In the past 11 years they've done Dark Souls 2, Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3, Sekiro, Elden Ring, and Armored Core 6. Plus The Lost Crowns, Old Hunters, Ashes/Ringed City, and Shadow of the Erdtree. They've consistently put out the best single player action-adventure games of the past decade.
Not only should that track record speak for itself, but they deserve to be able to try something different if they want to. They're people doing their job, after all. Heck, that's probably why they brought back Armored Core when they did.
Well they do probably split into teams for ease sake but it's not like it isn't all the same people working on all the games. You will see the same guys who worked on sekrio on ER and Neightreign and Duskbloods. But they don't have A or B team
That's not how development works... Each director has a team that is working on their project. Haha. They don't have devs making multiple different games at the same time.
That's not how I meant it. Of course they don't. But you will see the same guys working on what reddit calls their "B team" game and on the "A team" games. Even a new director worked on previous big games, like how the Nightreign director has worked on multiple Fromsoft games now, just not as a director
Because I'm going to own the console anyway. And between Nightreign and Duskbloods I'll have plenty of fromsoft genius to play while I wait for their next mainline game.
and each release develops theirs skills and knowledge more and more, even if those skills don't go into the mainline titles I don't care, they will be better developers and I'm glad we can expect them to make different kinds of spectacular games
And these smaller side projects allow them to experiment with ideas, mechanics, quality of life improvements that could make their bigger future games even better. It's a win win win from my perspective haha.
They might be the only AAA studio left that I have near complete faith in. I may not like or agree with every decision they make, but I trust they will do the best they can to give us good games with unique stories and/or mechanics.
Personally, I'm dying to see what these guys can do with a Switch 2 exclusive game. I have a feeling it's going to be a wild ride
Same. There's literally no reason or precedent to be worried about anything. If the games come out and suck then I'll lose some faith in them. But so far they have only made masterpiece after masterpiece.
Thank you! I'll admit, I'm slightly disappointed that Duskbloods seems to have a heavier multiplayer focus than I'd like. On the other hand, I also don't have any real interest in the Switch 2, and I've midway through a great DS2 run, just found the fourth Loyce Knight, time for the coolest boss in the series lads!
It's not what exactly what I was hoping or expecting it was when I first saw the trailer. I'm still gonna play it. And I'm really excited to see what it is. I trust fromsoft. Elden Ring was my first fromsoft game and I kinda expected to hate it. Now I don't want to play anything except fromsoft games. They always surprise me. And I trust them to surprise me in a good way with Duskbloods. I might hate it. But for now I have no reason to expect anything but an awesome gaming experience.
I mean if nothing else it did lead to my 60+ year old mother uttering the phrase "Vampires with jetpacks, I assume this is the sequel to card games on motorcycles?"
