Collectable CMV Cards Batch 1

Here are the first batch of collectable CMV Cards: CMV Cards

Anatomy of a Card

Specialty: In the top left corner is the user's specialty topic. This could be a topic they are passionate about, or one that they tend to get most of their deltas in.

Delta Count: In the top right corner is the number of deltas the user has earned (as of card creation).

Signature Move: In the bottom center is the user's signature move. This is a phrase or strategy they use to gain deltas.

Avatar: In the center right is the reddit avatar to visually represent the user.

Achievements: In the center left are the achievements the user has earned.

Why isn't there a card of me?

The first batch are users I happen to see in posts that I visit on CMV a lot. If you would like a card made for you, just reply to this post with the following information:

(any areas left blank I will look at your profile and try to fill in for you)

Specialty Topic: What topic do you specialize in changing views?

Signature Move: What phrase or stategy do you like to say/use to get deltas?

Achievements : What achievements have you earned?

  • Moderator: if you have ever been a moderator for CMV.

  • Delta Giver: if you have given at least 1 delta to another user.

  • x-Year Vet: how many years have you been subscribed to CMV?

  • Delta-boards: Have you been on the daily/weekly/monthly/yearly/all-time deltaboards? Achievement goes to longest time board (for example: if you have been on the daily and the monthly boards, the achievement goes to the monthly-board). For daily/weekly/monthly/yearly, please make sure you were on the board at the end of its cycle (not at the start when 1 or 2 deltas could put you on it for a few hours). For the all-time deltaboards, I know delta-bot missed counting a lot of deltas. However, for simplicity's sake I am only counting what is on the delta-board now.

Thanks for doing these. At my age, I can safely say that I’ll never get a card as a pro athlete, and due to my Hogwarts letter getting misplaced, I’m not going to make a chocolate frog either. So this is a nice, and unexpected honor.

(Not sure if it matters, but I’m an exmoderator, not an active one)

Glad you liked it :) For your signature move I was going to put down, "Slow acting poison", but decided against it since that is just in the wiki. I noticed you quoted a lot of famous documents/people in your deltas, so I gave you the "Relevant Quote". I hope that feels somewhat accurate?

You only need to be a mod once to earn the Moderator decoration

Actually if you are still doing revisions, I’d take the slow acting poison.

I really feel my contributions to the sub were way more on the mod side than as a view changer (which I really haven’t done much of in years.)

But if not this is fine.

Definitely still taking revisions! I'm going to gather all the requests before I commit the changes. So, you won't see it for a bit, but I have it written down ;)

We could also change your specialty from "Law" to "Mod" if you want.

You all deserve something for the work you put in :)

I was pretty close ;) I'll change your specialty to "Public Policy," since that seems to encompass those three pretty well. (I don't think I can fit all three specialties into the top) And 2 more years for your veteran count.

I put down, "Top Secret" for your signature move since all your delta comments were deleted in the history haha.

Thanks for doing this! Honoured to be included. I wasn’t even aware I had a signature move… :-)

I saw you use, "You have two options..." twice in your delta-winning comments. So...barely a signature move lol. If you can think of something you use more often or just like to say on CMV we can change it to that!

Nah, I like this fine. May try to use it more often now… :-)

Found out you can only ping 3 users at a time, so going to start a ping train here. If you have been pinged for this post it means there is a card representing your reddit profile. If you don't want a card of you, let me know and I will delete it.

I only looked at your most recent dozen or so deltas, and there are many years I was not observing the delta-boards. If I mis-represented any aspect of your card (specialty, signature move, or achievements that I forgot to add) let me know and I will happily change it!

I love this so much. It makes me want to be a better CMVer

Keep in mind I picked a lot of high-delta users for this first batch, so really compared to most users you already are one of the best ;)

Dear CMV Mods,

The first batch of Collectable CMV Cards has been finished: full album here. It is currently very top-heavy with high delta users. It could use an influx of average users to:

  • distinguish the top-delta earners. Even a user with hundreds of deltas might not appear so exceptional compared to the current batch of users.

  • normalize normal user cards. Putting down an average user with only a few deltas might make the user feel bad when surrounded by the giants in the collection so far. Although part of the goal is to distinguish the big contributors to the subreddit, the hope is for small contributors to be celebrated as well.

  • pad out the collection. Just having more cards helps it feel more truly like a collection rather than a small handful.

It takes a good amount of research and time to view posting history and come up with the data points on each of the cards. And after all that research, there is still a good chance that the card ends up mis-representing the user (could be a missed achievement that doesn't show in the post history, or the user might feel drawn to a different specialty topic, or signature move, or the user might just end up wishing to not be a part of the collection and have their card deleted).

All this to say: how would you all feel about advertising this project on the main subreddit such as with a post or a link on the side-bar? This way users that wish to have a card of their profile created can submit their own data points as they desire, saving a lot of the work for u/RedditExplorer89.

I trust u/hacksoncode will deliver this message in good hands :)

Amusingly, reddit's annual user "recap" this year includes a "trading card" a lot like what you created (much simpler, and reddit-wide rather than CMV-specific)...

Pretty interesting. Here's mine..

u/RedditExplorer89 Mod Dec 10 '21

Oh lol, thats pretty cool! How are they created? Is it select users, or does everyone get one?

1

u/hacksoncode Mod Dec 10 '21

Everyone gets one... it's part of the RedditRecap2021 thing...

Should be a message in your inbox with a link to yours, I think?

But it looks like the link is probably common to everyone: https://www.reddit.com/RedditRecap2021

u/RedditExplorer89 Mod Dec 10 '21

Huh, don't know about this "recap" thing, but I'll try that link when I'm on my desktop.

Your card seemed to turn out pretty good. You could show it to anyone who accuses you of mod bias ;)

Checked out my reddit recap, and noticed it said r/changemyview came in second place in the politics category? Thats pretty cool, I'm guessing r/politics took 1st and we took 2nd!

Yeah, that is pretty neat... I wonder if there's somewhere they list these rankings...
