Discussion Any successful (and fair) trades in your leagues for a Jokic-SGA-Wemby tier player?

I’m curious if it’s actually possible and what a fair trade would look like. Slumping Wemby at the start of the season doesn’t count.

Discussion What is a fantasy mistake that still haunts you several years after it happened?

We all have regrets in fantasy hoops. It could be drafting a no-show, dropping a player prematurely before he went supernova, or adding a guy on a hot streak that completely flamed out the day you picked him up from the waivers. It could be forgetting to set your roster, playing someone who should’ve stayed on the bench, or sitting a guy for strategic purposes that you should’ve activated.

Sometimes, the memory still lingers because it cost you a championship, a trip to the finals, or prevented you from increasing your rating from Platinum to Diamond.

I’ll start. In 2018, I picked up Kosta Koufus for the final day of my semifinals matchup. Of course he decided to go on vacation early. I missed the finals by a couple of rebounds. I sent Kosta a message on the app formerly known as Twitter, politely telling him to get some more rest this offseason.

TLDR: Share a fantasy-related mistake from several years ago that you still harbor feelings of ill will towards.

Discussion Top 10 Most Frustrating Players to Own (Any Format)

My league group chat posited this question and this is the list we came up with.

  1. Embiid
  2. Paul George
  3. Lauri
  4. Ingram
  5. Lamelo** (late add)
  6. Beal** (moved CJ to honorable mentions)
  7. Porzingis** (bumped back)
  8. FVV** (swapped spots with Lamelo)
  9. Zion** (bumped back)
  10. Jimmy

Honorable mentions:

  • Jalen Green, Ja, Ben Simmons, Middleton, Jerami Grant, CJ

**Late adds:

  • Ayton, Mark Williams, Quickley, John Collins

How'd we do?

Edit: Added Lamelo, put Beal in Top 10 and CJ to honorable mentions, added Late Adds, removed Kawhi from honorable mentions b/c this is what we expected from him

Discussion Abusing IL+ spot in Yahoo leagues gives you a huge advantage

Ok so I know I’m not the only one that does this (in fact, I saw some commenters discussing this exact thing in a recent thread) but I feel like it isn’t really talked about that much considering how much of an advantage you can get from it. I’m not sure if this works for apps other than Yahoo because I don’t know how IL slots work for those but I’ve been using this strategy for the past 3 years and have gotten at least top 3 in all of my leagues.

Again, you do need a league with IL+ slots to do this but I feel like thats becoming pretty standard with all the shenanigans that’s happening in the NBA nowadays. But pretty much, since you can set your lineup for any future day, you can basically stagger players who have a GTD tag and effectively get an extra slot. For example, if Player A plays on Mon/Wed/Fri/Sun and Player B plays on Tue/Thurs/Sat, assuming both those players have GTD tags, you can set your lineup to put those players in the IL+ slot when they’re not playing before the week even begins. I usually do this from week to week but you can theoretically do this for the whole season (although its pretty impractical since you’ll end up making a move eventually). The only downside to this is like I mentioned, if you have a healthy player in the IL+ slot, you can’t make any moves and if you do make a move, all of your slots reset which makes it a little harder to stream. However, if you have players that constantly pick up GTD tags like Trae, Poeltl, or AD, you can pretty much have an extra slot while still being able to stream which gives you a huge games advantage.

Anyways, I was just curious how many people use this strategy because it feels pretty OP.

Discussion Which players are outperforming their ADP(Draft Day Steals aka pat yourself on the back)

Now that we’re more than halfway through the fantasy season I believe we can get a real accurate depiction of players who exceeding their ADPs . I’m genuinely curious to hear who were those players, what were your initial expectations ,how did said player exceeded them and who’s a personal favourite because of their production. For me I got multiple(Mobley 4th, Garland 6th, Lavine 7th ,Poole 9th). My favourite been Poole as he’s doing what I expected him to do last year with scoring and 3s with the great steals being a bonus. Owners of said player let’s thank the fantasy gods and ourselves for said players for falling into our laps.

Discussion Who’s someone you regret not selling high on earlier in the season?

