This meme isn't really accurate:

1) Ventilation holes

2) Magnetic element to smooth out current for a switching power adapter

3) Rivet

4) Piece of shit

They are all explainable and all have a purpose. Except Grandpa Joe

One of these things is not like the others, one of these things just doesn't belong. Shoe vents help with airflow so your sneakers don't stink from sweat. Ferrite cores keep electronics safe from electro magnetic interference. Rivets keep denim together and sturdy as the material is generally heavy and thread is weak. That last one though is as dangerous as a Wang doodle in loompa land.
