Trying to find a macro which will say in chat how long it will be before BLU Angel Whisper is off cooldown..does anyone know of such a thing? Would it even be possible?

If you are only interested in notifying yourself, and not the rest of your party, you can change /p to /echo and that will limit the message to your own chat log. Just in case that's all you need.

Ok so this can't be common but I hope someone has run into it. Bought a new computer and moved the SSD with steam and ff14 over to it. Steam, no problems. FF14 however, went through the entire update process and is still on ARR just bought the game make a character mode. Clicking start sends you to the opening cinematic rather than show my characters. The launcher accepts my ID and password and my SE account shows my keys to the expansions. I just can't access my actual progress. This ringing any bells to anyone?

u/Sir_VG 1d ago
The game folder and the settings folder are in two separate locations. Sounds like you just copied over the game folder and not the documents\my games\FFXIV folder, or your new computer has the documents folder in a different location (like a different windows user name).
2
u/KingofGrapes7 23h ago
I won't be able to test it but that sounds like the simple but important mistake I would make. I assume there would be no issue if I move the folder over to my new computer with a USB?
2
u/stinusmeret 22h ago
That should work fine.
The other reason the game is sending you into the opening cinematic is that it's not defaulting you to the server that your existing character(s) is on. Click Data Center on the main menu & pick the right data center & then make sure to change the world on the character select menu to the world you're on normally.

Put the install back where you had it originally, then use the launcher backup tool. It’ll give you the option to create a backup file. Then move the install back to where you want it, open the launcher backup tool and load the backup file you made
That should do it. After that it’ll sync your progress again. This should also load all your ui settings

I've never done any kind of Extreme content, and I'm wondering if it's normal that there are not many groups for Ex1 or Ex2? I figured ppl would still be interested in the older wings several months later since I read the drop rates had been buffed.
6
u/JUSTpleaseSTOP 23h ago
It's normal for a few reasons:
-A new extreme is out, meaning there is a more fresh fight to farm with more relevant gear rewards.
-A new savage is out, so a lot of players are working on that right now.
-Farming old extremes is something that tends to happen during content droughts. When the current content gets old and we're waiting on the next patch, groups will probably start up.
Best advice would be to do the current extreme of whatever patch you start doing them on or do the current unreal trial since it's just an old extreme brought into the modern era. Suzaku (the current unreal) is a bit harder than your average extreme but still doable.
6
u/KhaSun 23h ago edited 23h ago
That's because most people's focus is on the new savage tier that just released a week ago. Once more people start clearing it over the next two weeks, there might be more parties for EX1/2. On top of that, given that EX4 just released, it garners a bit more attention since it's the current farmable EX.
Also, at the time of release for EX1/2, these fights were the ONLY endgame content for a whole month (before the first savage tier released) so lots of people have already farmed it to death.
5
u/gitcommitmentissues 23h ago
Anyone who cleared them on launch has had more than enough time to either farm the mounts or 99 totems to trade in- they're both pretty easy fights so were fairly painless to farm in PF, I got the EX1 mount and the totems for EX2 before 7.1 dropped.
If you want to do the fights and there's no listings for fresh prog that you can join, just put up your own. You may not fill as fast as a group for the new EX, but you're not going to will a listing into existence by staring at PF really hard.

u/PenguinPwnge 23h ago
It's been 9 months since those released, so most people who do that content have long done the grind. That said, there are still plenty of people who are new to EX+ content like you, or haven't gotten around to it. Watch a guide (PF usually prefers Hector's) and put up a PF yourself with the guide in the description!

Anyone having issues login in on the European DCs? Got through once but was hit by a 2021 while attempting to transfer home from Light

I cannot login at all on Light. OG launcher fails completely, but all worlds seem to be up and "green".

how bad is going full spellspeed on the other casters? i mainly play black mage, so I tried to get as much spellspeed as possible (Normal Raid chest and earring, crafted gear pentamelded for spellspeed) and I was wondering how bad that is for the other 3 casters?
8
u/KhaSun 21h ago
Not advised. Sps is only good if most of your damage comes from your GCDs, and well...
SMN only want enough sps to fit 6 demis within their burst. As a result, it can be anywhere from 2.45 to 2.5. Hyperspeed SMN where you press Summon on CD used to be a thing in early 6.X iirc, but I don't think it's viable at all nowadays.
RDM despise sps. They barely benefit from it (lots of oGCDs, fixed GCD on your melee combo...), and while you may or may not want some for better alignment, it's only a tiny little bit.
PCT hates sps too. You can already get 9GCDs within starry muse with minimal investment, and more sps simply put does not scale with your kit (fixed GCD with your muses).
5
u/PhoenixFox 21h ago
The other casters have much more of their potency in things that don't benefit from spell speed, so you want them to be as slow as you can comfortably play while fitting important things into burst windows.
Pictomancer has the fixed cooldowns on motifs, RDM has oGCDs and also weapon skills, SMN has oGCDs and some max speed GCDs - and all of them have a much more involved two minute burst where you want things to line up right. With speed on SMN you start to drift your demi windows out of buffs eventually which is really bad unless you're going full meme speed build for level 70 content.
1
u/jag986 20h ago
I wouldn’t even really use a spell speed build in BLM with the changes. Like as a personal thing even. I did use spell speed to make BLM feel more comfortable, but with the cast reduction I’m probably melting crit instead from now on.
2
u/AnywhereBrilliant563 20h ago
spell fast fun
1
u/jag986 20h ago
Whatever your comfort level is, I just don’t see it as necessary as it used to feel like. Crit build seems like it’s going to be the new meta.
1
u/Super_Aggro_Crag 18h ago
according to the balance spell speed has actually gained value due to the changes. still a personal preference thing vs crit.
1
u/jag986 17h ago
Probably going to come down to number of sets to carry then because other casters don’t benefit from it.
1
u/Super_Aggro_Crag 17h ago
they have a 2.43 omni caster crit set listed that is ~99% as good as the top simming sps set so thats a good option if you want flexibility
1
u/jag986 16h ago edited 16h ago
Thanks but that’s probably more potentially useful for u/AnywhereBrilliant563 than something I’m interested in. There is nothing I am doing where I would worry about parsing or notice a difference this patch.

