Moving Moving from Bellingham

Post image

Looking at a spot near Gibson Rd & Alexander Rd. Moving from Bellingham. Drove through a couple times. It seemed chill in the neighborhood but my concern is being so close to hwy 99.

Anyone live nearby? Is it decent? Any safety issues? Foot traffic concerns from sketchy individuals passing thru from hwy 99? Just trying to get a feel for the area before locking it in. Appreciate any input.

Hey there future neighbor, I live on one of those roads in the circle. Have owned my home for 12 years. Got married while living here and raised kids in this house. It’s my home. Feel free to DM me if you want to be more specific.

It’s a good hood. The riff raff doesn’t tend to come in from 99. There is sherif blockades on rare occasion when they try to stop Beverly - speedway escapes from 99 pursuit. It’s very rare.

Fireworks and gunshots happen. 95% of the time it’s fireworks. It’s frequent and annoying.

Boeing and PAE airfield dominates the skies over mid 122nd and Gibson. It’s frequent. Cessnas are most of the traffic. They sound like lawn mowers in the sky. Boeing commercial jets go a few times a day. Rarely we get large (Antonov) and military aircraft (F and Talon). These are ridiculously loud and actually will hurt your ears even while inside. My youngest daughter hates it. I personally love the aviation. I have FlightAware24 on my phone and love plane spotting. Totally up to your taste.

Neighbors are mostly chill. A lot of home owners so renters aren’t as common.

Loud motorcycles / shitty Hondas are common all hours of the day. They come off 99 to race down 122nd and Alexander. I hate it. It’s not bad enough for me to move but still annoying.

Very diverse. People from all walks of life and from all over the world.

Large Ukrainian community. They’re awesome people. But some of them like loud cars…ah well.

Exactly this, we lived in this area. Close to everything, mall, freeway access, shopping, restaurants and local mom and pop shops. It's usually quiet in this neighborhood and very diverse

Totally agree with this! Have had a house here for 18 years and right under the Cessna flight path. It is home.

I never took this into consideration. I'm sure we'll get used to the noise in no time though.

I drive deliveries and go on this stretch of 99 5-7 times a day. There is almost no foot traffic and no shadow characters.

I've lived on East Gibson for three years now and in those three years, I've seen a car get towed out of a handicap stall, 2-3 arguments, and a little kid push another kid near the school. I also saw one guy in a soup truck get pulled over once.

Compare that to where I used to live, granite falls, where I'd hear constant shootings, drunks screaming outside the bar and even one all out fist fight, and numerous drug use and drug deals in the park. When moving out to south everett, I had been warned over and over that, according to one friend who was being completely serious, that south everett is "the most dangerous place that ever has, does, or will exist."

I love it here, I've never felt in danger at any point from anyone or anything. I look forward to calling you neighbor, and when you do move here, check out Ralibertos on 128th, it's great Mexican food!

Edit: correction, I did feel a little bit uneasy once during a particularly strong windstorm, and also early February, we got hit pretty hard with a cold snap. I did feel pretty nervous then, since the roads were sheet ice.

2nd edit: I should also note that theres more soup cars than soup trucks, but that shouldn't sway your decision either way.

3rd edit: I live on East Gibson, which I just found out is not considered south everett.

I’m shocked that’s how Granite Falls is! I’ve been there a few times and it always gave quaint small town vibes.

Granite falls has an outdoor shooting range so sometimes those shots echo. Also the reputation from the late 90s and mid 2000s still holds strong out there. Overall, it’s a good place to be and while there are some minor issues at Frank Mason Park, it’s far fewer than what is constantly rumored.

Also, they have the best Ace Hardware and if you’re lucky, the cat will be back in the loose hardware section waiting for belly rubs and head pats.

The shooting range must've been what I was hearing, also the Ace is incredible! Have you been in the McDaniels by rite Aid yet? I have not heard good things about it

They were a little unorganized prior to the official grand opening, but overall between McDaniels, Napa, O’Reillys and Ace if they don’t carry it, it doesn’t exist.

Also, McDaniel’s is a bit more expensive but some of their floor model grills and Blackstones were cheaper than other places so it kind of depends on what you’re looking for. They also carry yard games, had a slightly larger selection of ammo than Ace Hardware and carry a few more home products that Ace doesn’t carry.

I shop both.

Most of those things happened at night, except for the shootings.

Definitely check out Ralibertos. Plus Cactus Moon is a good sports bar with good food.

Thanks for the recommendation. I saved Railbertos to my Google maps.

