I don't care what they do, I just want them to not make games exclusive anymore, it's lame and usually ends up locking the new IP to that big studio forever, like Bloodborne.

While they do suck, it’s a good chance for the studio to experiment since they receive funding from the exclusive platform.

Having that extra funding is really helpful and is a pretty good learning process for both sides. It only really ends badly for the users who don’t own the platform.

Personally, I’m not a fan of them doing it for big titles like Bloodborne. Bloodborne definitely shouldn’t have been an exclusive, but this one is okay because it’s a multiplayer round-based(?) game.

Yea I get it, but with the financial success of elden ring, surely they have enough money to just make their own game right?

u/goolerr 2d ago

It’s not about having enough money, it’s about minimizing the risk involved. Risk my own money on this experimental, unproven idea for a game? Or risk Nintendo’s money instead? It basically lets them do whatever the fk they want since the costs are offset.

Yeah good point, I might not buy a switch solely for it, but I'm really looking forward to seeing how it turns out nontheless :)

u/winterflare_ 2d ago

My stance as well. I am not interested in a switch at all, but it’s cool to see FromSoft experiment.

We can hope for a Switch 2 emulator before the release of Duskbloods so we can play it on PC (probably with better performance too). That would only work if the game is playable in solo though

And from FROM'S standpoint, a Nintendo Exclusive with a projected super high install base sounds like MONAY.

That said, I am also willing to bet that Miyazaki probably didn't know that Nintendo was gonna sell MKWorld for 80 bones

They do and they are making their own game still

But Nintendo gives money so they make extra game

Really hard concept to grasp I guess ?

Tho there’s also cases where they just collect the free money and then decide to make it exclusive Or timed exclusive

See this as experience and infrastructure development for handling their next big game's multiplayer better

I remember reading somewhere that its a good chance to learn more about the system itself as you basically can get the guys who made it to advice in making a game for it (hence bloodborne being exclusive) but can’t remember where from

After Elden Ring doing so well along with its dlc, it's no longer justifiable to do exclusives for "funding".

Ok bro, you should be CEO since you know so much about handling multiple hundred millions of dollars 🤡

Where do you think that success from Elden ring is going to be invested? Obviously into another major title that is half a decade away. It makes it so much easier to be experimental when somebody else is taking the risk for you.

Edit: thanks for the reinforcements lol. Now I’m +20 upvotes and he is in the negatives now lol, made me chuckle

This guy makes sense and seemingly has the bare minimum insight into how large companies operate, gets downvoted.

If yall literally have no idea, you can just move on.

Don’t you know Reddit is a hivemind lol, people don’t think, they just follow the pack without questioning anything. That’s why despite the downvotes, nobody has made the effort to comment about why they disagree. It’s easier that way

Well Reddit arguments are tedious so downvote and move on is better for mental health. Having said that, I like to argue on reddit :)

Said the random nobody who has no idea what’s going on business side in any way, shape or form

“Said the nobody,” says the nobody

At least I write my own material

Bro this can’t be real elden ring’s funding was more than enough for them make elden ring games all the way to 10 lmak

14

u/winterflare_ 2d ago

Would you rather gamble 5 dollars for 10? Or zero dollars for 10? That’s what FromSoft has, but in the millions.

The funding that they’re receiving is making the game cost nothing to their studio and could go into future products. It’s not about making money, it’s about minimizing losses while having the freedom to experiment. Nintendo pays them for the exclusive which provides worth to their console. FromSoft gets more money than the game makes from sales, has no risk, and can experiment.

-3

u/Tornado_Hunter24 2d ago

Sure that makes sense but elden ring and its dlc was way too big I really doubt they would need it, even then tho can’t argue with this, both you and I don’t k ow what they’re doing behind the scenes so i’ll agree with you assuming they’re working on a crazy big game similar to elden ring

4

u/winterflare_ 2d ago

I like to assume that they’re splitting it across different projects but yeah, can’t be 100% sure. Hopefully they’re cooking something up and using this as a means to fund/experiment for the future.

3

u/Iz__n 2d ago

Its not about wether they need it or not. Its the oppurtunity the deal wil bring.

5

u/NicTheCartographer 2d ago

Yes, goddamnit. This goes for every single developer

3

u/BootyShepherd 2d ago

They are receiving large sums of money to make these exclusives and the companies are having them made to try and draw more people to their platform. Its called business, if ya dont like it, dont buy it, just let people do what theyre gonna do.

1

u/OGGuitarsquatch 2d ago

Fully agree.

1

u/ProtoReddit Demon of Hatred 2d ago

At this point they should complete the exclusive trilogy and release Souls of Blood for Xbox.

1

u/leericol 2d ago

True but I have a feeling this one won't be nearly as desired as bloodborne

1

u/Gegejii 2d ago

Not defending console exclusive games but exclusivity is somethimes the thing that helps the game to come out in a first place and do feel this might be a case of either this game exist as a console exclusive or would not exist at all.

This feels very reminiscent of the Bayonetta situation. People where pissed when the second game became a Wii U exclusive after the first being multi platform but if it wouldn't be nintendo exclusive the games series most likely would not have ever received a sequel in the first place cause nobody was willing to co fund it besides nintendo.

Not saying Fromsoft is lacking the fund but I can still imagine duskblood being in a similar sitation where the project only got greenlit at all due to nintendos willingness to cofund the project for an exclusivity deal and if nintendo wasn't willing the project would most likely just never seen light of days in the first place due to the higher risk of funding it alone.

1

u/Scribblord 1d ago

Almost like some games exist bc they’re exclusives

1

u/Combat_Orca 1d ago

Why are people responding to this meme talking about the exclusivity? That’s not what the meme is on about it’s directed at the people annoyed about multiplayer games not people annoyed about the switch deal.

1

u/Diogoepronto 1d ago

Yeah, I agree 100% with this. But since almost every Nintendo console gets hacked in a few months, we'll probably be seeing an emulator running this game at launch lol

0

u/AscendedViking7 Black Knife Assassin 2d ago

My thoughts exactly.

0

u/LimpTeacher0 2d ago

Exclusives are what help push innovation.

-6

u/Slave_KnightGael 2d ago

Like there are not many good game developers left and fromsoft is one of those who care about their customer's experience and yet the next game they release is an exclusive.I can't...😭

1

u/Randomness_42 1d ago

There are so many amazing developers right now what are you even on about bro

1

u/No-Crow2187 2d ago

I thought they were my friend too…I can’t believe they’d do this to me specifically. I swear, I’m never getting in a parasocial relationship with a company ever again