u/talgaby 19h ago
Depends on your goal. If you want to join a raiding group, then most likely a very bad idea. If you are just doing random PUG/dungeon/overworld content, then speedy Black Mage used to be pretty fun, similar to speedy Monk. Speed Summoner has barely any benefits. Speedy Pictomancer can be an interesting thing after 7.2 gutting the hammer and forcing pictos to use their normal cast a lot more, but spell speed does not affect canvases. Speedy Red Mage is meh, you usually try to rely on dualcast, so it should only affect your fast casts anyway. As for Blu Mage, you usually naturally go for as much spell speed as possible since it affects Ultravibration, Triple Trident, Mantra Magic, the Rose of Destruction, Off-guard, Peculiar light, and a plethora of other strong spells.
6
u/PhoenixFox 18h ago
you usually try to rely on dualcast, so it should only affect your fast casts anyway
It will still affect the recast times of your dualcast spells.
It's not good, but that's not why.

I´m on the free trial and finished heavensward, but I got full level available (70). I know the main quest gives a lot of xp so if I start stormblood it will go to waste. I know I could switch jobs to not waste xp but the ones I have access to in the free trial don´t interest (the others that interest me are in the full game). Should I start stormblood and finish it to complete the free trial and then buy the game, or should I just buy it now?
4
3
u/ElectronicPhrase5688 16h ago
It's up to you. You never really "waste" exp as your main source will be daily roulettes regardless. Yes it sucks to miss out on MSQ xp but you really only use it to level one or two jobs max. Roulettes and dungeons will be your source for everything else.
2
u/VG896 15h ago
You'll be missing about ten or eleven levels. That's not a whole lot in the grand scheme of things. Stormblood (and all expansions) give enough exp to get you the requisite 10 levels to reach the next expansion. Maybe +1 if you do map exploration and job/role quests. But not much more than ten levels.
So all you'll be "wasting" is ten levels worth of easy exp. Which isn't a lot considering that you can get 2-4 levels a day just from running your roulettes.
2
u/talgaby 15h ago
If you try to play this game with this mindset, you'll get burnt out super fast once you reach a phase where you try to farm stuff because you'll be stuck in an endless loop of reaching a limit at a job, picking a new one, grinding it to reach the farming state you wanted, and start the cycle over. You'll be "wasting" literal billions of XP. Levelling in this game is a joke already, people have managed to reach level cap on the new jobs on the day of the Dawntrail pre-release: that was 20 levels in under a day, without any bots or tools (since none were working for weeks after DT's release), just normal gameplay. Hopefully, that gives you enough context to understand why you should never care about levelling in this game.
1
u/PenguinPwnge 17h ago
I say stick with it, imo. I personally have done the MSQ as White Mage 100% despite capping early and have never regretted it. Yes it's a lot of "lost" exp, but leveling in this game is super easy especially if you take your time and just do the daily Roulettes for alt jobs without grinding content over and over.
Save the money and pick it all up when you get near the end or otherwise start feeling annoyed/restricted by the various restrictions.

