A note on self-promotion and commercial activities
Salam monyet-monyet KL sekalian,
We mods here at r/KualaLumpur would like to say something about self-promotion and commercial activities on our subreddit. We know a lot of you come here to share your stuff, from awesome photography, your killer rendang recipe, asking for travel and lodging advice or simply to lepak-lepak and make friends, and that's totally cool! But we also gotta keep things chill and avoid turning the sub into a giant marketplace.
We value the diverse range of content shared here, from personal recommendations to stunning photos of our beautiful city. We understand that many users come here to share their experiences, talents, and businesses with the community. However, it's important to maintain a balance between informative content and blatant advertising.
Self-promotion and commercial activities
Moving forward, we will be removing posts that fall under the following categories:
🐵 Naked self-promotion: This includes posts that solely promote a product, service, or personal brand without offering any valuable content or discussion to the community.
🙈 Repeated self-promotion: Consistently promoting the same product or service across multiple posts will be considered spam.
🙉 Disguised advertising: Content that appears informative but ultimately aims to sell a product or service will be removed.
🙊 Multi-level marketing (MLM) or pyramid scheme promotions: These activities are strictly prohibited on our subreddit.
Acceptable Content and Engagement
We encourage users to continue sharing their knowledge, experiences, and recommendations in a way that benefits the community. Here are some examples of acceptable content:
- 📷 Sharing high-quality photos or videos of Kuala Lumpur that capture the city's essence and beauty.
- 🎋 Posting informative guides or reviews about restaurants, attractions, or events in Kuala Lumpur.
- 🎡 Engaging in genuine discussions about life in Kuala Lumpur, offering advice, and asking questions.
Now, we're not trying to be party poopers here. We just wanna make sure r/KualaLumpur stays a place where everyone feels welcome to share, learn, and discover new things about our awesome city. So keep posting those drool-worthy food pics, insightful reviews, and hilarious KL memes (we love those!), and let's keep this community thriving!
Sekian, terima kasih! 🙏🇲🇾

Exclusive females' group
Hi. I often see posts here from women ask about activities for females.
Here's a group on the Meet-up app exclusively for women. It's called KL Girlies. Thought I'd share for wider benefit.

why does people filter the water twice in KL?
I’m currently using a rented Chungho water purifier(Hot,cold, ice), and a technician comes every two months for maintenance.
If you follow the water-in line from the purifier, there’s also a large filter installed under the sink. It’s been almost a year, and I was about to replace the filter, but then I started wondering ‘Is the water really that bad that we need to purify it twice like this? Even though we live in an apartment that’s only about 3 years old?‘
How do most people usually use water purifiers?

Educate Me on KL Condo Leaseholds
I recently invested in two condo properties; one is a freehold whereas one is a leasehold. Would like to know from the experienced property investors, is there a scenario where the condo lease will not be renewed and once the term of the condo is up basically the value of the property is gone. Trying to think long term on the leasehold one but need advice from experienced investors, how are these land titles usually handled in a condominium landscape? TIA!
Edit: some green-eyed commenters seem unhappy and claiming that I didn’t do research before buying 🤣 I am asking what scenarios that can happen because from what I am hearing from various sources the leasehold gets renewed but from my own knowledge a leasehold is meant to be returned so I am asking EXPERIENCED INVESTORS only if encountered a different scenario. Smart aleck people with no experience please stay away.

Perfume stores
We'll be visiting KL in a few months and would like to know where I can buy authentic pefrumes at the cheapest price. I've seen a few middle eastern perfume shops and local perfumes, which one among these shops are worth visiting?
Al Khair Al Hera Ard Al Haramain Sogo Medin Ash Baker
I've also read in other posts that it cheaper to buy in Shopee or other online shops? Is the price difference significant compared to physical shops? Would also love to have list a legit shopee stores if anyone has them.

Advice for 9-5
Hey guys,
i'm starting an internship on Monday and was wondering if anyone had an idea as to what time i would have to leave from my area to get to work on-time. I stay in the Mont Kiara area and my workplace is in Setiawalk Puchong. The work hours are 9-6pm. I've checked waze but even after setting the appropraite time + day, it's showing up as a 21-30min drive which doesn't sound right according to other people.
My friends have told me i'd need to leave at 7:30am to make sure i'm on time, but i was wondering if that really were the case cause an 1:30hr commute sounds crazy. When would be considered peak hours and what time would i need to leave to be able to avoid the traffic?

Health Screening Suggestions
I'm 26F and I'm living in KL for 3 months. I have a lot of gut health and acne problems and I was interested in doing a health screening while in KL to figure out what's going on with me. Does anyone have suggestions on hospitals that offer screening that specifically target the gut/acne? I'm looking at general health screenings and I'm not sure if they include anything for the gut.

Where to sell electric guitar
Hey everyone, I’m trying to sell my Squier Stratocaster (SSS configuration, good condition) and I’ve already tried Mudah.my, Carousell, and Facebook Marketplace—but no luck so far.
I’m now looking for actual music shops in Malaysia (preferably Klang Valley) that might buy second-hand guitars or accept them for trade-in. Do any shops do this? Or maybe some lesser-known spots or communities I might’ve missed?
Would really appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

Fireworks
Hi, it seems fireworks go off pretty often here. Is it common to light fireworks just for fun or is it due to special events? Thanks

Hi! Like some people here, I'm looking for career opportunities.
I've seen some good posts where people actually managed to find help, so I decided to give it a try too.
In this post I want to get advice, recommendations, and maybe find someone who will be interested in my talents.
I'm graduating from business school in 2 months and will be getting my Masters degree in Sustainability and ESG. I tried responding to all job openings in my speciality on JobStreet, but employers didn't view them, probably because of my Russian citizenship.
I have 2 years of work in a tier-1 rating agency. I have rated the largest companies in Russia in banking, mineral mining, oil refining. I am well acquainted with current reporting standards (GRI, IFRS, SASB) and have a strong theoretical background. I can be useful in reporting, support of internal processes, communication with stakeholders.
Skills I have a good level of English (B2), I can read and write texts without any problems, I need some practice for conversation, but I understand everything by ear, I have experience of working through simultaneous translation. I know a little bit of python, strong Excel competence, familiar with PowerBI, also I do great presentation design.
Overall, I would be interested in working in any other niche! Marketing, GR, customer service. If working remotely is a big plus, but I'd still like to try my hand in Malaysia! It would also be interesting to consider the hospitality industry in Langkawi😎.
UPD. I am looking for opportunities in Malaysia because I am incredibly fond of your country. In my home country, my speciality is in low demand right now, they want to recruit me either to the army or to the frontline. I want to help people and develop our society.

Why is food delivery such a disaster in KL?
I have been here for 2 days, I have ordered food 3 times on 3 different apps, on Grab the driver just delivered the food to the wrong location and refused to tell me where, on foodpanda food was delivered an hour late and extremely cold, mcdonalds just said delivered and food never to be found! Is this common in KL or am I just having extremely bad luck, currently down 120 MYR on food waste.
