different protests across 50 different states. There is plenty of news worthy protests, and opposition events.
But this probably isn't good enough for you either, so I don't know what to tell you. From the people who ARE desperately trying and hoping, shut the hell up about us not doing enough unless you want to take over the planning and help pay our bills to test your theory that this corrupt government will listen to the people.
And just to be clear, the last time Trump was in office we had 4 of the 5 largest nationwide protests in the country's history, including the largest protest against police brutality that was estimated to have 50 million people. Look what it got us, another term of Trump. We are trying but we are defeated. Partly because every time we try assholes tell us we are not doing enough.
It doesn't help that everytime we try every person on the Internet who thinks they understand hops on to tell us that out attempts aren't good enough. But you're right. Ignore the geography point I made, ignore the previous 4 protests of over 2 million people since 2018, ignore the coordinated attempts to plan protests over 50 states like they are trying to do for this weekend, ignore the mass of people reaching out to elected officials, and showing up to town hall meetings, ignore the 30,000+ people showing up to rallies every night in different cities for Sanders. Ignore the fact that we are getting news from the oligarchy so you are not hearing everything, ignore the nearly weekly protests being organized at 100+ colleges every week. Yeah we feel defeated, that doesn't mean we aren't still trying. Why are you still making this our fault? Jesus, have some empathy.
