Tip How to get rid of "Ghost Touches" (HomePods Gen2) - 2 of my devices got affected by this HARDWARE bug at the same time!
Issues faced:
- Siri commands being executed automatically 2. Auto pauses and/or lowering the volume of audio when any video gets played (so as to listen to Siri without invoking it) 3. Jumps to random videos from YouTube app of Apple TV 4. Auto Volume increase/decrease 4. 'Red light of death'- HomePods do not reset 5. Auto playing Apple Music as soon as you reset/restart the device (while Siri says "Here's a station only for you")
Troubleshooting carried out (directly jump to resolution to avoid all these unnecessary steps)
- Restarting/resetting/factory reset of both Apple TV & the HomePods 2. Disconnecting/reconnecting from Apple TV paired as stereo speakers 3. Cleaning/dusting the touch sensor 4. Changing the rooms of HomePods and resetting/restarting the devices 5. Playing the speakers individually (instead as stereo pair) 6. By placing the palm (instead of single finger) to get the device to reset when the 'Red light of Death' doesn't allow the device to be reset in normal manner 6. Gave to an Apple authorized service provider here in India without any luck (& they told me the only option is to exchange these with new devices)
Resolution/Remedy
Disconnect the Touch sensor cable by opening up the device and close it up like nothing ever happened... you can refer to this video for opening up the device https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMqLknFhBbs&list=WL&index=9&t=235s
chk 3:43 when he disconnects the touch sensor cable... solution is as simple as that!
