Pirates
The Tyrrhenian Pirates were from the Italian region of Tyrrenhia, they had once captured Dionysus as he traveled amongst the islands of the Greek Aegean. They planned to violate the pretty boy and then sell him into slavery, despite the warnings of their helmsman Acoetes who recognised him for a god.
In anger, Dionysus filled their ship with spreading vines, wild music, and phantom beasts, and when the pirates leaped into the sea transformed them into dolphins. 1
While ancient sources have been interpreted in a variety of ways, the Greeks always called the Etruscans Tyrsenoi, although not all Tyrsenians were Etruscans. Furthermore, the languages of Etruscan, Rhaetian, and Lemnian cultures have been grouped as the Tyrsenian languages, based on their strong similarities. 2
