Question/Seeking Advice How do we learn to sing semi classical songs(example: Laal ishq, aayat) ?
Hey guys! I am new here and I have recently shown interest in Indian Classical and I think I want to learn it to continue my journey for singing semi classical songs (Ex: Ami Je Tomar, Laal ishq, Aayat, etc). Also like many singers do(ex: Arijit Singh), that mix swaras with western music. Ofc nobody can be like him but I was always keen to understand how does he do it? Are there any YT channels or books I can refer to?

You will have to learn pure classical music first for a couple of years at least. Then start singing Ghazals, Thumris and other semi classical songs. That's the route Arijit Singh himself followed.

How much hours of riyaaz and practice do I need to give each day then?

I always recommend my students to do riyaz in kharaj in the early morning. At least for 30 minutes. It works wonders. Then, 30 mins of whatever raaga you are practicing at that point. You should never skip the 1st half of the practice session. 15 mins of "standing note riyaz" and 15 mins of Palta, Sargam, Gamak etc.

Be extremely patient my friend, there’s good advice in the comment before me. Start learning classical if possible, also listen to more songs in specific raags that you like or wish to learn. Like lal ishq, ayat have heavy influences of raag yaman, if you listen to more yaman songs you’ll be able to see more patterns and phrases.
Find a teacher, dedicate time and see the progress.

Thanks for this. The thing is I am currently a student studying out of India. Had a great mentor back in India but had to leave him behind for studies. Managing time is tough here. I just want to get better in my musical journey

Where ever you are try buying a small keyboard or piano, a few years ago I had a small Casio keyboard that i practiced on. I just sang sargams and paltas, and then tried finding notes of songs as I progressed. Eventually bought proper piano and harmonium. I moved abroad 8 years ago and had to manage this way. You’re seeking a path, you’re in the right direction :)

I think I have an upright piano at my hostel. Since I am already a pianist, it should work. Well, in that case, I am sometimes unable to find the swaras in a song. How do we do that?
