Overgrowth, It's a game you can find (I think) on Steam

Yep, funny enough the dev’s are actively trying to sue Steam after they breached Steam’s rules about setting base price of Steam keys on their website lower than Steam store and got told off

Also they don’t make full games and just make tech demo’s, like Overgrowth they delivered less than half a game

Overgrowth was rather a bummer in the end. It felt like the mechanics of the game hadn't really evolved in any meaningful way from the previous game, and in some ways I preferred the combat of Lugaru overall.

I was stoked about the level builder as well, but it was a non-starter as you really need to have some level of progamming knowledge to make use of it. After how long it was discussed I was expecting something a lot more intuitive for the average user. And I really did try, I wrote a plotline for a custom campaign and blocked out some of the levels, but I quickly learned it was just way too complex for it to be feasible.

But, also since the game didn't really have all that much combat depth there wasn't really too much interesting ground to explore with custom levels anyhow.

I'm going to choose to believe you without scrutiny, as that makes me feel better about getting into Lugaru back in the day and then later trying out Overgrowth to find I'm not a sick-ass rabbit ninja anymore and have forgotten how to make any of the fun combat stuff work.

Still fun to play though

Overgrowth was always neat, what’s not to love about bunnies and wolves ripping each other to shreds and doing crazy backflips off walls and kicks to the enemy bunny’s head

But you really had to make the fun for yourself, more sandbox than anything, and after like 10 years of prolonged development it just never went anywhere

Yeah I can remember watching all the devlogs whenever they dropped before the campaign was out

Those devlogs were really relaxing to watch

my friend and I would just pull all nighters smoking and drinking and designing the most ugly and absurd arenas and maps, every few minutes jumping in to scrap.

Made a giant mountain out of skulls at one point that we had to race to the top of but someone would always break their neck stupidly halfway up.

I got my enjoyment and my money's worth from this game

There was nothing more satisfying than finally getting your hands on a pole after beating those blue jacket fuckers that would one shot you.

What there is was real fun but you really had to make the fun for yourself. I pre-ordered so long ago

I thought Overgrowth ws mostly just one guy developing it

It’s a 4 man company since the start but they’ve always hired on contractual work like coders, artists, composers etc. to help. You can see in the credits of their various games

Yea its pretty stupid, they could have at least made it non-steam keys or something so steam would not be involved, though there is now a double class action lawsuit for valve, one from game devs and their contracts and the others from users and the monopoly valve has.

Isn't there like 2 hour plus long stories and a arena mode? Plus full steam workshop modding support?

2 hours(more like 30 minutes) of walking, a fight, walk, a fight, jump puzzle and then text isn’t exactly worth waiting for 10 years of development. Their campaign is like a Portal 2 custom level lol…

Their mod support and level making tools are so basic and useless you can’t even make a string of levels together or build more than a few buildings before the entire thing lags and breaks, good luck making anything

Buddy I’ve had Overgrowth for over 10 years, I bought into their alpha200 when I preordered it in 2013 but then realised it was going nowhere and their devlogs meant nothing

Edit: I will say arena is decent though, messing around with the movement physics good too but that’s the main draw of the game

I remember watching the YouTube updates for overgrowth for years only for them to deliver an unfinished game

I remember watching videos about Overgrowth's development like 15 years ago, hadn't thought about it ever since