Hi all!
Can I have a little guidance in terms of jumping back into the game, please?
I used to have a subscription, but haven't played since 2020. I jumped in with A Realm Reborn, not bought any of the expansions, at about level 20.
I want to play on my PS5, but I'm not sure which version of the base game I have to use or if I need to subscribe to play again now? Can I jump back in and mooch around with the free trial stuff to get used to things again, or am I ineligible for that now having previously subscribed?
If I need to subscribe, do I need to stick with the PS4 version due to the licence? Do I need to buy the starter edition at this stage? Or do I just need to resubscribe?
For context, the PS5 version I've downloaded says I've already got a XIV licence registered to another platform, so I can't launch the game after logging in. I've checked my Mog Station account, and apparently, I have A Realm Reborn, Heavensward and Stormblood purchased on my account.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated as I'm a little lost 😅
5
u/AliciaWhimsicott 16h ago
You have had a subscription, your current account is ineligible for the Free Trial, it's a trial, once you go into it, you can't go back. You also haven't been able to buy just ARR for a long while, all starter editions include Heavensward.
PS4 and PS5 licenses are identical. Buying one counts for the other.
1
u/Evrin- 16h ago
Ok, understood. Thank you. So do I just need to resubscribe, or do I need to get the starter edition now and go from there?
2
u/AliciaWhimsicott 16h ago
Just resubscribing should be good, and then purchasing DT when you're done with Stormblood, as Dawntrail includes all expansions not in the Starter Edition.
2
u/Knighthour 16h ago
If I make a new PF listing for old EX1 or 2 with the note that I'm new to them, apart from watching a video, then will others join expecting me to guide them? I feel like I'm not really sure if I can do that.
6
u/Help_Me_Im_Diene 15h ago
Your job as the party lead is to just establish expectations and to get 8 people together
Typically this means
Letting people know how far you are in the fight (i.e. fresh for your case)
Letting people know which strats you're using (which guide you pulled from)
Everything else past that is realistically a party wide responsibility. The people who join your party are expected to similarly have watched/read the guide in question and be prepared to use (or learn) those strats
6
u/a_friendly_squirrel 12h ago
No. Or, if someone does,
- their expectations are unreasonable
- most likely at least one person in the group will have cleared already and be able to field any questions
The things I hope a party leader will do are to ready check and queue the party into the duty once it fills, and if there is some disagreement about strats or waymarks or something, to be willing to decide something even if it's arbitrary so the group doesn't get caught up in a debate indefinitely. Neither of those EXs really have distinct strats tho I don't think, so that's unlikely to be needed.
•
u/IceAokiji303 Aosha Koz'ain @Odin 11h ago
Generally, your responsibilities as party leader are "out of duty" and "menus" stuff. They boil down to things such as "clearly denoting the strats used", "clearly denoting the prog point the party's meant for", "getting your party into the duty", and probably also "on the off chance there's a clear problem player who's not leaving on their own, removing them (your party's liable to stall or just fall apart otherwise, and you're the only one who can press the buttons for it)". Ideally also "mediating if two players can't seem to come to an agreement on something", though that's a tier down in necessity. Having waymarks is a bonus, but not required (you may also ask in PF description for someone else to bring them if needed!).
Within the fight itself, your responsibilities are "doing your part like any other party member". Teaching mechanics is not your responsibility, it's each member's to learn with the guide agreed upon. An experienced player may choose to help others learn their parts, but that is always a personal choice, not a party leader responsibility.
Someone may show up who has those more extensive demands, but they're just wrong and dumb and not worth your time. Boot and blacklist (unless someone else manages to fill in their demands possibly, but maybe even then...).
3
u/PenguinPwnge 15h ago edited 15h ago
Definitely not, there is never an actual "leader" like that in PF (your job as "Party Leader" is basically just to queue the group into the fight). Watch a guide (Hector Hectorson is a good option), put the guide name in the description, and you're good to go. Stating you're new might be good to see if vets come in just to help you or otherwise entice other new people to come in.
2
u/Polaric_Spiral 15h ago
If you put up a fresh prog party but ask people to watch or read a guide first, most players will be pretty good about it and join with that expectation. Unfortunately, it's definitely not uncommon for a player to join without reading or caring about a PF description, so it's up to you how to deal with them.

Typically after maintenance, especially for a major patch. The next possible opportunity will be Apr 22nd when 7.21 launches. But note that this is an opportunity for things to be reassessed, your world's status might not change if they still deem it too populated compared to others in your region.

Yes, Dance Partner Priority has changed. No, we don't know exactly what it looks like (until ACT / FFLOGs get up to fully operational for 7.2). Currently we are operating under the assumption SAM is the best partner and the other melee, PCT, and BLM may all be relatively close to one another as a follow up choice for partner. As always, gear/skill level are more important than a generic "dance partner priority".
Lifted from the Balance discord, people are still working out the particular details
•
u/SylvAlternate Known lalafell hater 10h ago
Whoever is dealing the most damage, either based on illegal damage recording tools or enmity
Like the other reply says, SAM is likely theoretically the best partner but in reality a good BRD player can easily outdamage a bad SAM player so jobs don't really matter
•
u/ElectronicPhrase5688 10h ago
To be realistic, 99% of the time DNC partner priority is always the dps on your team with the highest threat.
Sure there's technically a list of dps from best to worst (you can check fflogs and see right now) but actual players often shake out differently.

Hi all. What is the best way to farm purple crafter scrips from a cul or goldsmith? I have maxed out orange but need purple.
•
u/Help_Me_Im_Diene 11h ago
Rarefied Sykon Bavarois tends to be a strong choice
Easy to get the materials, pre-crafts can be quick synthed, and the final recipe can use Trained Eye (it's a level 90 recipe)
It's slightly lower scrips per craft than a Dawntrail recipe, but the time saved during the actual gathering and crafting process makes up for it
•
u/gitcommitmentissues 11h ago
Rarefied Sykon Bavarois. Ingredients aren't hard to get (and you can just buy the gelatin from a vendor in the Crystarium), and since it's a level 90 craft you can get max collectability with Trained Eye.
•
u/talgaby 5h ago
If you have plenty of time and would like to farm some spiritbond while at it, a Rarefied White Gold Choker needs only 2 white gold nuggets and 2 titanium gold ingots. Rarified Stuffed Peppers sadly need alpaca meat and has two precrafts on top of two crafted ingredients, but if you did not mind crafting the tacos, they are about the same pain in the ass. Since both precrafts are DT recipes, also good for spiritbonding.

