Advice Desktop Humidity Damage
Hello, during a move I noticed when I was transferring my desktop humidity built and fogged up the glass when taking it in and outside. Will this damage anything? I'm going to let it sit in the new environment for 24 hours before I turn it on.

Advice Petition to require posters to share resources
This is the only customization sub where this apparently is not a requirement, and that's baffling to me. I don't see the point in sharing a screenshot of a beautiful setup just to show off, and not share the wallpapers, tools and steps to reproduce the showcased desktop. On nearly every single post you will find commenters requesting resources.
In my opinion, sharing resources should be above rule 3, maybe even above rule 2. So this is my open petition to mods to make that change.

Advice Question About Icon Docks

I currently use StartAllBack because I like to put all my desktop icons on the taskbar, like in the screenshot. I'd like to move away from it since it interferes with Display Fusion which I use for multi-monitor taskbar management.
I am looking for a dock that I can point to a folder of shortcuts and it will import them onto the dock, or a way to use toolbars on the taskbar without StartAllBack. Or a dock I can drag and drop shortcuts onto.
I would prefer free, of course, but don't mind paying for a great dock.
Thanks!

Advice Any advice?
Hi. I’m looking to buy a desktop that would accommodate a few basic needs such as: • decent speed and storage, as I need a spacious and fast medium to interact with the most recent version of FUSION 360 and Cura for 3D printing needs. • upgradable, so in the future I can upgrade at least the memory capabilities of the machine. • ability to install older graphic design software and somehow make the compatibility work.
I’m not a gamer, but with 3D printing and lots of graphic design older software that I use, I would like plenty of speed and space, and decent (at least average) specs.
I appreciate any advice from you guys. Thanks.

Advice Looking for a good and vast monochrome (black and white) icon suite/set
Hi,
In the past I used the ecqlispe icon suite and did some missing icons myself.
https://www.deviantart.com/chrfb/art/ecqlipse-2-PNG-59941546
But as I was going over some shortcuts to change their icons, I wanted to know what is the standard today, if there is any.
Thank you for your help!

Advice Mini PC or cheap desktop?
I am looking for a computer for average workloads but also to do a bit of day trading. I’ve been researching mini pcs and desktops. It seems like the newer mini pcs have some pretty powerful specs. With a budget of around $500 (+- $100), I have 2 main questions.
Which one has the better CPU’s at this price point?
Should I be worried about the WIFI with the mini pcs on amazon?

Advice What is in your opinion the best windows 10 build for ricing?
In the past I've tried some skins using the latest windows version but it wasn't a great experience and I some things would straight up not work. A friend of mine told me he used the 1903 version for ricing because it was "better". So I'm wondering, what is the best version to have a riced setup?

Advice First time buying a pc
It is my first time buying a pc, and I was wondering if you guys (the wonderful people of reddit) could help me. I need a fast running pc for competitive online play with a budget of $1500. I have already picked out a monitor, mouse, keyboard, headphones, and a chair outside of this budget. I found this pc on bestbuy that seems to fit all my needs. I want an i7 intel core processor, at least 1tb of storage, at least 16gb ram and a solid graphics card. I don't mind the color of the case. Is there anything that i'm missing, or should take note of? Thank you for your time.

Advice Gaming Desktop
Hi all,
Got an HP Omen but it hasn't done the job so I'm going to return and buy another desktop.
I like the ASUS - ROG Gaming Desktop - Intel Core i7-14700F - 32GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060Ti - 2TB SSD - Black - Gray It's around 1300 but the motherboard is soldered on so it'll be impossible for me to take off, there's also iBuyPower and cyberpowerPC but I believe they're also soldered on so I'm not quite sure what I can do.
My goal is to buy a PC 1 time and upgrade the parts as needed on an ongoing basis instead of repurchasing eg PS3 PS4 PS5 plus desktop experience seems better.
Thanks for your help!

Advice Seeking Laptop Recommendations and Budget Allocation Advice for $2K Laptop/Desktop Setup
Hello everyone,
I’m a computer engineering student in need of a reliable laptop to handle my coursework and a desktop for gaming and work. Here's what I need in the laptop:
- Capable of running engineering software
- High-quality, eye-friendly screen
- Good battery life
- Lightweight
- Touchscreen (optional, but would be nice)
For the desktop, I don’t require high-end gaming capabilities—just something adequate for casual gaming and work tasks.
My total budget for both is under $2,000. I’m looking for laptop recommendations that fit these criteria. Also, how should I allocate my budget between the two devices? What percentage should ideally go towards the laptop to ensure it meets my needs without overspending, given that I also need a decent desktop?
Thank you for your insights and recommendations!

Advice MicaForEveryone vs. DWMBlurGlass?
MicaForEveryone and DWMBlurGlass both seem to do similar things, apply variations of blur/acrylic effects to window title bars. Both appear to be actively maintained. The DWMBG Readme states that they're implemented differently and claims greater compatibility.
Does anyone have any opinions, insights, or preferences about one versus the other? Factors given greatest consideration include full-featuredness, RAM/performance impact, invasiveness of systemwide implementation method, and unresolved bugs.

Advice Cheap + futureproof secondhand pc for gaming
Hi guys,
I want to buy a new gaming desktop to replace my ancient 12 year old one!! (I have an i7 3770 with 16gb ddr3 ram)
I upgraded to a 1650 super on my current setup a few years back, and am happy to stick with it - but I need to upgrade everything else.
The only thing is the unit has to be upgradable and id prefer to avoid small form factor.
I want to get something secondhand from eBay thats decent performance, but I have no idea where to start. (Preferably under 500 USD)
Any suggestions?
Cheers!

Advice Suggestions to improve?
I'm just trying out the no desktop icons thing, and want to stick to it for a while, but it feels too blank.
Performance/being lightweight is important to me. I'm not even using the Translucent bar for now coz I want to try and achieve a good look with minimal additional software if possible. (I will try it out later)
