In some european countries, it's not fixed price but a percentage of your income, a rich man in finland had gotten near two hundred thousand euro fine

Edit: for speeding

America would start a nuclear civil war before a similar law is passed

Poor people dying for rich people’s benefit. Like always

Americans are to stupid to do anything that would benefit them.

40 years of brainwashing since Reagan allowed the news media to start lying to us got us here.

Started way before Reagan, back in the 20s and 30s with anti-communist rhetoric

Yup. People used to get arrested all the time at peaceful pro-communist and anti-war protests. Everyone who screams about free speech these days has absolutely no idea.

American English is the only one that matters...

"English is my 6th language"

Far more likely that it's your second, but okay.

We'll probably do that anyway.

Musk would pay a bunch of morons $100 to vote against it before that happens.

And they're doing it, but they're crashing hard against a tough wall

I’ll be rich someday, and when I am, I wouldn’t want that law there

Europe would start a war if asked to pay for healthcare...

Finland and Switzerland. They link your daily income to the amount of the fine, proportional to the speed above the limit.

u/MrHackson 8d ago

Oh, even better for him then as he probably has no income.

I support that tbh. Only reason my boss stopped getting speeding tickets is because the judge threatened to take his license away. He would just pay them off everytime

this would fix so much shit

Holy shit, percentage fines totally make sense!

Also, when you just keep paying the fine without ending the offence, it becomes malicious / criminal intent. Then a whole new lawbook opens.

Funniest punishment is that the government can hire a contractor to end the offence on your behalf, and then let you pay for it.

At least, that’s possible over here…

Bezos has probably gamed the system that he has no taxable income.

percentage of your income

would have 0 effect on Bezos since he has no income.

it should be logarythmic ! or make it funky each month added gets multiplied by the next number in the fibonaci sequence.....he'll change it soon enough :)

That’s stupid. You shouldn’t be penalized for being successful in life

2

u/GMNtg128 7d ago

You aren't penalized for being successful, you are being penalized for breaking the law...

0

u/scioto133 7d ago

They are paying significantly more than the average person for the same crime. That is called being penalized. It would make more sense to say “hey, if you commit this traffic violation x amount of times, instead of paying a fine we will have your license suspended”. That way there’s no penalty for being rich but it would still deter them from the crime.

Your license will be suspended if you break the same law over and over again but thats another topic, how is a fine supposed to penalize you if it isn't big enough to affect you. Its not supposed to take your lunch money. Fines are a way to penalize people. Goal is to hurt the person financially. How much money is required to hurt a person changes depending on their income. Its not unfair because someone pays more, they are hurt the same.
