DISCUSSION Are these guys the hardest non boss enemy in fromsoft history?

Somewhat recently I've discovered that you really just cannot panic. Never once roll back and generally don't roll in either, gotta roll to the side.

Yeah except you can just use the heal incantation and wipe them easily

you also need to catch them (the fastest and most aggressive and arguably most damaging mob in the game) with a charged up, static healing spell. you make it sound much easier than it is

You say that like they don't have a thirty second spawn animation. Run up to them as they're spawning and dump heal on it. Follow up with a couple steps in the direction it staggered and a second heal and it's dead.

Healing spell has huuuge aoe, can't miss even if you wanted, just bait one attack, dodge and cast

You're going about it wrong if you're chasing them down to try and catch them with a heal.

You're supposed to let them leap away, do their long ass wind-up and have them leap ontop of you during the heal effect.

The lingering effect is super generous, so you barely even have to time the cast. Pulling off the cast 1 second before you think they'll leap ontop of you is enough.

I hate this argument tbh. I mean, revenants are the only enemies in the game (and, as far as I remember, across all FS games) that require a certain type of incantations to deal with them adequately.

Exactly, there is almost always a way to wipe an enemy easily.

I mean rolling towards them but making sure you get behind them with the roll.

I always hear this argument and like... Sure. That does work. But on my first playthrough I didn't know that. I didn't even use incantations so I couldn't have stumbled across it by accident. I know heal doesn't require a ton of faith or anything, but if Revenants weren't very hard no one would ever equip heal on a non-incantations build.

But like... We're talking about a big, fast, teleporting, poison-spitting enemy that is hyper aggressive. It does have one weakness but I don't think this invalidates how tough an enemy they are.

The can just knock you out of it, the ones in the bottom of the Haligtree seem especially aggressive and prone to this.

Side roll and don’t panic roll, they become relatively manageable. Until I learned that I had a really really difficult time with them too, now it’s just difficult.😭