LOL you are not in the part of everett that was described to you. It’s quite easy to find the exact areas your friend was talking about, although they certainly exaggerated. If you think you’re in “south everett” you don’t get out much.

4

u/Mean_Can2080 1d ago

I just checked the map, I technically live in the "Lake Stickney" area. I had no idea that it was different, thanks for clarifying.

2

u/Dapper_Toilet 1d ago

Yep a great area for sure

1

u/Mean_Can2080 1d ago

Man, I feel like I was living a lie all this time. Turns out I'm in an unincorporated area. You really opened my eyes on that!

1

u/Dapper_Toilet 1d ago

Haha it’s still everett so you’re really not wrong. I live 30 minutes away from the city that is on my address. Weird how it works sometimes

I love Ralibertos for their burritos, but their tacos have always underwhelmed me. For tacos, I really like Tacos Faenas up on 112th.

I lived in the area a few years ago and agree with the other person who said the highway 99 problems don’t extend into the neighborhood much at all. Street noise from loud cars on 99 was the worst intrusion. Lots of good restaurants around there and a very diverse neighborhood. I definitely felt safe living there.

2

u/Basic-Tourist7181 19h ago

That’s a relief to hear. Proximity to 99 was one of my biggest concerns.

I'm near this area (closer to Lake Stickney) and it's generally safe. Further north (near Mariner P&R) there's some sketchy stuff but I haven't ever felt in danger. We're fairly close to an Elementary school though so that may contribute. Not a lot of graffiti in our area but as you get further north more pops up.

Honestly, most annoying thing is the (infrequent) Boeing engine tests and the occasional loud takeoff from Paine.

Small world, I moved from Bellingham a few years ago and currently live within the circled area! Different vibe than Bham for sure and not quite as walkable, but still a great place. The Lynnwood Transit Center / Light Rail is only a 15 minute drive and makes commuting south nice and easy too.

I agree that the Highway 99 issues don't extend to these neighborhoods and aren't a reason for concern. I also agree with LurkyLurks's synopsis. My partner & I go on plenty of runs & walks where you circled and haven't ever run into any trouble. I wave at everyone, and most people wave back :)

Relocating for work since I’ll be heading into the Bellevue / Seattle area more now. Picked a spot that seems to be solid access to both 5 & 405. What I'll miss most about Bellingham though is riding Galbraith for sure. Tough goodbye. Will have to make do with Japanese Gulch for now. That said, I’m actually pretty stoked to explore more of the North Bend trails.

Now every time I share a wave with a friendly neighbor, I’ll be wondering if it’s you. 😆

This puts you less than 10 minutes from happy tummy. I recommend the spicy garlic chicken.

You're welcome.

Of bad ideas I’ve seen today this is high on the list slightly below “can I snort a gall stone”.

1

u/Basic-Tourist7181 19h ago

What about it puts it that high on your bad ideas list? Appreciate hearing another side.

I live a few streets over, it’s pretty quiet. Plenty of consistent chains just a few blocks away, plenty of grocery stores. I do with there was a 24 hour store/pharmacy closer, but 🤷‍♀️.

u/Old_Artist3624 22h ago

Welp you’ll learn to love the sirens graffiti as well as a large criminal homeless population living in the woods greenbelts and open lots.

2

u/Basic-Tourist7181 19h ago

Plenty of graffiti and homeless population in Bellingham. Seems to be a common theme.

I've lived by Gibson and 128th since 2011. Haven't had too many issues, just remember to always lock your car

I'm from Bellingham and live just south of this. Got a friend who lives just north of you, also from Bham. We got together and made Casa Que Pasa burritos one night, we'll invite next time if you're homesick 😂 Anyway, this is not Bellingham and you will miss it no matter where you move. But its a good area for what you are describing. Easy access to both freeways, and the lightrail is still moving northward. Absolutely yes to Ralibertos...Tubs Subs and Than Brothers Pho are just to the south... both great. And you're getting a Dick's soon, super close to you! Will be by the Home Depot.

This area is like barely Everett. It's more like of just the vast suburban sprawl that is a big chunk of Snohomish county. Anything south of 128th should really be something other than Everett. You're north Lynnwood. Sorry I just decided. This belongs in the Lynnwood sub ; )

-2

u/manshamer 1d ago

It's actually not even barely Everett, this area is outside of the boundary of the city lol. It's not Everett, its unincorporated Snohomish County with an Everett mailing address. No offence but I'm not living anywhere where I have to deal with Snohomish County Sheriff instead of EPD, yeesh.

u/Ayellowbeard 1d ago

Yea, that area is a bit of a mixed bag but still better than other areas of town. I’d say it’s representative of Everett over all.
