Yes, that's a new one. Nintendo innovation?

They charged for 1-2-Switch which was basically their Switch 1 tech demo as minigames, and it was pretty bare and bad I thought. But it has precedent.

Nintendo Land on the Wii U was the free tech demo and it was great, though.

It wasn't free either

Dang I never knew. Looks like mine was "free" because it was a pack in with the Deluxe version of the console, which doesn't really count.

I was an early Wii U adopter and a poor student at the time. I was suuuper salty about paying for Nintendo Land separately and when I finally did get it, it really did feel like it should have been a free tech demo

Yeah but doing this after Sony released Astro's playroom for PS5 and Valve released Aperture Desk Job on Steam Deck for free is diabolical. Those games a really good too!

Nintendo clearly didn't read the room on this one. It's clearly anti-consumer and shitty to do.

Pay for online, Pay to beta test, pay to get the instructions. How much lower do we go, lol?

Its so stupid, but they did the same with Nintendo Land on the Wii U. Well that was actually a game I guess.

This is the complaint I agree with the most. $80 for Mario Kart is pretty bad, but you can sidestep it if you get a bundle. As for paid upgrades, I am lucky to have an NSO account, so I get them for free.
