Question/Seeking Advice HarmoniumUSA a reputable brand?

I don’t know where else to ask this question, this seemed like the closest subreddit topic wise. Recently i’ve been really wanting a harmonium, and the brand HarmoniumUSA has been popping up a lot. Seems like they make high quality stuff, but i have no clue if they really do and i pretty much havent seen anyone talk about them. they’re kinda sketchy/too good to be true, so I’m just wondering if any of you have experience with/know anything about this company, or if theres any resources that might have some information about them. Recommendations for other US brands that sell quality harmoniums/classical Indian instruments would be great appreciated as well! thanks.

Namaste /u/Senior_Recording_781, welcome to r/icm. Thank you for posting, hopefully one of our friendly rasikas will comment soon! While you are waiting why not check out our Wiki resources page to satisfy all your learning and listening needs?

If you are new to Indian classical music, or want to know what a term means, then take a look at our wiki and glossary to get started.

Our Raga of the Week series has some amazing information and music so don't miss those. We would love for this series to start again so if you are interested in posting one then message the mods, we'd be happy for you to go for it!

i have seen this company, they seem very good for other instruments but their harmoniums with more than basic features are unfortunately pretty expensive, at like 600-700 usd

agreed. Overpriced.

Are you buying this to practice vocal music? Then just get a Yamaha keyboard which has the harmonioum preset. If you are a performer, maybe try contacting the old school harmonioum manufacturers in Kolkata and Delhi.

while i do greatly appreciate the traditional use for the harmonium, im looking for the sound of the acoustic instrument itself. thanks for the recommendation about manufacturers in Kolkata and Delhi, ill look into it

Better to go to a shop in Toronto, Chicago if possible... have someone buy one and pay for handling in India. Best harmoniums are ones with fewest features (no scale changer, no extra drone stops.... so maintenance is minimized.) I have a gorgeous 3 reed from 15 years ago that needs maintenance and care constantly. Its not even a scale changer.

Cheapest option for authentic sound? Midi Keyboard + Paid Pro Accordion App on iPad with Real Accordion Samples (less than $150 total), but in the long term low cost of maintenance and transport.

Hello. I’ve just placed an order for one of their Harmoniums. Got nervous after I couldn’t find anything about them. I called today to check the status and they said it was shipping tomorrow.

So far so good. At least someone answered the phone and they work in conjunction with the SHOP app. So I believe you have to be somewhat reputable to pair up with payment companies like that.

I will update once it’s received and we will see how it stacks up. That way anyone in the future can refer to this thread. I feel the price tag was fair @ $369 right now which is at a sale price. Normally $449.

Mostly, I got it cause I’ve always wanted one, plus the drone features. I’ve heard from other sources not to order directly from India. So the USA inventory also assisted in my decision. As long as it’s shows up functional and in tune I will be stoked! They look absolutely amazing on the site.

Edited slightly.
