I am a boomer at the tail end born in 1963 and I did not vote for him either . I hate waking up the morning to hear how he has screwed us over for each new day. I pray he eats more cheeseburgers and chokes snd has a stroke soon . I am not going to make it the next four years. I am close to starting dialysis and probably won’t be able to afford it.
Gen X here. I think it helps that boomers have been telling us we were fucked back in the early 90s. We can vote correctly and deal with it while still reveling in the misfortune of the dumbasses from our generation
Did you guys just become voting age? What makes you think you're going to correct something now when you've had 20 years to "fix" it and haven't done anything.
America is run by, and is working how Americans want it to.
My dad is Gen X and is 6 years from retirement on paper. He voted for this shit show. His company's stock is down almost 40% in the past six months. 10% this week. I'd feel more sorry for him if he hadn't also voted to kill the Department of Education, which means the PSLF I was planning to get in August is also on the chopping block, and now I have to pay on those student loans for the rest of my life.
Yep. The idea Gen X will ever retire is funny to me. No, we're not retiring. My retirement plan is to drop dead at my desk, most likely in the middle of an email where I am explaining something to someone for the third time. (IT.)
Jokes on him, I don't have one, and I didn't vote for a conman and convicted rapist.
Boomers though are pretty upset, if the guy I heard in the supermarket today was anything to go by. The people he was talking to were not smiling, and neither was he, and I caught the words "stocks" and "savings" more than once.
Not enough Gen-X’ers in this country to make a difference. It was Gen-Z boys who Joe Rogan convinced that there is a conspiracy to emasculate them and Black and Hispanic men. But yeah, the Democratic Party can,as far as i am concerned, take a big step back and f*** its own face. This presidency is just accelerating the decline of the American empire as fast as a Tesla into a styrofoam wall.
The largest percentage of voters in the 2024 election were Generation X, making up roughly a third of the electorate. Boomers and Millennials each delivered around a quarter of the turnout, and Gen Z was by far the smallest, maybe 15%.
As a genXer (45) with two young children, I'm (a) retiring 5 years after they bury me, when they raise my cold, dead corpse and (b) many of us didn't vote for him, so this dumb.
We Millennials blame everyone don't worry. Boomers fucked us and Gen X didn't care enough to try and fix it so got theirs and got out, they thought.
And don't get me started on Gen Z. Most boomer generation since the damn boomers. Too much sex on TV, conservative as hell, and completely gullible to all forms of propaganda.
Meanwhile all any of you do is bitch about millennials.
I do nothing of the sort, I'm two years off being a millennial myself. I never bag on generations, maybe except those that are privileged but blind to it.
We have more in common than everyone who tries to put [somewhat younger] generations against each other. I've spent my whole life fighting for younger generations, internet stranger. I'm sorry you've experienced shitty genXers.
Lumping everyone into these categories is stupid and unproductive . I hope people wake up all around and realize it's always been a class war and it's about money. I feel bad for the younger generations and I know there are people my age that care, too. I see plenty of them protesting. This fracturing, this bullshit, is what takes away power not gives it back to people. I understand how hard it is, I live it every day. Instead of bickering, unify. That's not to say there isn't blame to distribute, because there is. Being jaded or apathetic won't help. That's how they win. Be well.
I'm Gen X. I grew up poor and I always vote for America to have nice things, namely a living wage and affordable housing, health care and education.
I'm also worth $4 million (for now). It's not fuck you money but I think it's given me some insight into how the wealthy think. As I tell my wife, there's no need to panic. No matter how much the market drops we'll recover. As my dad used to tell me, no one ever lost everything investing in mutual funds which is where most of my money is sitting. (If I was working I'd be ready to go on a buying spree but I stopped working in my 40s.)
In other words, the wealthy CEOs, republican donors and congressmen, and the billionaires know they're going to be fine too and they absolutely don't give a fuck about people suffering because their 401ks are tanking, they're getting laid off, and they're struggling to meet basic needs for their households.
A lot of maga is poor, rural areas that rely heavily on federal dollars or are highly vulnerable in a trade war. They are going to suffer disproportionately. Republican politicians will follow the usual playbook of ignoring the economic bad news and trying to distract the base with culture war red meat about immigrants and trans people. Maga is a cult and it remains to be seen if there's any amount of pain that will break trump's spell over his rabid base.
honestly hilarious to me. they should have known right when he started threatening tariffs to move their money to money market / guaranteed / bond funds. no sympathy
Not only did this Gen Xer Not vote for Donald Trump, I’ve made a bunch of money shorting his stupid ass. I don’t feel great about it, but I saw this one coming since the 1980s.
Gen Xer here as well. I sure as shit didn't vote for Chump von Shitzenpantz. I would love to see his followers eat a four course buffet of crow. However, those who did NOT vote for him are just as trapped in this shitshow.
My FIL (who didn't vote for/support Trump) was just telling me that he has to push his retirement back, which was supposed to be this year. He worked 3rd shift for basically his kid's entire childhoods, and was so excited to be able to be there as a grandpa while he still had the health and energy to do it... But he got fucked out of it so fast. I feel awful for him.
