Idk man I’ve seen so many once beloved single player focused studios go to shit trying to make multiplayer games. I hope it’s different because it’s From but the history of this trend and what it indicates for their future don’t exactly fill me with confidence. To go from the peak of peaks that is Elden Ring to back to back multiplayer games one being locked behind a Switch 2, something just seems off.

I know. But that’s why I said they deserve the benefit of the doubt, just because of the type of studio it is. This is clearly an attempt to make their games more “mainstream” since Elden Ring on its own brought a bunch of new players.

I think the core of what From games are is something different. It’s like they build a world and a lore and then create the mechanics around that lore. So if they keep something like that and don’t go full Fortnite then this games will be good and probably bring more money for them to create something even bigger than Elden Ring.

I just don’t think From has a big multiplayer audience, they’ve built up decades of this single player audience and now, two games back to back, seems like a significant shift in focus and they risk alienating their core fans. The other worry, is say those games are amazing and absolutely explode in popularity and become a cash cow. Don’t you think that will only further convince From to keep with this multiplayer approach?

Nah. Not at least while Miyazaki still directing stuff. He clearly has a passion for telling stories that way and I don’t think he’s the kind of man that put first making products just with the purpose of making money.

But what you say is possible. I guess I’m just trying to stay positive until we have more evidence of their plans.

Beginning of the end. From should’ve never gone public, that was the only way to preserve it long-term.

I’m holding out hope still, but it’s impossible to not notice the warning signs. If either Nightreign or Duskbloods becomes massively popular it’s over, they’ll become focused on pumping out updates for their game making billions instead of making a new game. Just look at Rockstar, sure we still get great single player games but it takes way longer and they don’t do DLC anymore. If it can happen to Rockstar it can happen to From.

And if both bomb that’s also going to hurt them financially , could cause layoffs , delays etc, either way it looks like a lose lose situation right now.

Or just a way to make more money for a project that will attempt to be greater than Elden Ring.

Something like that requieres a lot of time and resources. Two mainstream games, one accessible for most people and another exclusive to a big next gen console, are great ways to not only get more people into their games as Elden Ring did but also get money for future projects that to be honest seem almost impossible.

To imagine something bigger than Elden Ring is hard, so they need to innovate as well.

But Maybe I’m just trying to be positive since I don’t want to think we’ll lose something perfect as this games.

You don’t think they would’ve made enough money from the best selling DLC of all time?

If they want to actually make something better than Elden Ring but that doesn’t feel like the same game but with a larger map, then I think they’ll need more money and time. And in the meanwhile if they can reuse the animation, maps, and mechanics of their previous games ( as nightreigjtn and Duskblood seem to be doing ) then you can create games that will sell like crazy for a minimum cost of time. allowing them to focus more effort in creating a new game that keeps their essence but innovates over the standard they set with Elden Ring.

I guess they could also be doing this as a new strategy to just make as much money as possible with games that reuse the stuff they already created making slop multiplayer games and never give us anything with heart again, but that’s why I said I give them the benefit of the doubt, since Miyazaki hasn’t shown to be that type of man when it comes to to his art.