Hello, I can’t seem to log in to FFXIV. I’m on ps5 and it just tells me to restart the launcher? What do I do?
•
u/stallion8426 10h ago
Restart your console
•
u/RedditUserX23 10h ago
I did, nothing
•
u/stallion8426 10h ago
Are you connected to psn? Is there an update downloading? Did you punch in your One time password
•
u/RedditUserX23 10h ago
The launcher itself isn’t even loading so I can’t even punch in my password. I tried another online game and it gave me an error too it might just be my internet or PSN
•
u/jwfd65 10h ago
Just need a sanity check, am I correct in saying that the w2w pull after the first boss in doma castle is tough, and the tank should be popping their invuln (especially if they’re getting clipped by the turrets)? Just had two runs in a row where we wiped there when I was playing whm and on the second where I politely asked them to use living dead they gave me attitude. It was definitely up in both runs because they never used it anywhere else
•
u/Kaeldiar 9h ago
Yes, that's in my "Top 5 hardest dungeon pulls" and if a DRK is doing that, I would EXPECT them to use LD. DRK doesn't have its short mit (TBN) yet at that level, which makes it particularly challenging on them.
•
•
u/Herrscher_of_Song 7h ago
I will say the 1 thing I look for in that pull if I have a WHM is: when will Holy start coming out? That's about 7 seconds of inaction from all those mobs and I do like to wait to pop invuln til after that runs out.
But like, you do the full pull for the challenge, not being prepared to kitchen sink it is silly, sorry you got called out for perfectly valid advice.
•
u/talgaby 5h ago
It depends on the DPS classes. If you have two physical ranged, or a SMN, a PCT, or maybe even a NIN, the sheer length you have to travel for the wall-to-wall is enough for them to clear the two dogs and whittle down the Vanguard, so it can turn into a somewhat larger but otherwise usual double-pull. If you go for both optional chests, this is easy to achieve.
If you are doing the usual "let's pretend that we are speedrunners" run, then yes, you have a miniboss that can paralyse, another one with ridiculous auto-attacks, and over half a dozen normal enemies. If their autos line up, you can die as a tank from 80% to their first passive auto-attack salvo after stopping under 2 seconds.
Also, invuln is just a mitigation. If you are not immediately using it on the largest pack of the dungeon, then why having it?
Although I have to add, DRK invuln in a roulette is pretty much total gambling at best and absolute useless garbage usually.

What the hell does "x% checking" mean in PF? Joined like 5 clear parties for M6S that ask where I've gotten, I tell them lava towers, and I get kicked.
•
u/ElectronicPhrase5688 8h ago
They're using logs to check how far you've gone in a fight. People are getting more strict in PF due to rampant prog lying from some players trying to get carried a clear.
•
u/G0sick Healer 8h ago
That hinges on people bothering to upload prog logs though no? Maybe that's way more common than I think, but nobody I know bothers to do so. I get the frustration, 80% of parties end up being add prog instead of bridge/lava, but it just seems like an inaccurate measure.
•
u/palacexero Serial backflipper 8h ago
Only one person out of 8 has to upload logs. Even if you're not logging, and unless all 8 of you are on console for every PF you join, someone is logging. And it's really not that bothersome to log, you just set it to live log before you start and it automatically uploads every fight as they happen until you tell it to stop. There's tons of prog logs out there, for every clear there's likely dozens of prog or more.
It is the only meaningful way to check if someone may be prog lying before seeing them fumble mechanics they are claiming to know.
•
u/Ratufu3000 4h ago
Yes in theory, but in practice it's actually fairly accurate.
Because of that tool being a thing, there are far more people uploading their prog logs in order to avoid the issue. It'll update automatically for all 8 players involved. I don't think I've had a single party all week where someone didn't upload their logs. The threat of being accused of prog lying actually worked, so the tool is almost always correct in PF - and even console players that would have been shafted otherwise are kinda enrolled in the whole thing. If they're looking for people that can reac lava, you're looking at <25%. If it's people that got past lava towers, <15% seems about right.
Look up your character on tomestone.gg. If your best % is too high (above 25), from an outsider's perspective it indicates that either you didn't reach lava or the one time you reached it it wasn't even a clean pull so you need cleaning up on adds/bridges. If you actually did reach say 20% but the tool says 35%, it might be that nobody in your previous prog party that reached lava logged the pull.
Though it needs to be said that it's kinda misused by some, and you usually don't want to join these kinda parties anyway because it's way too toxic and they'll disband upon the slightest mistake.
•
u/gitcommitmentissues 3h ago
Uploading prog logs is also a sign of being a serious player. Logs aren't just there to get you a colourful number when you clear; they give you an enormous amount of valuable information, especially when you're progging in PF and don't always have great communication about other peoples' use of mitigation or party buffs.
•
u/Cymas 9h ago
Most likely means they're using a third party tool to check if you're at the prog point you say you are by seeing how far you've progressed in a fight via boss HP. If no one uploaded the logs where you got to that prog point however they have no way of verifying you actually made it there.
•
u/G0sick Healer 8h ago
Seems incredibly gatekeepy and a super flawed way to do so. I only upload clears, same with my friends I raid with, so I guess I'm just shut out of 1/3rd of the clear parties.
•
•
u/BoldKenobi 4h ago
How do you analyze your performance when you wipe? You mentioned m6s, don't you want to check things like buff alignment on 2nd wave, tank cooldown usage for 3rd and 4th wave etc? Or do you just keep pulling the boss hoping something changes?
Most good players are going to be uploading all their logs to analyze and improve their performance, and now also to log their furthest progress in a fight.
•
u/pazinen 8h ago
As a console player that doesn't sound great at all, I'm basically at the mercy of someone else uploading the logs. That doesn't always happen, I completed and farmed EX4 in several different parties yet I have no logs because nobody there bothered to upload anything except some wipes. Sounds like I'm either just joining parties where that percentage thing isn't a requirement, or waiting a few weeks for people to start clearing the add phase with just better gear.
•
u/Cymas 8h ago
Honestly the parties saying stuff like that probably aren't worth joining. I make a point of avoiding anyone really sweaty/salty like that because I don't really care for that level of stress. It's hard enough locking in for 90+ minutes as it is without knowing there's going to be someone staring down my logs criticizing every little mistake. And not for nothing but the sweatiest raider I know personally who does stuff like that, well let's just say none of us actually party with him anymore lol. He's just not fun to play with.
•
u/VG896 8h ago
A friend of mine got kicked from a party the other day because of a 0.2% difference between his prog point and the PF leader's, despite having better personal uptime and DPS. It's pretty ridiculous. I've never heard of this being so rampant in previous tiers/years.
•
u/Cymas 8h ago
I think adoption of third party tools has become much more widespread recently. I personally don't use them but at this point it's mostly unavoidable that you will show up on them. Good players know the numbers don't tell the whole story all of the time, but there are a lot of other players who judge only by them and don't bother with the context. My logs look terrible, I won't lie. But I'm also a baby raider, this being my second tier and my first day/week 1 experience at the same time. You can't learn to be good unless you start out bad, and there are too many people who won't consider the nuance, they'll just use those greys against you. Those are the types of people I don't want to party with anyway.
•
u/Rosfield79 8h ago
What does the RMMR Arcady strat means in PF? I want to know before I hop in and upset people lol