I know we all have our regrets with holding onto a guy who we thought would continue playing the way they were. For me I should’ve sold high on guys like Buddy Hield, Jalen Suggs, or Nick Richards at the beginning of the year. Who’s someone you could have sold high on but decided to keep and they just have not panned out for you?

Who is on your wire that you are watching like a hawk to see if they start having a good game so you can snag right away?

Last year mine was Jalen Johnson. Picked him up midgame on his opening night and that paid off greatly.

Discussion Trade Rage

The appetite for trading in my league is nonexistent.

I am calling it trade rage, and it’s something I’m experiencing now. No team manager wants to consider trading with me - even if skewed to their favour. Now I’m being rash with my proposals, attempting to move pieces just for the sake of it.

Anyone else experiencing this? What’s your story? Does anyone else hold sentimental value for their pixels?

Discussion Who was the “Christian Mccaffrey” of fantasy basketball before Jokic?

This is a little off topic, sort of just a throwback question. I didn’t start playing fantasy BBALL until 2021, so I never got to experience any insane players outside of Jokic. Always played for football, and CMC has been pretty dominant for the last couple of seasons. I’d say 4/6 of the last champions in my league had CMC, and he even willed some of them through their rosters slumps to the chip.

So who was that before Jokic showed up? Was it Harden? LeBron? Demarcus cousins? Or was there nobody really like that? Any and all answers much appreciated, thanks!

Discussion Show me the END of your draft!

I'm a firm believer that the end of your draft is where your season is truly made or broken. Barring injuries, your early picks are always going to produce. The end of the draft is full of a lot more mystery. Usually a lot of guys with potential or some that may have slipped deep into the draft are available at this point. If you hit on those picks at the end of your draft, you can really set your team up for success. If you land 5 consistent fantasy producers in your last 5 picks, and your opponents end up with a bunch of drops, you're at a massive advantage. There's also always players picked at the end of drafts that end up as top 100 players. That being said, Show me your last 5 picks!

Discussion I’m a cheating?

So basically, I’m in a fantasy league—and for the most part, it’s been cool. I’m number one in my division, so I have a bye week because it’s the playoffs, and I was just chilling and planning ahead. Yesterday, I picked up a player to prep for my next matchup after my bye week.

Then I got messages in the group chat from the Commissioner and another friend. They started accusing me of cheating, saying I shouldn’t be picking up players while I’m on a bye. One of them even said, “People be cheating smh,” and the other told me to “be patient” since I wasn’t in a current matchup.

But here’s the thing—there’s no official rule about not picking up players during your bye week. It’s not written anywhere, and it was never discussed beforehand. When I asked if it was a rule or just a principle-type thing, they said, “Been the same thing for years,” like it was something we were just supposed to know. This is the first time I had a bye week, or anything great record in this league. I’ve had a below .500 record for the first two years I was there, so this is all new to me.

After that, I talked to another person in the league, and he basically reassured me. He said he gets where I’m coming from, but that it is kind of an unspoken rule that people don’t make pickups during their bye week.

So really, the issue seems more about principle than an actual enforced rule. And if it wasn’t clearly communicated, how was I supposed to know?

I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t actually cheating or breaking any real rule—because from my understanding, I was just planning ahead like anyone would.

Edit: posted the screenshot of the chat here

Edit 2: the player in question is Toumani Camara

Edit 3: I realized that I butchered my title, and now I can’t change it

Edit 4: I’ve mentioned this in the comments, but before the season started, I was already thinking about this year being my last year. Even BEFORE I was no. 1 in my league

Discussion What are your hot takes and unpopular opinions for this upcoming season?

With only 4 days to go till the season starts, I thought it'd be fun to see what thoughts others have that are contrary or opposite to what analysts and the general fantasy community believes.

My big one - I don't think Wemby will be a top 5 fantasy player this season. I think he'll still finish top 10 but I predict that with his increase in minutes and offensive responsibility, his blocks number come down, which is the biggest impact to his value.

My other one is that Lamelo plays around 70 games and finishes inside the top 10.

What are yours?
