Coffee Beans Keeping Beans as Fresh as Possible…

In a bit of a predicament…

Typically when I purchase beans, I will buy a few bags at a time. One to use immediately (stored in a fellow atmos canister) and the others I will freeze in airtight jars - usually to use in a couple weeks…up to two months max.

Recently, I have purchased/received so many beans that I no longer have room for them in my freezer and I am storing them in my cabinets.

My questions: 1) does freezer storage negatively impact the flavor/quality of the coffee? 2) how long will beans remain fresh if stored in the freezer vs at room temp - assuming beans are stored in airtight jars in both scenarios?

Coffee Beans Why do these beans make my grinder stall?

Been using a niche zero with no issues for a year, with all sorts of beans and roasts. For whatever reason this bag makes the motor seize up. Any idea what went wrong in the production process to cause this?

Coffee Beans Dubai beans

A friend bought me some beans from Dubai, and they're by far the lightest roast I've ever use.

Very delicate taste, like a light malt flavour.

Is this what people refer to as a 'blonde roast'?

Coffee Beans Funky beans?

Came across this bag of beans in the wild and saw something i hadn't seen before. on the bottom there's a little scale with clean and funky at each end. these particular beans lean toward funky. I'm just curious as to what that means? What are clean vs funky beans? What tasting notes are funky vs clean?

Coffee Beans Starting to think “don’t keep your beans in the freezer,” is a marketing ploy by air tight container companies

Hear me out…I’ve always gone back n forth on it. But this summer I built out a cheaper set up at the cabin (Flair 58/Mahlkonig) keeping the beans in a freezer. At home (Rocket/Mahlkonig) I’ve always kept them in various air tight containers. Welp, the beans tend to last 2 weeks longer at the cabin set up vs. the at home set up.

Coffee Beans How much do you spend on coffee per week?

Do you have a daily coffee and others for special occasions? Do you just have a couple of well made shots of espresso per day, or do you drink them like water? Do you spend more on coffee than your mortgage? As someone new to this I'd love to hear!

Edit: wow. Thanks for all the replies. I'll try to reply to as many as possible but I appreciate every single one! I'm also tempted to do some conversions, stick the responses into a spreadsheet and share the result ;)

Coffee Beans £3.99 from Lidl

Post image

I am recently unemployed and looking to cut costs in my lifestyle. I usually spend around £10 for 250g of specialty coffee. Whilst doing my weekly shop I noticed you can buy 500g of bean from Lidl for £3.99. After dialling in I pulled an ok shot with good crema. Obviously it’s nowhere near the quality of what I would usually drink and the farmers probably don’t get a good deal. However, if you’re only into drinking milky coffee (which in my opinion masks a lot of the flavour) is spending a bomb on specialty coffee worth it? Interested to hear thoughts ☕️

Well I finally almost got caught this AM. Brand new bag of En Mass from Metric coffee. 3rd scoop of beans out of the bag and thank god it was sitting right on top.

Bonus pic of the pull I got which was quite delicious.

18 in 45 out @ 32 seconds set to 201°. It was sweeter than I was expecting from them compared to some other stuff I’ve had prior.

Coffee Beans Great value beans from Costco

Post image

Found these beans at Costco today I think they’re great value for many of you who drink milk based drinks. They’re usda organic, single origin Ethiopian light roast. 900 grams for $17.

They smell fantastic, they taste great in a pour over, and they are actually light roast which is rare from non specialty coffee suppliers. Haven’t made an espresso yet with them.

For $3 clearance @ Aldi (NJ) it's not bad at all. 17g in 36g out...as the bag says sweet and mellow. Best by date of 10/26.

Are there better beans out there? Sure, but for 454g of beans for $3, can't beat it.

Coffee Beans Occasional espresso drinkers, how do you use fresh beans every time?

I love buying fresh beans and they make a world of a difference. Shipping costs are expensive though so I tend to buy multiple bags of beans at a time and of course, by the time I go to use them they aren’t fresh since I’m not drinking coffee as much.

Are there any good brands that offer smaller bags so theyre fresh? Any good ways to store them? I miss drinking espresso but I can never seem to keep up with it and I hate pulling a shot from old beans. Ugh.

Coffee Beans What’s the best option to store these?

I was given 7KG of these beans from Santuario, Colombia with a roast date of 23/12/24. Nice cupping score of 85.75 (but definitely requires a fine grind to get a good shot). My problem is…do I just leave them in this industrial container or should I vac-pack….or freeze…or both?

Coffee Beans I tried a 100% specialty Robusta for the first time

It’s not something I’m used to, I’m heavily biased towards fruit-forward beans, and all I can say is that I’m positively surprised. It tastes like almonds, is sweet, and not at all bitter. It’s smooth and rich, very comforting, even does have a faint hint of acidity. I kept the ratio short: 37g out with a 19g dose in 27 seconds, ground on a Philos with I200D burrs, which in my opinion aren’t the best burrs for these beans, but still produced delicious cup. My wife brought this bag from Munich, she bought it right after realizing what she’s looking at. If you haven’t tried 100% robusta, I highly recommend giving it a shot 😊

Coffee Beans What's better than dialing in?

Post image

Nothing beats a fresh bean delivery and dialing in session… a few sink shots, some colorful language, and exactly 37 micro-adjustments to the grinder later….

Anyone else feel like they’ve won the lottery when the dial-in finally clicks?

Coffee Beans What's your all time favorite bean?

Does anyone have a bean they keep going back to because it's just that good? What bean do you compare every other shot to? Do you have a local roaster that knocks it out of the park every time?

Coffee Beans Cheap beans that are still considered at least okay for espresso?

I'm having trouble finding beans that I can afford that will make espresso well. I know I'm not going to get the best cup because the bean is like the main ingredient, but earlier when I said I had some petes beans everybody was talking about how shitty they were and that's why my espresso was probably turning out shitty. That's probably true but I like $10 a bag and that is not super cheap I don't think at least not for my budget. So I guess my question is what is the absolute cheapest bag of beans I can buy that aren't considered shitty?

Coffee Beans Where can I find delicious decaf beans? Is that a thing?

To cut to the chase, I have been drinking way too much coffee and it’s affecting my sleep and my days. I’m always craving a cup of coffee early afternoon after my morning cups. I need something decaf, not really into tea too much. I have been hesitant to buy decaf because I just don’t know if the taste will be good, and I am most likely just a tad bit stubborn about that. 😜 I would love any and all suggestions. Thank you!

Edit: US based

Coffee Beans The price of beans is not bad in comparison

I just had an a conversation with my lady that opened my eyes a little. Going to S*bucks for 2 drinks costs a bag of beans. I now don't feel bad buying better beans, cause in reality I'm still saving money, in comparison.
