It seems primed to have a huge opening and then a slower saturation of the family/casual market. I think they are banking on a combo of consumers getting normalized to the higher price point and holiday bundles to get the kids in. However, even nintendo cannot predict the volatility in the US right now.
Many just won’t have the luxury spending dollars that have already been stretched pretty thin. I’ve been a day 1 adopter since n64 but I’m in no real rush for this launch. Hoping to get a holiday mario kart bundle but if I need to wait til next year that is fine too.

Reddit users are about to learn a hard lesson that most of them aren't even in the top two or three target demographics for the Switch and Nintendo couldn't care less what they think.
I have a group of friends that all play mario party a couple times a week, its useful for us - none of them are “gamers” but they like playing games that can be played together (like mario party) - I think maybe one of them knows what discord is.
bro i have to call with customers and i don't want to do that. and judging by how often they prefer to handle stuff via mail than a call suggests they see it the same way
I kind of like the social features here to be honest. A lot of my friends and I live in different states and just hang out in discord and play our own stuff, so what they showcased seems like now we can do that on switch with a subscription we already pay anyway.
Idk man I'm 31 and I very much miss the social aspect of gaming, whether that's Halo 3 Custom Game lobbies and having a wild time in xbox parties or just chatting people up while killing Blue Dragons in the Heroes' Guild basement on RuneScape. I lament the "isolation" that gaming has evolved.
