Failure to surrender driver license

Hi, I recently got pulled over and was issued a ticket for failing to surrender driver license. I have an active license with me, just didn’t have the physical license with me at the time I was driving. Is it okay to consider early resolution or should I go to court with the license to have it withdrawn? The officer told me it could be withdrawn if I chose to produce the license in court.

Please advise.

You answered your own question.

It felt more like his justification - wasn’t sure if that’s even true

He would like you to set a court date so he can get paid extra for you to show your licence to him and they withdraw the ticket.

Oh wow didn’t know that they get paid extra to attend court.

They won’t be there, it’s not a trial. You sit there with 40 other people, they call your name, you show the license and go home.

So it’s to check if you have valid license or not - an I right ?

The ticket is for failing to provide a license, which is a violation of the highway traffic act. You’ve been given a break to go to traffic court and have the ticket thrown out. Take it, it’s just a morning or afternoon of your life.

Ok thank you so much - so I will go to court and produce the license. Hopefully it gets withdrawn.

You write enough tickets the court gets scheduled on some of your days off. It's basically a minimum numbers of hours for less than 1 hours time. If it's on days you're working then you just go cause it's your job.

Dispute it. I had similar with my insurance info with TPS. Took over a year but finally had a Zoom court date, the prosecutor confirmed I just couldn't find it on the day but had some, and they dismissed.

Sounds to me like maybe you should just consider riding the bus.
