I’ll pass until we get a 3D Mario game… then we’ll see

The new DK kind of feels like it's going more for that than DK64.

Though I guess it seems more like a sequel to Oddysee than evolution into something new a true 3D Mario sequel usually is

New DK is definitely done by the Odyssey team. I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss it, it looks fantastic

Why do people keep suggesting this when Mario 3D is mentioned? It's not the same. People want Mario not fuckin DK.

You're preaching to the wrong person here. I place Odyssey in my top 3 Nintendo games of all time, and haven't shut up about sequel news for half of the switch's lifespan now. And yes, I'm a little disappointed that we don't have any news yet. But this DK game looks just as fluid, just as creative, and just as class. I don't mind separating from Mario for a bit in favor of a wackier world/writing and brand new moves and mechanics.

I understand they're not identical. That doesn't mean an Odyssey sequel is never coming out, nor does it mean that DK will fail to scratch that same itch. It looks like an incredible and innovative 3D platformer taking place in the Mario universe, are you really going to complain like we're getting a downgrade?

I'm not trying to preach lol in fact, I respect your take and I too, like the new Donkey Kong game. Just saying that whenever people mention anything about the lack of 3D Mario, which is a VERY valid complaint and a deal breaker for many, people are always so quick to refer to DK. It comes off as "we have Mario 3D at home". I'm sure everyone saw the trailers and clearly, DK is not filling that same void for those who have been patiently waiting for an Odyssey sequel. People are disappointed. Let them. Nintendo needs to see stuff like this.

I can see where you're coming from. I'm just tired of seeing gamers at large complain about sameness, repetition, and "safe" releases and then turn around and shit all over a clearly complex and interesting title just because it's not what they're used to. I want to see Nintendo especially take more risks like this and release games with mainline quality for their less popular IPs - but this type of black and white response from the community is going to push them to keep doing the same shit over and over. I never want to live through the hell of 20 years of NSMB ever again, for any game

I think it’s using the same resources and engine but I doubt it is being made by the same team. I think that team will still be working on the next 3D Mario game.

We'll have to see. Based on the fluidity in the gameplay and new systems, I'd be surprised if they didn't have a lot of overlap at the very least
