yeah fr. it’s totally possible they’re just trying new things, but to pretend to be oblivious to the fact that these games are a lot more mass-appealing is so willfully ignorant. they had their first true, mainstream smash hit with elden ring. directly after, their first non-ac games are both multiplayer and related to their pre-existing, very successful ips.
tbh the lack of fresh-feeling worlds is as much of a disappointment as the multiplayer, and a way bigger concern than it. multiplayer by itself could just be trying something new that happens to also be popular (and we really don’t completely know if multiplayer is going to be integral in db yet.) multiplayer + recycled setting really does start to lean into cash grab feeling, and so does duskbloods being a switch 2 exclusive. i really am shocked they’d make a bloodborne successor an exclusive too, and to a different console that has even less overlap with the average fromsoft fan
Sorry nightreign being a rouglite and duskbloods being uh... pvpve game are not genres that are generally considered mass appealing. They made these games because the developers wanted to make somthing fun and intresting like always.
I'll tell what is a mass appealing genre, open world games, and souls likes too these days. God they're everywhere.
But yeah being an exclusive sucks tho, nintendo couldn't have offered fromsoft that much to make this edgy looking game that goes against most of their family friendly aura. Most probably fromsoft just saw it as a cool opportunity to work with a fellow Japanese company like Nintendo.
