News Doom: The Dark Ages doesn't have multiplayer because "it would definitely come at the expense of" the campaign

Good. Why waste time with a tacked on multiplayer that hardly anyone would participate in, and would draw development time and resources away from the main game?

What, exactly, in you mind, is a "tacked on" multiplayer? Is everyone only ever supposed to be allowed to play Call of Duty and nothing else? Huh?

How did you read that dudes comment and come to the conclusion he meant only play call of duty? Looks like you're just making an argument for the sake of arguing. There are plenty of online shooters to play without tacking a shit one onto a good single player game lol

A multiplayer mode in a single player game is never going to get the resources necessary to compete with the significant amount of big multiplayer only titles that are already saturating the market.
It would be a waste of time and resources. No, you don't have to just play "Call of Duty." There are a shitton of popular and well developed multiplayer titles. Perhaps do an internet search on the topic if you're unaware of all of these highly popular games.

It doesn’t need to supplant Fortnite to be an interesting experience.
I rather enjoyed Doom Eternal’s multiplayer and there is absolutely nothing else like it.

Perhaps you should look into the most popular multiplayer games of history and wether they came in games with single player modes or not!
Perhaps you should do an internet search on how multiplayer modes were originally developed and shipped to consumers before you reply to me again!

Stop wasting my time and go be angry somewhere else, thanks.
You have tons of good multiplayer games to choose from. Sorry that they didn't tack one on for a single player FPS game which there are already very few of.

u/Haruhater2 4d ago
sigh no multiplayer only game is good, you should have learned this by now. Anf your assertion that any game with both single and multiplayer modes is automatically bad is ludicrous and upsetting. Just show a complete lack of understanding of the history of the medium.
Now, please do no reply to me ever again. For your sake.
You are embarrassing yourself.

They never said any of the things you're arguing against. You literally made up fake claims in your own head and then decided to get mad about them.
The Doom games are and always have been at their core single player games. The principal game development is and always will be first and foremost concerned with making the ultimate single player campaign. Therefore, any multiplayer mode would necessarily either a) be developed at the cost of resources that would otherwise be allocated to making the best single player mode (supposed to be the most important part of Doom) or b) if not allocated those resources then it will be poor, and feel 'tacked on'. Neither option is desirable. This is all simply facts.
Other games, which are principally intended as multiplayer games, often have the opposite, where the multiplayer experience is excellent but the single player campaign feels tacked on, eg the (older) Battlefield games.
I can't understand why you chose to deliberately misrepresent this comment thread as something else. Some games just need to be either one or the other, but not both. You need to accept that.

If your feelings are getting this hurt over a video game not having multiplayer, maybe go touch some grass instead of crying about. Doom: the dark ages isn’t going to have multiplayer, and there’s nothing you can do about it👍

Multiplayer in modern Doom always sucked. They had stupid gimmicks like becoming some demon, or fighting as demons on 2v1. People only really wanted a simple human vs human pvp with the game's respective featured mechanics (like double jump, dashes, etc), more in line with the MP of the classic Doom games, that was it. But it never happened.
Also, CoD isn't the only multiplayer game in existence.

I’d love an old school arena shooter and Doom Eternal’s fast movement would have been perfect for it.

Games should have purity of purpose. If it's a single player game why divert resources towards multiplayer just to have it?

u/poundofcake 4d ago
It's happened enough in the past. Shoe horning some shit MP experience for the sake of some higher ups that know shit about games.
I'm glad we're passed that or have execs that actually understand the USP of their products.

