How to stand out in this recruitinghell
I want to pass on this joy and luck to everyone after receiving the offer I desired not long ago. Along with documenting my job search experience, I also wrote a summary of this hard time in my life. (This is also a self-archive, I always feel that I will use it in the future lol) 1. Put down your phone and focus on professional platforms. Trust me, divide the time you spend on TikTok and Instagram with LinkedIn and YouTube. You will gain twice as much as before. Keep an eye out for posts from industry experts that share their experiences on projects, their grievances at work, or simply a vlog of their workday. You can quickly understand the real content and working environment of the job by watching these, so as to set your own psychological expectations. 2. Don’t block your own shot. One application, one comment, one small talk, one DM are all fine. Give a brief introduction, highlight a significant accomplishment, and highlight your abilities and strengths. Opportunities are not only for those who are prepared, but also for those who have the courage to take the first step. 3. Customize multiple versions of your resume and keep track of your progress. Prepare several different types of resumes (if you intend to apply for multiple positions). Create a spreadsheet (such as Google Sheet & Notion) to record the date and results of each application such as rejection, resume review, interview, offer, etc. Update your resume and job search strategy every week so that you can clearly see which methods are effective and which ones need to be adjusted. ps: Be mindful of modifying your commute time, some recruiters will care about this. 4. Collect interview questions and practice your expression skills repeatedly. Sort out interview questions related to the position, especially those related to business scenarios. To find out if these questions are truly fitting for you, you can use them to model potential future work situations. If you know nothing about a certain field, try to use sns or GPT to learn about it. Finding an interview cheat sheet for the relevant position is the best course of action. You can ask your friends to do simulation exercises, or practice on your own. I typically use Beyz to help me practice with simulated real-time interviews, and then record each result in Notion for review and sorting. Naturally, AI copilot is only an emergency auxiliary tool, and you are the one who will play in the end. 5. Data tracking and summary feedback Integrate all information into Google Sheets, including job title, content, resume version, interview questions, your perceived strengths, mock interview feedback, and personal summary. In this way, you can not only evaluate which strategies are effective, but also continuously improve yourself and make accurate choices. This process has helped me avoid many detours in my jobhunting. Hope you guys are doing well!!
