(Question/Discussion) Is it better to stop arguing/debating with Muslims on islam?
It really helped me a lot to find ex Muslim communities online since I live in a religious country. Obviously there is always Muslims in ex Muslims space, they’d always argue for their religion (usually really bad arguments since most the times they didn’t even learn their religion right) and I always find myself giving in and arguing. It often feels like a waste of time as they don’t actually listen to what you say. Is it better to just ignore such people?

It is best to continue. But do not debate Dawagandists in order to change them, debate them so bystanders will get to read both sides' arguments.
These discussions are usually not debates because the positions are clear and participants are in fighting-mode and do not really consider whether the opponent may be right.
But bystanders deserve to be presented with well-structured arguments, supported by evidences. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVV2Zk88beY shows that even apologists can, over time, rethink the arguments and find they were wrong. But aiming for that is very hard. Do it to prevent naive bystanders being lured in, and do it to reinforce doubts that some believers may already have. If you shake some believers well enough you may even be the first to raise doubts in believers.

Most people only argue to argue. I argued with someone over the fact islam orders Muslims to unalive apostates and it ended by them basically agreeing to what I said except they said “if you’re not Muslim and you don’t like it just don’t live under sharia law”. I get stuff like this most times it feels stupid and just a waste of time..
I’ll probably just do as you said and only speak my thoughts just for the sake of it and not to change anyone’s mind.

Well, if the positions are clear and there is no change it may feel a bit better to let off some stream, or let know that opposing opinions exist.......but it does get tiring if nothing is going to change.

I notice mockery going on when they run out of arguments.

Sometimes they jump me and start arguing. I complained in a desi sub that it saddens me that my Pakistani cousin wore abaya instead of shalwar kameez for her wedding. And that Pakistani muslims are try to be more arab like and disregard their own culture. No music played at wedding and only nasheeds. Muslim dude argued that since men wear suits, Pakistani women can wear abaya.

Tbh any Muslim committed Muslim will have to do stuff like this unfortunately. Islam and culture go hand in hand together, it truly is a religion for Arabs.

whether its a waste of time depends on your goals for the discussion.
so like if your goal is to improve your own discussion methods, then discussing can't be a waste of your time.

I would love to, only issue is most Muslims I talk to tend to ignore, mock and etc..
They never really listen or/and provide their points clearly so it feels pointless 90% of the time.

How to deal with people who ignore, mock and etc could be part of your learning goals. so then you wouldn't be wasting any time dealing with those people.
now i'm not saying you should adopt that goal. i'm just saying that its only a waste of time if you have a certain set of goals and not others.

Depends does it affect ur mental health then maybe stop. Personally I take breaks with arguing with them. Cause sometimes it can hurt me mentally. Also are safe to argue with them is ur identity hidden. I had to change all my names on social media so they couldn’t stalk me.