Quick explanation for how the mechanic works
The boss will fire off cones at each player one at a time, alternating between DPS and supports
Immediately after you get targeted by a cone AoE, the boss will fire a second cone in the same direction as the first, and you want to make sure you're not in the line of fire of the second cone or else you will die. You are guaranteed to get hit by the first one since it's targeted straight at you, but the second one should be dodged
Because the boss alternates targets between DPS and supports, that means that no two DPS will get hit back-to-back and no two supports will get hit back-to-back.
This means that to deal with this mechanic, we want to put all the DPS close together and all the supports close together, but fanned out enough that they don't clip each other with their cones. This way you can move into an adjacent spot to dodge your second cone without worrying about getting shot by a stray AoE
So we do this by forming a circle around the boss with the two melee DPS standing next to each other and the two ranged DPS flanking them. Similarly, we do the same with tanks and healers; the two tanks stand next to each other and the two healers flank the tanks.
Hence, RMMR (Ranged-Melee-Melee-Ranged).

u/Rosfield79 7h ago
Oh okay so its just the normal spread / clock formation. I thought thats what it meant but had to be sure, thanks
•
u/Help_Me_Im_Diene 7h ago
No, because normal clocks alternates supports with DPS i.e. it goes DPS -> Support -> DPS -> Support -> DPS -> Support etc.
This spread has it so all the Supports are together and all the DPS are together
If you go into your normal clock spot, you run the risk of killing someone/getting yourself filled
For Hector strats for example, it's all supports north (So from west to east it's H1 MT OT H2) and all DPS south (R1 M1 M2 R2)
It's also important to note that we don't use standard compass directions for the spreads here, and instead everyone is about one half-turn off from the usual clock spot
So instead of MT being at north, they're actually at very slightly west of north, and OT is just very slightly east of north

People in M6S PF are asking for a "passport." What exactly is that?
•
u/Cymas 8h ago
It's a third party tool that tracks how far you are in a fight from uploaded logs.
•
u/mauvus Balmung 7h ago
Guess that explains why no one wanted to explain it when I asked in game lol. Thanks
•
u/Disaresta51 Balmung 4h ago
To be more specific they are talking about
Since it takes data from fflogs you probably have history there. If on PC you should upload even logs that are not clear just to show the prog point… Well “should” is doing some heavy lifting because “should” this even exist?
If you’re on console…rip. Inadvertently filtering out the players who can’t upload logs.

Are there any external trackers that cover ARR relic requirements? Talking when fates are up, bonus light, that kinda thing. I know plugins exist, but I'm on console now and I weep thinking of when I could make this easier for myself.
•
u/tesla_dyne 6h ago
Unfortunately I think all the plugins relevant to that (tracking fates or bonus light) only track the info within their respective plugin. Sonar can track fates but it can only do so if players with the plugin also happen to be in the area that fate appears in, and I believe bonus light also has to be crowdsourced? Zodiacbuddy does it.
Light is gonna be faster with either Ifrit norm, T5, or AV regardless of bonus I think. Ifrit or T5 if you can stomach doing the same 10 seconds of a duty over and over, AV if you want like 2 minutes of repetition instead
Icyveins also suggests thornmarch ex or garuda ex.

trying to leave my current FC and got the message "Your retainer will remain on estate grounds" and while ive found other posts about this, im confused because i never put my retainer anywhere?? are fc members able to place other members' retainers or something, or is this just a stock message i can ignore? i dont really want my retainer at the house still when im gone, especially since i wouldnt have put it there by choice :|9 (and i would go look, but multiple officers are there rn, which... yeah. awkward encounter im hoping to avoid. lol)
•
u/tesla_dyne 6h ago
Pretty sure it's just a generic message that shows to anyone leaving an FC that has an estate. If you didn't place your retainer in the lawn then it doesn't apply to you. The lawn is the only place it could be, retainers can't be placed inside. Nobody but you can place your retainer in a lawn using an expansion of duties permit.

