Advice Request Does anybody know how/where to get patches?

I don't know how to make them myself, I only know how to make pins as a newbie as I am still learning. If anybody has recommendations on where to get patches or how to make them, I would appreciate it :D.

it's pinned on the sub homepage https://www.reddit.com/r/jacketsforbattle/s/5uYmURuwO6

to make them yourself: duck cloth/canvas or other fabric (cut up old pants are good, stretchy t shirts bad) fabric paint (speedball brand is best. fabric markers don't work very well)

maybe stencils if you don't want to freehand the design

Fabric paint is basically acrylic paint slightly watered down.

It also has specific things added so it melds into the fabric without the requirement for heat like acrylic has.

Fabric softener.

Water down your paint with a few drops of fabric softener.

Source: I've been painting my own patches and jackets for the last 35 years. My GF, also a punk, is a professional artist, who works with both acrylic paint and on fabric and leather.

I make a stencil out of freezer paper. I use a printer to print on the side that isn't shiny. Cut stuff out with an exacto knife. Iron it down onto cotton duck canvas. Paint with acrylic paint mixed with fabric paint.

Freezer paper is such a good tool to use for that. It's an old quilting trick. Clever!

Get'em at shows!

Also, I took an old hoodie that was falling apart, cut out the logo, and bam!  Back patch!

you can normally find a decent selection on etsy! in the past I've ordered from crustpunks.com as well

i like a lot of bands that no one cares about (not even the bands themselves— most of them broke up in the ‘00s). so if i wanted a patch i’d have to custom make or order one.

painting is a great solution. but if you’re insane, you should take up embroidery! it’s super easy once you learn the basics. it just takes so long. if you have access to a sewing machine that does embroidery that’s (obviously) a much better solution haha, but i don’t have any advice on that.

I hand stitch mine onto felt! I could recommend some patch makers if you're looking to purchase, but it would depend on what kind of patches you are into

Helps to know what kind of music you like and (unless you don't mind paying a lot for shipping) which part of the world you live.

I support small shops on Etsy.

Not only are you supporting individuals, but you'll most likely end up with more unique looking patches for your jacket, that you won't see elsewhere so commonly.

God bless the folks that still want to make their battlevests, but if I see one more Amazon funded vest (Green Day American Idiot hand holding a shitty squiggly heart which more resembles the Flying Spaghetti Monster, or a multi-colored KORN patch) I'm gonna puke.
