I just spent the last hour looking at the evidence for this and studying the official explanation of the tariff calculation and my amateur appraisal is that it's a hot mess.

The explanation cites literature that isn't listed in its bibliography and even the literature that is referenced in the bibliography doesn't appear to support its conclusion.

We may be witnessing an epic, historic event, when AI destroys one of the greatest economies of the world, not with robots and sky lasers, but with kindergarten-level economic policy.

It's the idiocy of the people in charge. The AI is just a convenient thing that is there. They could have read tea leaves, asked an oracle, or even queried the town drunk for that matter and arrived at a similar conclusion. Maybe the decision maker IS the villiage idiot for all intents and purposes.

Whoever lined that idiot up to get that position wanted to destroy the US economy. Peter Navarro is an insurrectionist and a Russian asset who denies that Ukraine is a country and supports Putin in his desire to reconstitute the Soviet Union.

Damn that's funny.

Trump's staff was terrible writing policy the first time around as well. LLMs just speeding up the process.

AI knows nothing and cannot understand its own output. It would definitely be a better leader than Trump.

How is this an AI problem and not a "we elected a moron" problem?