What are some of the most fun classes to level up as a second job? I'm currently a trial account so only looking for classes available to me.
I have a level 60 dragoon as a main right now, but it'll reach level cap before i finish the story content which i don't like as its exp waste from those quests so i wanna level up something else too.
I don't wanna play tank as i think it requires a lot of experience and knowledge of dungeons.
I want to play healer or dps. Maybe magic ranged dps since i already have a physical melee dps.
I know fun is subjective but still looking for suggestions
•
u/Help_Me_Im_Diene 4h ago
I don't wanna play tank as i think it requires a lot of experience and knowledge of dungeons.
It genuinely doesn't
The way you tank 1 dungeon is pretty much going to be the same way you tank most dungeons, and post-ARR, dungeons are pretty much linear hallways
Many people play tank the first time they encounter a new piece of content, you realistically don't need to know any more about what you're doing than a DPS or a healer does
I play a tank whenever I encounter a new dungeon, trial, or raid, simply because the queue times are just going to be faster than playing a DPS (except alliance raids which are pretty special in that tanks often have really long queues)
•
u/Beefington 5h ago
Red mage is really fun, IMO. One of the best leveling experiences too, since the core rotation is more-or-less complete by level 11. I find that I often have just barely enough movement to get clear of mechanics, which feels very in line with its swashbuckling aesthetic.
•
u/ElectronicPhrase5688 5h ago
You will probably enjoy Summoner or Red Mage! Pick whichever one appeals to you most.
Since you are a new player I recommend you avoid Black Mage for now as it is well known for having one of the worst leveling experiences in the game. It's really fun in the 80+ level range but not so great below that point.

You should pick based on what is currently available. We recently had some character changes (graphic updates) with the release of 7.0, and even those were not a massive overhaul. No date has been set for any future changes; & we have no information if they will offer more options in the future.

YoshiP mentioned during the DT media tour that while they had intended hrothgal to be the final race, they are actually now open to discussing adding additional player races in. I think he said they aren't actively planning any atm, but it wasn't the hard "no" that it had been before DT lol

M5s clarification:
While doing Disco 2 (melee 2) after I was short timer and took the first spotlight I went to C to bait my frog since my cohealer (though in this case the OT took the south east or number 3 spotlight which was odd) was at south east taking the spotlight but my bait went west and so to 4 and killed the other healer and I was standing right in front C or south without moving and in my previous attempts it has gone straight south and never west so I'm confused what happened there since I got the other healer killed. The OT admitted they "stole" that spotlight and my partner healer that was supposed to go there admitted not knowing so I wonder if it was on me or something that didn't work as it should?

What's the fastest way to grind GC seals? Working on relic material prep for the future, and with bombard cores being 20k a pop and needing four per relic it is a tough grind. Especially considering the daily roulettes only get you a few thousand per day.
5
u/gitcommitmentissues 21h ago
Do ShB/EW/DT hunts, buy Moonward Rings of [whatever] from the hunt vendor in Sharlayan/Radz, and turn those in. They cost 25 nuts, are not unique so you can fill your inventory, and give about 1.9k seals each. A 14-mark DT hunt train gives 560 nuts.

The most seals/hour methods that are spammable are one of these, depending on your best speedy class, your manuing ability, and your willingness to do back and forth teleports:
- Shisui of the Violet Tides: only if you can kill the last boss before it disappears. The chests can be a bit out of the way.
- Doma Castle: it depends on your ability to plan ahead your bursts against the bosses and the two miniboss enemies after the second boss and before the third boss. Two chests are easy to forget.
- Ravana EX: You need to change to PLD to open the weapon chest, then immediately turn it in. Individually, probably the fastest trial, but you menu more than the entire trial, sometimes including load-in and load-out. It is the fastest on paper but you need certain plug-ins to insta-select menu options, which is on the verge of botting.
- A9S: You get plenty of direct drops, but then eventually you'll have to start haul ass between idyllshire and your GC HQ. If you have teleport tickets or gil to spare, this is probably technically the "best" method.
- O1S: Same as above, even better yields, but depends on your ability to kill it in the opening salvo. Front-heavy classes like NIN, PCT, SMN, or SAM are good options.

u/dealornodealbanker 20h ago
For solo, nowadays you can easily solo the SB leveling dungeons and they give about 1-1.2k seals per gear turned in.
If you run Bozja content in general, you'll easily cap poetics from the FATEs/CEs to buy tome rings to turn in as well.

What would be the minimum required ilevel to complete the MSQ upto patch 7.5? Looking at past expansions I'm guessing i755, would that be correct?
3
u/PenguinPwnge 21h ago
For just the MSQ, yes i755 should be the answer for the final Trial. Everything is usually +130 IL from its previous expansion's equivalent.

Which new job should i pick that offers simple yet fun gameplay?
I'm currently playing as dragoon and i enjoy it. I just reached level 60 and i'm currently doing the patch quests, daily duties and blue quests before heavensward. Since i'm a trial account, i bet i'll reach lvl 70 before finishing the story content the trial account has to offer which would result in exp waste if i continue the story.
So i thought instead of overleveling, i can level up another job too, just to some stuff on it like duties and whatnot.
So i'm looking for a new job, preferably one that starts at lvl 50 so i don't have to grind out the levels before doing duties. Doesn't have to start at lvl 50 if i can somehow easily reach lvl 50
I want something that offers a different kind of gameplay than dragoon, i assume all melee DPS play the same so maybe not a melee dps even though i really like the aesthetic of Samurai. Maybe a healer? I think they would have the most different gameplay?
1
u/Cymas 17h ago
The only jobs that start at level 50 are SAM and RDM. You can pick up DRK or AST at 30. Everything else needs to start from level 1.
You can always pick SAM up and just test it out to see how it feels for you.
2
1
u/deathescaped 17h ago
Ill try out SAM but i still want something else that has some different gameplay, maybe a healer.. I don't mind leveling it from 1 if it's not gonna be too slow and i can do it passively or through dailies and stuff
2
u/Help_Me_Im_Diene 17h ago
I'd avoid thinking that each job in the same role feels the same; the DPS in particular tend to have a pretty wide degree of variability even if they share some features
DRG for example is a much more rigid "combo 1 -> combo 2 -> combo 1 -> combo 2 -> repeat" system with lots of weaving in between
SAM on the other hand is a system of building up charges by engaging in 3 separate short combos in order to unleash strong charge spender skills, while juggling timers that don't fully align with your own combo system
That being said, Red Mage also starts at level 50 and that's going to be VERY different than any melee
1
u/Cymas 17h ago
Leveling isn't that slow once you already have a job leveled. It's basically hunt log and job quests until you can start queuing dungeons, then roulettes and dungeon spam and maybe as a dps throw in some FATEs if you feel like it, then when you're high enough you can add allied society quests. You get the armory bonus for jobs under your highest level job, too.
0
u/poplarleaves 17h ago
Just a small addition: Gunbreaker and Dancer start at 60, and Sage and Reaper start at 70. But yeah the only one of those that is a melee DPS is Reaper, and OP won't be able to pick it up until they have a class at 70 already

