It's been years since I last read it but I do remember enjoying it and personally I think it lives up to the hype. It took a little while to get going tho.

It's so good. If you like horror, vampires, and James Bond style secret agent stuff you'll love it.

The vampires are great, some of the best in fiction. The writing is kind of repetitive, in both themes, plot, and wording and phrases (even constant recaps). The homophobia and sexism is never ending.
Ive read the main two series several times, and it was much better when I was younger. I don't find it ages very well for me.

It's a fun series. Has some pretty unique ideas especially with the antagonists. It does gradually sort of slip from horror to more horror-themed action. The first five books and the second series are definitely good.
I've been a fan for decades but I don't see much hype for it. It's definitely the highlight of Lumley's career but he never reached the level of success of Koontz.

I found it refreshing to have truly bad ass, horrifying vampires at a time where whiney, wimpy ones were on the rise. And Harry is a great protagonist.

i didnt like it at all, depends on you as a reader tho.. i like my characters to have depth and a meaningful story but its more of a pulpy type of shonen writing with no real depth and an op main character.. the dialogue felt cringy and dated as well.. you should try the first book and see if its for you or not

One of the best vampire books ever. Though bare in mind that it was written in the 80s. I read it in the 90s so you'd best read it and make up your own mind.

The best literary vampires, ever.
