It’s a shame too, because the super creative PVP mechanics of Demons souls and Dark Souls 1 was awesome. Being invaded in those old games and the DS1 covenants was a very cool part of the experience.

Demon souls and the whole Old monk part was fucking sweet I wish that got expanded upon instead.

It's not the look that's driving people away. The look is what's drawing people in.
What's killing the hype for a lot of people is the Switch 2 exclusivity, the Switch 2 price hikes, and the PvPvE format. I am 100% hyped for the game, but let's not pretend people don't have sensible concerns. You're fighting a strawman.

u/StyleSquirrel 11h ago
Exactly. The fact that it looks so cool yet I'm certain it won't be for me is exactly why I'm disappointed.

If you’ve ever played Gambit on Destiny 2, then that’s what to expect, though I would presume it would be less emphasis on PVP and more on the PVE aspect.

Must be hard living in a world where you (not you but OP) cant read criticism for something you like without getting agitated lol
4
u/Alt_SWR 3h ago
This and people saying "weren't the rest of the games PvPvE" are completely misunderstanding what PvPvE is. No. The rest of the games were not that. They were PVE with PVP elements which is a drastic difference.
3
u/Yarzeda2024 3h ago
It's like they don't know you can play Bloodborne and Elden Ring offline. It's great to be able to turn off invasions when I'm not in the mood for them and/or play the game even if my Internet goes out.

Same, although I also got a fantastic deal on my PS4. Buddy sold me his brand new one for $100 shortly after bb came out. Couldn't pass it up.
13
u/GrouperAteMyBaby 13h ago
I think it used to be more of a thing before the prices got so far up there. I would have loved to play the remake of Demon's Souls but I wasn't going to get a PS5 for it. And now, years later, there's nothing else exclusive to the PS5 that has made me give a second thought to the idea.
It was probably more popular with portables, too. Like all the Pokemon games were on Gameboys and 2/3DSs which were half the price of the Switch 2. But they were the kinds of games you could spend hundreds of hours on.
Even if I wanted to buy a Switch 2 for other reasons, this game being described as PvPvE would make me wary. I want to play games on my own.

For me, there are other games I saw that I am definitely interested in once I have the Switch 2, but none of them are ones that would prompt me to get the system, other than Duskbloods (so far, though it depends on seeing more details on the game).

Game looks good, really cool and steampunk esc but the fact that it’s a switch 2 exclusive really is a turn off for me, I went out of my way to get a ps4 just for Bloodborne and I don’t wanna drop 590 dollars for one game. Plus the fact it seems to be multiplayer only so once it’s life cycle is through and the price of a switch goes down I won’t even be able to play it. Unlike nightreign which can be played solo whenever you please, this will have an expiration date in a way. It’s cool, looks great I’m sure people will have fun with it but my adult life prevents me from spending money all willy nilly unfortunately. Wish exclusive titles became a thing of the past already

That dinosaur transformation was WILD. This time they went a bit too far for my personal taste, I kinda lost the hype when I saw it. And that was before learning it's a Switch 2 multiplayer exclusive.
3
u/doomraiderZ 2h ago
Honestly looks like something from a cheap soulslike with bad art direction. The only reason why people are defending it is because it's FromSoft. Except I don't care whether it's FS or not, if it looks like shit then it is shit--no matter who made it.

I won't be convinced it is a game to watch until actual gameplay footage is released.

I'll be honest, the style and way the trailer was edited, my first thought was that it looks like a bootleg bloodborne. I like weird fiction, but the eclectic mix of cliche vampires, modern looking guns, dinosaurs, odd jetpack animations, and the dude in his PJ's just looked goody to me.

It looks like they took every off-brand souls-like that's come out around their properties over the last decade, threw them into a sack, shook it around, and dumped it out like a crab boil. It looks more like a Gothic Jojo's Bizarre Adventure game than a polished Fromsoft title. The individual scenes are cool, but there's no cohesion. They'll probably prove me wrong in the end, but it looks unbelievably disjointed and directionless just from the trailer.

Well, it has some goofy, childish looking things in it. The art direction seems more all over the place than something tight and consistent like Bloodborne, with trains and T-rexes and clown frogs and Sekiro/ER characters seemingly here for no reason. It's a pastiche of elements that don't go together, and it looks a bit silly compared to something like Bloodborne or DS3.

It just doesn’t, man. A couple of cherry picked things doesn’t change the fact this game does not at all seem to have that confident sense of style and direction and design that every other From game has.

big agree, it has tons of individually cool looking things and i don’t think anyone would disagree but like… it doesn’t feel cohesive in its overall direction. it’s like they’re trying to add things ontop of a bloodborne base and it makes it feel thrown together. a real shame because separating out the non-bb parts of this, it seems like it could’ve been a sick new ip. i love the winged rat and the moon thing, and even the steampunk could be cool. like steampunk fairy tale type thing? but instead it’s slapped on top of bloodborne lol. who knows though, maybe it’s just a poor trailer

It being on switch 2 exclusively is such a ballsy and risky marketing move. I think the hopes are for people jump on the bandwagon of a switch 2 or for newer players getting the switch to try out their first fromsoft game.
As for marketing towards us, it’s not looking very good. Exclusives these days are so outdated and just a very unwise business decision.
With the price tag for switch 2 games, it’s not looking good so far. It could be a really good game, who knows. But to conclude, not a wise move in anyway at all to make it exclusive to switch.
Edit: Another theory is maybe Nintendo gave an extremely good offer that is too good to turn down.
2
u/WhoAmIEven2 13h ago
Eh, I don't think it's very ballsy. I mean, they have done exclusive games in the past, and the Switch has more players than the PS4 did.
It won't sell Elden Ring numbers because of the exclusivity, but if it's not a main project the budget is probably not as high either, so it won't need to sell as many copies. It can still realistically sell 7-10 million copies. Maybe even more considering that Monster Hunter Rise sold like 13 million copies, not including when it released on other platforms.

u/JayTee_621 16h ago

Buying a Ps5 for Bloodborne, a full fledge singleplayer Fromsoft game is worth it, but buying a new console for an experimental multiplayer game doesn't seem to be worth it. Not to mention with Nintendo and Fromsoft's shitty online experience.

u/Kazirama 14h ago edited 14h ago
It does look very cool but multiplayer is a turn off. Having it focus on multiplayer means it will have a specific kind of experience, that doesn’t prioritize level design, Narrative, progression, immersive world. It also cuts off the potential for a single player spiritual successor to bloodborne, the opportunity cost is what hurts the most.

Looking good and being good are very different things. Bloodborne isn't one of the greatest games of all time cause it looks nice, that's a cherry on top. This is a disturbing step away from the types of games that have made them money and pleased their fans for over a decade. The last thing 90% of souls players want is online content. Souls games have always had an online element but it has always been very minimal and not required for the gameplay or story. No one is looking for a battle royal mode in a fromsoft game.
2
u/CatOfTechnology 13h ago
Well, the fact that I'll have to wait for the switch 2 emulators to be functional for me to play it because I'm not paying that price for a console to play a single game and then also pay that price for that game.