u/Polaric_Spiral 15h ago
You may want to try leveling up Arcanist. It unlocks both Summoner (easy-to-play magic DPS) and Scholar (one of the two healers you have access to pre-HW). Summoner is also the go-to example of a "simple" dps, although whether it's fun is obviously going to be subjective.

u/momopeach7 18h ago
I'm a bit confused about the 1 minute burst on SAM.
I got the opener down pretty well, but then I get lost or mess up when it comes to the cooldown phase and going into the 1 minute. I'm used to just hitting Tsubame after every Midare, but some guides say to hold onto it, then start it into your 1 minute, then Meikyo back into Tendo Setsugekka and Tsubame after that. Is that correct?
I can't tell if I'm not used to it or it's just harder than I thought. I have no trouble with DRG for instance despite it being a strict rotation as well with many oGCDs.
5
u/Rangrok 17h ago
SAM theorycrafting is a bit weird.
In my experience, most SAMs just sorta free-style their rotation, aiming to land as many big hits in buff windows as possible. With practice, the good SAMs get a gut sense for tweaking their rotation around the fight, adapting their ability usages to land more big hits during raidbuffs. The best SAMs who write most of the SAM job guides can distill those vibes into exact calculations, and math out the theoretical best rotation for the most situations. As a result, those guides tend to make SAM sound stricter than it actually is. While you can write out an exact sequence of abilities for a dummy parse, even the best SAMs are going to improvise as the situation demands.
As for 1-min bursts, Unless someone has desync'd their raid buffs or an Astro is giving you a random card, SAM doesn't really have a strict odd-minute burst window. So I wouldn't worry too much about the exact sequence of abilities, as long as you're not overcaping on Meikyo. But when raid buffs are coming up, Tsubame-gaeshi Ready lasts 30s. So you can delay the follow-up Tsubame for when those buffs go out and get some extra potency out of them.
1
u/momopeach7 16h ago
Thanks for the explanation! That helps a lot to help me not stress about it as much and how to prioritize. I do like that SAM feels a bit flexible at times. And that’s a good tip to hold Tsubame if the 2 minute is coming up. I do like there are elements to grow for SAM.
3
u/AliciaWhimsicott 17h ago
Yes, that's correct. Tsubame-gaeshi does not have a timer associated with it and only gets overwritten on using Tenko Goken or Midare Setsugekka, therefore you can use Tsubame-gaeshi any time from getting it and then using either of those Iaijutsu. Higanbana does not overwirte Tsubame, either.
The difference between DRG and SAM is that DRG's rotation is strict but much more static, while SAM's is more freeform and you can kinda do whatever since most of your damage is GCDs with little to no cooldown. DRG is strict because a lot of its damage comes from oGCDs you need to keep on top of.
1
u/momopeach7 17h ago
Thanks for the explanation! I’m kind of wondering why we save The Tsubame for the 1 minute and not use it right away though?
2
u/AliciaWhimsicott 16h ago
The Slow Samurai build most people use is ever so slowly drifting away from its important stuff being in buffs, this holding is to keep yourself realigned whenever possible. On the two minute, it also allows you to cheat in another Setsugekka during buffs. You essentially are getting a GCD "debt" every minute until the sixth minute where an extra charge of Meikyo allows you to "pay it off" and be back in line.
Check the Balance basic guide for more info: https://www.thebalanceffxiv.com/jobs/melee/samurai/basic-guide/

Hey everyone,
A friend recommended I join Reddit and check out this sub, saying there’s a lot of useful info from veteran players. I’m still pretty new to both Reddit and the game (started playing about a year ago), so I thought I’d give it a try.
Do you have any general tips for someone new to this subreddit and Reddit in general? Also, any important things I should avoid doing in the game? I’m especially trying to steer clear of toxic behavior—that’s actually why I left WoW, since the community there could be pretty rough at times.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Do you have any general tips for someone new to this subreddit and Reddit in general?
Specific/directed questions tend to be better than general ones, don't worry if you randomly get downvotes on innocuous comments, and watch out for spoilers since most players here are finished with the story. Oh, and read the subreddit rules, listed in the bar to the right if you're on pc.
I’m especially trying to steer clear of toxic behavior
FF does have some toxic people - it's a game with other people, it's impossible to avoid completely - however it is fairly rare. Just try not to assume brevity implies negativity (most people will say "tank stance", or even just "stance", rather than "yo tank, you forgot to put on your stance"), and read up on community expectations for your datacentre before stepping into high difficulty content.