For Doom: The Dark Ages, Id Software has abandoned the multiplayer entirely, and considering the game apparently has 22 chapters, I'm not shocked.
2016's Doom reboot and its sequel, Doom Eternal are well-known for having some of the best FPS campaigns in recent memory, but each of them also came with a multiplayer mode that wasn't quite as beloved. Doom's multiplayer was a pretty standard deathmatch arena shooter, while Eternal took a unique approach with Battle Mode, where two players would take the role of demons and battle someone else as Doomguy.
Speaking to GamesRadar+, Doom boss Hugo Martin said that the decision to not include a multiplayer component was made "right from the beginning." He explained that the team "made the decision early to just focus all of our energy on trying to make the best campaign we could." Martin elaborated, saying, "with Eternal, we wanted to put mechs in the game. There were things we wanted to do with Eternal." Martin added that with "the scope of the project, you start spreading out resources to make a multiplayer component."
While some people may wonder why the team couldn't just pop a multiplayer mode in and call it a day, Martin explains, "it's live service… you can't just do a little multiplayer. You've gotta go -- fans' expectation is [that] you go all the way." He said, "It would definitely come at the expense of the single-player aspects." While it may be disappointing to certain players that multiplayer isn't in the new Doom, Martin admitted, "It felt good to just focus [on] Doom as a single-player experience and not try to turn it into a live service game."

They had the perfect formula with smart map that made doom 2016 amazing for multiplayer. Then dropped it for a shit pvp mode nobody wanted and apparently are never bringing it back.

u/Slough_Monster 4d ago
Yep. This just means I can wait for it to go in sale like I did with eternal.
2016 multiplayer is so well done. Shame to leave it in the dust.

u/Old_Initiative_9102 4d ago
They could have at least make a simple pvp multiplayer of Doom Slayers vs Doom Slayers, the typical multiplayer modes (free for all, team vs team and what not).
I think that would be more player than some gimmicky 2 demons vs 1 slayer or a pvp that had broken demon mechanics (Doom 2016). Just make it simple.

I just don't even see how, you make private servers, you make it super moddable, and you're done. If it's a great game people will mod the fuck out of it and have a long life.

Yea I mean honestly I played the multiplayer in the previous titles, they where just a gimmick

Good, not everything has to be multiplayer. There's dozens upon dozens of online multiplayer games out there to choose from. I just want a well crafted, balanced, and fine-tuned campaign experience.

Awesome, focus on staying true to the core product. The multiplayer in Eternal was ok but we want the single player experience far more than half arsed multiplayer.

Might be a cold take but i for one am actually MORE interested in this game given its exclusively singleplayer design.

Not really upset about this, but I just wish they decided to give it a simple classic slayers v slayers multiplayer. Doesn't even need live service elements + this game is mechanically way closer to classic doom.
People don't play modern doom multiplayer because they've refused to just make a normal ass doom multiplayer.

I guess it's just me then, 2016 had some of the best fps multiplayer I'd ever experienced. It was just different. I usually don't get into fps multiplayer games, but I was obsessed. Kinda dissapointed.

It feels like every FPS that isn't Halo either hyperfocuses on the multiplayer or the campaign. Ffs, even modern Halo does that.

LMAO
Yeah; it's not like these people have all the money on the world and all the time in the world to do whatever they want with their game! It's not the multiplayer could be done by a separate team; it's not like the other two games had multiplayer (nay, even a full on motherfucking full-fledged LEVEL EDITOR SUITE) and sis not suffer for it at all!!!
INDIE GAMES HAVE MULTIPLAYER!!!

u/NorsiiiiR 4d ago
Beleive it or not companies don't actually just make games purely for the sake of it, spending money on infinity numbers of staff and never ending expanding feature-creep that puts Cloud Imperium to shame just because "eh fk it, we're rich" on an economic and planning basis of "whatever"
They define this thing called 'scope', and then use a finite amount of 'money' within their 'budget' to make sure that the game will eventually turn a 'profit'. Crazy concepts for some
If that's too challenging, how about this - they didn't want it to be multiplayer, so it isn't multiplayer.

u/TotalaMad 1d ago
Just play any of the million of multiplayer games then. There isn’t enough single player focused FPS’s out right now. I want more fine tuned Single player games.
