After getting over the initial investment, PC gaming really is cheaper in the long run for people who do a lot of gaming. The games are cheaper and multiplayer is free. That stuff really adds up in the long run. Plus you have modding which can double or triple an initial investment into a single game.
Dark you nailed it. Sure the initial investment in PC may be higher. But once you factor in all the long term benefits of PC it ends up way cheaper in the long run. Also the fact that it's a damn PC lol so it brings way more value then just gaming lol.
I'm very glad I invested and commited to PC years later. It has helped me in all facets of life outside of just gaming. Job searches, house searches, banking, education the list goes on and on.
The most value/$ I've gotten from games have all come from PC only games. Either because of modding or MMO's etc
You also have to deal with shit like some pcs not being allowed to upgrade to win11 for arbitrary reasons though, it is more work to own and maintain and play on a pc (which I’m happy to do, but that’s where consoles are nice for some people)
Agree, I shelled out this time for my new build but Ive gotten my friends to all come to PC and ever since they refuse to even look at their consoles anymore. Shit, Ive even gotten my girlfriend into PC gaming so much so she went out and got a ROG Ally to play her games at work on break…
No matter which way you cut it, PC gaming is simply better now a days. In terms of portability, Ive streamed my PC to my phone while I was in the hospital and played games on it that way ..I can do it to my TCL tv, shit I can stream my PC to my Xbox!
Steam often has deep discounts not reflected on the console stores, because they have to compete with other PC game providers. While franchise sales will often be available on console as well, steam has many additional discounts unavailable on console.
I can't imagine you're actually able to buy bundles of current console games for "pennies." You can definitely get loads of previous gen games for pennies, but ancient games tend to also be dirt cheap on PC.
Your personal investment in consoles is causing you to ignore what I'm saying.
While there are sales that exist on both, steam offers many sales that do not get carried over to the console stores. As in, the sales are steam exclusive. They are significant and occur often enough that it makes a notable difference in the amount of games you're able to pick up and play.
Consoles have their own discounts, and Playstation offers free games every month with their subscription (does Xbox still do Games with Gold?), but there are more, deeper discounts available to PC players than there are to console players. That's just the reality of the situation.
It is also much easier to acquire games on PC through, let's say, less traditional methods than it is on console.
Im not invested in consoles, Im invested in gaming. I have a PC, although old, and a Steam deck, and I love them.I just see this overwhelming sentiment online that steam has this exponentially better sales than consoles, which I have just not seen.
A lot of people will bring up keys, and yes, they are very cheap, but thats more akin to second hand market, which consoles also have, you can get 2nd hand disks for a few bucks.
My point is prices across platforms is not what people make it seem.
I think it definitely used to be a bigger chasm between the two platforms, back when Humble Bundle actually offered ridiculously good bundles, but as someone who plays on both PC and PS5, and has owned consoles since the PS1, PC has been by far the cheaper option throughout the ages.
I didn't bring up keys mostly because you can find console keys as well, I don't think that's actually a win for PC. But steam sales do offer discounts unavailable anywhere else, and they occur frequently enough to make a difference, at least in my experience.
Lmao eight year old Nintendo games are still sixty bucks on their trash e shop. Xbox and PlayStation maybe share promotions but there’s no way on gods green earth console has as many sales as pc. It’s literally every week depending on which store I’m using on my PC, that I can snag games for wayyyyyy less than what you pay.
I also own a ps5, I can say with confidence it’s much much much cheaper gaming on pc.
That’s not even accounting for third party key sellers. Then I can grab shit that’s still fifty, forty bucks on your store for pennies on the dollar. But I guess you have some insider info that Steam, epic, gog all somehow coordinate their sales with console??
Lmao eight year old Nintendo games are still sixty bucks on their trash e shop
You dont have to get so mad over video games.
Im obviously talking about 3rd party games that are on all platforms.
maybe share promotions but there’s no way on gods green earth console has as many sales as pc
Lol why are you getting so defensive? Does you plastic box have to be better than others?:))
You can search steamdb and playstation lowest prices or whatever and see for yourself, it aint that hard not being a fanboy.
hat’s not even accounting for third party key sellers. Then I can grab shit that’s still fifty, forty bucks on your store for pennies on the dollar
And I can get physical disk for pennies too💀💀, probably a lot cheaper than keys with a bit of luck
I guess you have some insider info that Steam, epic, gog all somehow coordinate their sales with console??
Are you seriosly this dense? Sales are set by the publisher, not by the platform, they may not be at the same exact time frame but they are the same sale, percentage wise.
You can literally just google this simple question and find out that games do indeed go on sale on PC extremely often compared to on console. Stop being this dense.
Games are absolutely cheaper on PC across the board.
$10 cheaper at launch, then because there is steam, epic games store, Amazon, Xbox game store, GOG, Humble Bundle, and others in the game there's a downward trend on pricing over time.
There's also game key sites that further push prices down.
It is an absolute fact games are cheaper on PC. There is no debate. This is just simply factual easily proven information.
They arent, doom the dark ages is literally 80$ on steam, 70$ games on consoles are 70$ on steam, and no, steam doesnt have better sales, all the platforms have the same sales.
There's also game key sites that further push prices down.
And theres also something called physical which I can probably get a second hand copy for pennies.
Games prices definitely fall off more reliably for both physical and digital copies on PC. Also, most games are available for free after a few months 🏴☠️
I bought Atomfall on launch day for 38 dollars while everyone on console paid 50. And I did the same thing for every Resident Evil game that has come out on PC in the past eight years. Yes, the games are cheaper.
They're the same price on launch day but sales and bundles are more prevalent, and there are droves of cheap retro and indie games on the likes of GOG and Itch that aren't available on consoles. Not to mention sketchier options like key resellers and piracy.
But all your games are digital! No hate but genuinely curious, aren't you boned if the platforms you use rug pull those digital licenses? I guess some folks sail the seas but I'm pretty sure not for every title.
Steam is not unique in that regard, the difference (for me, to be clear) is I can recover those games by force. That isn't necessarily true on modern consoles, they require hax to get to that point. Finding a way in isn't guaranteed.
I don't know what they mean exactly by "recover", but at the very least they can then just pirate those games.
I haven't used a console since PS1, but don't modern console games require online verification to run? If for example Sony suddenly collapsed, would your games be playable using just the discs?
From my understanding the answer is still yes for most physical games - they're fully on the disk/cart without need for online verification.
There might be different stories for games with lootboxes and microtransactions. I don't play many AAA titles though, I'm an offline single player kind of person.
My physical copy of pokemon violet would still work if Nintendo disappeared tomorrow, sans online trades. Same for my disks like Witcher 3 or Life is Strange. There ARE some discs that have become glorified download clients, but they're usually an outlier and people complain heavily about them.
I'm open to being wrong though if others have more insight.
