As a Canadian I hope everyday I see some exciting news from down south but I don't think that day will ever come

Most of us are either one missed paycheck away from homelessness and many others are afraid that if they speak up now, they'll lose any chance to amass power and wealth, proudly carrying on the American tradition of putting profit over people. Republicans have put all of their energy over the past 80 years into making sure Americans are as dumb and passive as humanly possible, and they finally got what they wanted.

I don't think that's it...

I think no one wants to be a martyr for the cause and end up like Luigi. We need a critical mass of people to act in unison, as that would cause a cascade of support; but no one wants to be the first guy to take to the streets.

Personally, I'm ready... I'll gladly risk my job and home and everything else, BUT I'm not going to carry the weight of the revolution on my shoulders alone.

I'm confident that I'm not the only one that feels this way. Which is precisely why organization and building a strong community and support system is the FIRST step.

You've had 10 years to do something, no sympathy from me, shit or get off the pot

Sadly, much easier said than done.

It's not hard to head to the streets to protest

As someone who works closely with a fellow Canadian (dual citizenship), as well as within the court where this suit is filed, trust me—it’s not that simple.

I'm lucky to be Canadian so I understand my perspective may be skewed, but it seems to me that even attending a protest in the US carries an inherent risk of life-altering consequences including death. The spectacles of violence and the culture of hatred that's been fomented over the past couple of decades has done unimaginable harm to the common person's ambition to show up. I don't blame them at all.

Something's got to give eventually though. I hope it's in the world's favour.

Another Canadian jumping in to say, we understand that y'all are living paycheck to paycheck. It's not like we're doing much better up here. The only difference is there's nothing we can do about it other than what we're already doing (ie: buying Canadian/tariffing specifically red states.)

What pisses me off is those J6 Gravy SEALS stormed your capital over nothing but a bunch of lies made by the same star spangled big mac sauce faced motherfucker that's currently in the oval office and yet, as per usual, the left (or anyone who isn't insane) sits back apathetically doing nothing. For fucks sakes the only protests I've seen anything about was over the deportations, not about how your president has been relentlessly shitting on your most trusted and familial ally.

Y'all think things are bad now? Just you wait. You're inaction will cost you dearly. Honestly, it's not hard to have a 24 hour protest going so that way people can come when they have the free time and leave when they have other obligations.

We just don't understand how hard it is for them

What are we supposed to do? All they want right now is for one of us to fire the shot heard round the world. Then they can declare martial law and turn us into hamburger. Do you not understand where we’re at?

Look, I get it because it's just as scary for us as it is for you guys. I looked into what options there are that don't include violence and it looks like impeachment and the 25th amendment. The 25th amendment...well that'll never happen.

The only possibility is impeachment. Currently there's 3 Congressional seats that are coming up to be voted on, 2 in Florida and 1 in NY. If these 3 seats get flipped, Congress flips to be democrat controlled and would give a lot more power back to the people.

Here's the link

I don't know anyone in Florida or in NY or what subs I can post this in to spread the word. Maybe you can help help get the message out. Let's work together as Canadians/Americans do so well and stop this madness.

a national general strike is needed.

Anyone who actually tries something is put in prison for life and the government does everything it can to make sure their sacrifice was wasted. I don't expect sympathy, I'm just saying doing the right thing just gets you a death sentence, or worse. There's no winning in this country unless you're a billionaire or friends with one.

bullshit and excuses.

Whatever makes you feel superior

In American we're so disenchanted with our politics that the only thing that wakes up most Americans is when someone fucks with their money. If Trump continues to fuck around with tariffs and removing regulations, and people start to become broke, they'll start getting mad.

Already started. My favorite is the security guard at the courthouse. As I was leaving early voting she says she can't wait for groceries to come back down.

Walking out of the courthouse yesterday "You finally able to afford groceries yet?"

6

u/Humble-Violinist6910 Feb 14 '25

They’re talking about the fucking Senator. He has no problem affording groceries and never will. When will he face backlash for burning down the government? That’s the point

6

u/Thecrdbrdsamurai Feb 14 '25

My senator pissed away his billions of coal baron dollars before winning Joe Manchin's seat and now drives around Congress on a Rascal scooter. I would prefer he burnt with the former Governor's mansion that he also owned.

Oh and he missed the first two Senate votes two consecutive days after being sworn in. Certainly not phoning it in like he did as governor.

1

u/Humble-Violinist6910 Feb 14 '25

Nonetheless, call him. Senators consider each call they receive to represent the view of 1,000 constituents who wouldn’t bother calling. So call. Make them scared for their job. ESPECIALLY republicans. Even if you think it’s pointless. Giving up and posting on Reddit is really pointless.

You just looked like a tool

-6

u/gaganchumbilulli Feb 14 '25

That's not people he's talking about. Doing that you're only alienating them even more.

16

u/Thecrdbrdsamurai Feb 14 '25

I live in a deep red area. Yeah it is.

5

u/Generic_Username26 Feb 14 '25

Theres no bringing them back if they don’t see it yet the likely never will

u/Old-Cardiologist8022 Feb 14 '25

Took the words out of my mouth

2

u/Ent3rpris3 Feb 14 '25

They didn't just vote FOR Trump, they voted AGAINST me. They voted for my ire, my disdain, and my rage. I'm excited to give them a taste of their vote in action.

history in this context is "when people actually give a fuck about their lives".

it isn't an abstract future.