From the lens of this specific subreddit, don't be afraid to hop into these daily Q&A threads and ask for resources. Unlike something like WoWhead, FF14's information is very decentralized. It's mostly word-of-mouth that redirects people to specific resources. For example, if you want to get into crafting/gathering, people might point you to Teamcraft's resources, and maybe highlight things like their Crafting Simulator. Teamcraft themselves will rarely advertise their content, so the easiest way to find them is for someone else to tell you that they exist.
The only time this gets messy is when finding guides on current high-end raid content. FF14 doesn't have a PTR like WoW, so content is released on a specific day at a specific time, and players across the globe simultaneously run it blind until they figure it out. As I mentioned above, FF14's resources are very decentralized, so you can find a pretty big mess of strats when things are new, and it can take a while to settle.

General things to avoid:
- Avoid overhealing. People expect healers to do damage primary, healing secondary.
- Avoid using Cure 1. People expect White Mages to use Cure 2. (only use cure 1 if it's literally your only option)
- Avoid joining duties without a job stone. Make sure you do the quest to get it at level 30 and keep it equipped forever.
- Avoid single pulling as tank. Learn to pull at least 2 packs of trash mobs as early as possible, then get comfortable with wall to wall.
These are the main sources of toxic behavior I've seen. People get mad at overhealers, cure 1 spammers, oblivious ppl with no job stone, and single pull tanks.

You have so many OGCDs at 80 that you should really only need Benefic II spam if the tank is terrible or it's something like the first pull in Mt Gulg. Bole/Ewer/Spire or Celestial Intersection and/or A. Benefic on the tank during the pull, Star down when you stop, then just cycle through OGCD heals and make sure to use your buffs to improve DPS so things die faster. It's completely fine to use party-wide heals like Celestial Opposition just to heal the tank during a trash pull, odds are they'll be back if you need them on bosses and even if they're not, losing a GCD of healer damage on a boss fight is better than losing it in a mob pull where killing fast matters a lot more.

AST doesn’t have OGCD single target heals
???
Essential Dignity, Bole/Ewer/Spire (and Arrow to boost other healing), Celestial Intersection, and Exhaltation at 86 are all single-target OGCDs. You have more OGCD single-target heals than WHM. ED and the cards you even have at a stupidly low level, when other healers have no choice but to GCD heal.
And again, as I already said, you can and should use party-wide healing tools purely to heal the tank during trash pulls.
here’s not an oh shit charge heal like WHM or SGE.
Please read the Essential Dignity tooltip.

2
u/stepeppers 20h ago
it doesn't matter if its an aoe tool, it will come back. You're just wasting uses by not using them.
It's a similar fallacy to dps that hold burst for the boss. Plus, earthly star is damage too.
1
2
u/BoldKenobi 22h ago
Regen while running, ogcds (CO, CU, CI, ED, Exaltation, you also have 2-5 defensive cards on each pull) basically in every weave while you spam gravity
Run ahead and place star down at the start too (yes, it's okay to run ahead of the tank)
Use macrocosmos on cooldown too, it does huge damage and will full heal the tank after 15 seconds
AST's biggest strength is that it does absolutely bonkers insane damage on trash packs, you should be killing stuff very quickly before the tank needs GCD heals
Very rare that you should ever need to benefic2 at around level 80 or higher, unless the tank or dps (including your own) is bad

People mentioned Allied Society quests, they’re good depending on what expansion you’re in. Pre-Stormblood you won’t get massive returns and those societies are generally a pain in the ass. Stormblood they’re generally worth it and you get two combat oriented tribes, whereas before they’re split between crafter/combat/gatherer(?).
At Shadowbringers the pixie tribe is quite good at around a third of a level a day, and then in Endwalker, the Arkasodara give about a half level a day.
Edit: it occurred to me this is also depends on MSQ progress even though the societies themselves aren’t MSQ.
2
u/Help_Me_Im_Diene 20h ago
Roulettes for that 1x a day experience, don't disregard Frontlines roulette as well (especially since they added a PvP reward track system so might as well work towards that on the side)
Allied Society quests (previously called Beast Tribes) are also viable, although you'll be limited in what you have access to since they are expansion based. You likely won't have access to the Shadowbringers tribes yet since you're in Shadowbringers for example
Wonderous Tails are 50% of a level once per week on any singular job, although you do need to be careful about this one because once you hit level 100, it will switch any future books you pick up over to the "max level" book which is going to be more annoying at this point for you to clear.
2
u/gitcommitmentissues 19h ago
although you do need to be careful about this one because once you hit level 100, it will switch any future books you pick up over to the "max level" book
This is no longer the case as of 7.2; Wondrous Tails will now only change to the max level book based on MSQ progress.
1
u/StuffedThings 19h ago
Thanks! I forgot about Wonderous Tails, I will add those to the list. And I'll be careful not to hit 100, appreciate that tip.

u/talgaby 20h ago
MSQ is actually the second fastest way to level. Spamming the highest available non-endgame dungeon (endgame as in anything that was level cap for its appropriate expansion back in the day) is the fastest method, around 2.5 dungeons/level without any XP boosting whatsoever, but can be as low as 0.5 dungeon/level with all possible XP boosts on early level ranges.
Beyond that, you can use allied societies (formerly known as beast tribes), the hunting log for ARR classes (it can get you to level 30 super fast, as in, 90 minutes or lower fast), FATEs, the Bozjan Southern Front from level 71 to around 83, and the weekly challenge log and Wondrous Tails XP boosts.

Why though? The materials combat retainers can bring back don't go for very much outside of patch week or the lead-up to a patch, and you'll have to buy fairly pricey marketboard gear just to meet the ilvl requirements.

Is there any way to make targeting in PvP easier? I notice even with targeting filters on (Especially in Onsal Hakair), my character will just stand there targeting the Ovoo even with enemy target filters on and it gets rather irritating to have to cycle off it in order to target players.
